Component Deals & Selection / Re: Magene P325 CS - First Impressions
« on: September 21, 2022, 12:48:53 PM »
Hello
Do you have any feedback on P325C reliability ?
Are you still happy with it ?
Nicoloc

So, first off a couple disclaimers:
1) I may be selling Magene stuff in the future which may bias me. I'll try to be as impartial as possible
2) this is my first power meter, so I have no prior experience to draw from
That being said...

Accuracy: I find the accuracy to be good, at least to itself. Meaning efforts of similar strain always produce consistent numbers.  Similar efforts between me and riders with similar profiles yield similar wattage.
It tends to be about 5% different than my Turbo trainer power.  Can't isolate the offender. It could just be because the power is being measured from 2 different spots (crank vs the trainer) and the differences are just transmission losses.
The P325CS is very sensitive. Meaning it picks up EVERYTHING. This is very apparent on poor roads. Of freewheeling and you got a bump, itll pick it up. Micro adjustments to keep a steady cadence on rough roads? It'll pick it up.  Heavier on one foot? It'll pick it up.
One one hand greater fidelity is a good thing.  On the other, unless you are on smooth roads, your 3! Second power will still jump around a lot.
If I were to be very critical, I would still have to say they are accurate enough to train with
The only way to check accuracy for sure would be for me to get a pair of Assiomas as well

Chainrings: I hear the earlier chainrings were flexy under power. I can't confirm, as I swapped them out for 1x.
The mounting system LOOKS like a SRAM 8-bolt AXS Mount, but it isn't. One of the splines/bumps of the SRAM AXS system is smaller than the rest, while they are all the same size for Magene.  Swapping rings requires : 1) being handy with a round file, 2) making sure the new rings don't obstruct the charging ports.
Passquest does make Magene compatible rings now, but only for 1X. They might be other manufacturers doing this too. Not sure.

Charging/Battery life: charging is done using magnetic connectors - one for each crank. Super easy, would be nice if one of the connectors were reversed. Easy to display, harder to explain, but for the connectors to fit, one need to be upside down (due to the opposite directions of the cranks). By no means a deal breaker.
I have 5,200km on my 168, and o have charged the cranks maybe 10 times? And that was just out of habit.  I've never run them dry, nor have I ever seen them low on battery.

Thats about it!  They have served me well, and have been totally hassle free so far.
Let me know if this helps!

A quick report on my experience withe the Elitewheels Drive 40D.
  • received mid of June
  • since then only around 500km
  • using them tubeless with the Vittoria Corsa Speed G2.0 TLR 25mm

In general the wheels feel great. Very responsive and stiff. I enjoy riding them. However for comparision I do not have another carbon wheel set, only my main aluminium training wheel set (which is a bit less then 300g heavier).

Now to two problems:
(1) I had quite some problems to get them working tubeless, always lost at least a bit of air. Air leaked out through the small hole on the side of the rim. Investigating further, the pre-installed rim tape did not 100% cover all of the spoke holes. Sealant was below the rim tape at some of the spoke holes and filling them. I exchanged the rim tape with 23mm wide tape, which is 1-2mm wider then the original one. Since then, no problems any more.
(2) During inspection of the rear wheel, I noticed that the ball bearings are already no longer running smoth. Affected is one or both of the bearings of the free wheel hub. Also the free wheel hub showing already some wear from the cassette, I decided to order another free wheel hub. Not quite cheap, did cost me around 80€ including shipping and customs duties. Good quality bearings would have been about 30-40€. So next time, if necessary, I will just replace the bearings...

Attached a picture of the old free hub where one can see the wear from the cassette.

1) that’s a shame. Air shouldn’t escape from factory-installed tape.  Sorry to hear that that happened to you.
2) have you contacted Elite about the bearings? Under no circumstances should there be problems with the bearings after only 500km.  If you have a bum bearing for some reason, it should be covered under warranty.
3)yea, those bite marks are perfectly normal for an alloy freehub without a bite guard

They're working on a new, lower priced design

Thanks for the quick response!
Contemplating these or just the cheap IIIPRO ones

I think Onirii might have something right up your alley

They've contracted Stirling Design (designer of Niu Aero) to come up with these disc rotors that'll come in 140/160/180/203mm sizes with 6-bolt or CL mounting options. These rotors are supposed to be paired with the upcoming Onirii M4 and M2 post mount brakes for MTB. I guess this is also formal proof that Onirii are indeed working on proper mineral oil hydraulic brakes, hopefully we'll see a flat mount version of that 4 piston M4 calliper.

