Component Deals & Selection / Re: Spider mounted power meter advice
« on: October 28, 2022, 01:36:01 PM »
P2M is really good. Very stable in my experience.

Don't get Xcadey. They have a disproportionate number of failures for the few PM spiders they manage to sell. Even the batch allocated to Elilee wasn't free from trouble.

Thanks, as always, for the insight, SW.  That is convenient, as it means no waiting

Where are you ordering the ELILEE from?

I am just in communication with them directly.   I am picking up a couple things to see if I want to stock it in the shop

Hey guys, may I missed it. Is the seatpost available for 7x9mm saddles? Have some carbon AliExpress in my workshop and would like to use em

Yep, the seatpost comes with oval rails by default.  Not sure if VB has a round rail option  anyways

Gonna add to this list.
Has anyone tried the Power2Max power meter?

I am going to be trying out the ELILEE XXE carbon crankset /power meter combo.
They are out of Sigeyi,  XCadey is 15 days out, but they have Power2Max in stock

After The Ride / Re: What is everyone's favorite Carbon fiber weave?
« on: October 10, 2022, 07:43:29 PM »
The problem is I like the xweave, the 12k twill,  and the angled 3k twill...

In that case, of the ones you like, my vote goes to x-weave.
Has a nice "edgy" look, that the tradition weaves lack

I just discovered the  3k twill at 30° that elite wheels has. I am having a hard time picking between that, the 12k twills, and the x weave. I am leaning x weave because I am a bigger riders. and its supposed to be stronger.  the twirly-ness of the 3k twill at 30° is just fun.  I need to make a choice very soon... mmm

The finish (3K, 12K, etc) is just a veneer, and does not affect the overall strength of the rim.
I wouldn't stress over it much, and just pick the finish that tickles your fancy

I think since they're strictly 1x the thumb shifter is not present on the left shifter.

I mean, I couldn’t see it on the right (I could be missing it…)

There's a bunch of news hiding in what looks like plain sight in Ltwoo's updated catalogue:

http://www.ltwoo.com/en/col.jsp?id=175

On the MTB side, there's a new 'T' series of shifters/derailleurs with clutch rear derailleurs. These are across the range, going from 8-13 speed. There's also the semi-electronic shifters as has already been shown.

For gravel, there's the new shifter shape available in 1x12, with brake calipers (as has been leaked previously). There's also a new rear derailleur with a clutch that comes over from the MTB line, but has been redesigned to take a barrel adjuster which is across the range from 9-12 speed. All other components remain the same.

On the road, the new shifters are available in a 2x12 version, with aluminium or carbon blades.

No separate brake caliper listed so I assume it's the same as the gravel one. No other new road components, and the new lever shape is only seen on the 2x12 hydraulic content, everything else remains the same.

Interesting.   I notice the lack of thumb up-shifting on the gravel set (unless I am missing it). Contrasting to that is the oversized thumb lever on the RX shifters.
I wonder what the shifting action will be…unless anyone has insight

Anyone else having issues with bibs getting scuffed with the bare carbon models with cut outs? My EC90s both seem have scuffed a few of my bibs (this is prior to them both cracking and tearing up bibs of course!). Looking for a replacement in the <100g range

https://a.aliexpress.com/_mPxQcO8

So far so good with this one. Sub-90g. No sharp edges. no cracks.
I wish it were a bit narrower, but it doesn’t bother me now.
About 1,500km on it so far

Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: Tubeless Wheel Plugs.

Yea, tubeless plugs do exist, but probably not these.
One vague auto-translated review suggested they worked with tubeless but, you know, it was vague. And auto-translated.

Claim is that it is lighter than rim tape, but the difference either way must be inconsequential.

Extra points of potential failure could mean a messy experiment...

I love the idea of UST rims. The wheel builder I work with, less so. Lol

Thanks for input all

Anyone use these? Silicone plugs instead of rim tape
Are they any good?

https://a.aliexpress.com/_mssGPni

I'm pretty adept at taping rims, but world rather not if I don't have to.
Apparently good up to 400PSI and reusable

I don't like this as it appears to be scientific but their are a lot of uncontrolled factors.  Like human reaction, the lack of exact timing, exact pressure put on the breaks,  even the how hydrated he is could influence weight. or How hot the rotors started off between stops.  maybe even how much he trusted the brakes to pull on them.

To accurately test them with repeatability and to eliminate factors.  You would need to make a rig to test them. spin them up to an exact speed, and pull on them an exact amount. and do it hundreds of times. then average out that data. after removing any thing that more than 5% of medium number.

then we are talking about science.

Agree, but if you find someone who’s willing to go through all that for the clicks, let me know.
No one in the industry is going to do it (this industry thrives on marketing cherry-picked data and biased studies). So, all that’s left really are highly subjective user experience and uncontrolled experiments…

On the Elite wheels,  is there a steel free gun body available?

I do not believe so.
I will ask them about whether they are thinking about adding a biteguard.
Doesn’t really add weight, and just one of those finishing touches that makes existence on this earth a little more pleasant

Thank you very much!!!

What caliper and disc rotor do you have.
I am looking for an alternative for my 105 caliper  and old type xtr rotor.

I am using the JuinTech GT.  It’s cable actuated hydraulic.
The rotors are just IIIPRO.  They sell a number of designs, 6 bolt and center lock.  Floating, finned, and Ultralight.  Nothing too fancy, but I’ve found them inexpensive and reliable

Hi,
Did you find or make some pics for me?  8)

Sorry! Totally forgot!
One set of photos is the Drive 45mm disc (not the gravel version) with 28mm Schwalbe Pro One TLE (tubeless) @ 70PSI. Please excuse my janky calipers.
Tire width = 29.5mm
Rim width = 28.5mm

The other is the Drive 50mm rim.  Tire is 28mm Michelin Power Road Tubeless @ 70PSI
The rim version of the wheels is slightly wider on account of the brake track
Tire width = just shy of 30mm
Rim width = Just shy of 30mm