So, I found myself in need of centerlock rotors (situation eliminates the possibility of using 6-bolt plays adapters)
Saw these on AliX under the Onirii store.  Apparently they have stopped producing them altogether.
They can still be found under the Cactus brand, but I wonder what the story is behind why Onirii stopped making them…

It looks like the EC90 one with another cut out and sone holes.
You gave the saddle weight, but to gamble on it we need your weight too  ;D

Thinking the exact same thing. To me it looks identical aside from the cut out in the back and  perforations

Any side by side comparison between Juin Tech GT-F and Onirii BR-05?

Unfortunately not, I ended up selling the BR-005s.
From what I hear, they are similar to the Juin Tech F1s, which are the single piston version of the GTs.
If that is the case, it is fair to say the GTs are better but more than twice the price. But I would go out on a limb though and say I doubt the GTs are twice as good.

The F1s and BR-005s will work just fine for almost any type of riding and rider you can throw at them

Ended up getting the Trust Fire mount.
Just could hack the vibration from the Rider Ace carbon mount.

So far I’m loving it.  No more springboard. The Garmin mount has a satisfying click. The action mount is located closer to the mounting bolts, reducing leverage caused by having a light or GoPro at the end of the mount.

The matching light comes with a mount lock, making it easy to remove to charge.  It’s only 430 lumens, but that’s fine for me.

I didn’t weigh it.  Is it heavier? Sure, but worth it.

I like the specs on those farsport wheel sets or the ican.

I have a rim brake set from fitlite that are 1310g for 50mm and bitex 20-24.  They are 26 19mm inner.  They have a disc brake version. Im just offering these as a set to compare. They list the dt35 at 1490g and they say the novatec 411 are 30g lighter.

I too, would go Farsports over ICAN if only because I suspect ICAN simply sources wheels externally just to sell along their frames.   Whereas Farsports specializes in wheel manufacturing

Current using this "OG-EVKIN HB-1300 Carbon Road Integrated Handlebar OD2 28.6/31.8mm " . It's really easy to cable and I really like it. Would be changing though as I found that the 100mm is too long for me, and I want to get a 70mm or 80mm but seems like the shortest for HB-1300 is 90mm.

Ah, for cables I just bought a file box of TRLREQ Teflon coated brake cables and shifter cables.
Cheap, I’ve got cables for years, and they do the job.

Hello Guys,
Can anyone show me how it looks 28mm tyres on 50D wheels especially en face (vittoria) Most pics at google are with 25mm
I have big dillema what to choose. G45 or D50
Did anyone test G45 and compare how it look stiffnes and comfort these set G45 vs D50?

I have a bike running 28s on 45D, 21mm internal and another running 28s on the 50V (19mm internal)
In both cases, inflated to about 70-75 psi, the tire width is pretty much in line with the rim width.

I’ll see if I can send you some pics

After The Ride / Re: Classified Powershift Wheels

I wonder how long until we see a lower cost, chinese competitor.

Probably not super soon? I haven’t seen any cheap Chinese IGHs yet that would lead me to believe something like this is on its way.

Now, a Chinese company using Classified hubs in their builds…

Totally unsourced conjecture, but there is speculation that the L-TWOO RX 2x12 shifters share the same Shimano 11s Road pull ratios with the R9 2x11 and GR9 1x11. This means that Shimano 11s Road RDs (incl. Tiagra 4700 10s) can potentially be turned into 12s with a pair of L-TWOO 12s shifters.

Sounds like Trace Velo’s next video  ;D

There's a new version of the SRX Pro rear derailleur in the works with improvements to the chain retention:

https://youtube.com/shorts/RsCjf7nYvsM?feature=share
That’s pretty cool. I was underwhelmed by the “clutch” on the first SRX
I wonder if they will fix the detent on the barrel adjuster too

Trying to get some feedbacks from guys here. I'm using ZRACE BR-005 and running cables internally, looking for something that will give me more braking power, and some youtube comments suggest going with Jag Pro Elite cables, seems to be somewhat on the expensive side. Anybody has suggestions for good Aliexpress brake cores (internal cables) that is smooth and cheap or at least not too expensive. Don't need brand names.

I am interested in the answer to this as well. I have searched high and low for good, compressionless, Chinese brake housing but to know avail.

I ended up settling for the Jagwire KEB-SL.  I suspect you might as well.
Although there is a store on AliX that sells a 10m length of KEB-SL for a reasonable discount.

I haven’t tried myself, but from all accounts, running regular brake housing internally to hybrid calipers will give you spongy braking.

Isn't it the right time to consider the tubeless option ?  8)

Im a tubeless convert, but appreciate that folks like running tubes for various reasons - higher pressure, ease of setup and swap, and good old “if it ain’t broke” mentality…
I got some of these for myself though to stuff in my jersey as backup!

Interesting. Hope the improved ergonomics make their way throughout the lineup too. Looks like an interesting new rear derailleur too (for 1x setups).

I hope the ergonomics improve so the up shift can be reached from the drops
