I ran across that 80mm the other day after posting as well.     I'm looking to get a dropper for my daughters bike.   I tested my 100mm dropper on her bike and it is too long by a couple inches so an 80mm *might* be right on the limit.

Does anyone have a good line on sub 100mm dropper posts?

I can locate a few high end ones meant for gravel bikes but haven’t found anything sub 100mm on AliExpress yet.

I've been looking for a similar thing and coming up pretty empty except for the Specialized SWAT box for my epic.    I guess it would fit my Gravel bike too.

I've considered getting a couple sheets of Kydex to try and form my own little box around a wood cutout that would utilize the lower bottle cage mounts and some velcro adhesive for placement.    I *could* use carbon fiber, but kydex is easier to work with (just add heat and form) and thin kydex often ends up a little more flexible so I could pop rivet a latch onto it to create a lid at the expense of having semi open seams riveted closed.

26er & 27.5 (650b) / Kids Size Chinese Carbon MTBs?

Anyone built one or have good ideas for sourcing frames, wheels and forks?

Couldn't find much information around here so figured a specific thread would be applicable.

Here's some frames/wheels I've come across recently;

DIY Carbon Bikes has 24/26" carbon rims, Hardtails and Full Suspension carbon frames;
https://www.diycarbonbikes.com/collections/junior-kids-mtb-parts

BXT on AliExpress has a 24" carbon hardtail;

There are a few cranksets available on AliExpress,

CRUZbike makes a crankset that looks promising, 127-140-150mm lengths and 25t-38t GXP chainring options to choose from.

Perhaps a Niner MCR RDO to split the difference?  The framesets were on sale for cheap recently with option of getting it with the fork or the rear shock.

A couple people have turned the Specialized S-Works Epic World Cup in gravel bikes....  https://youtu.be/rmniD7M9j8w?si=cDlMReyhqC7hCyC2

Maybe TanTan/Seraph's FM080 http://tantancycling.com/index.php?_m=mod_product&_a=view&p_id=1118

Interesting. What derailleur/shifter combo are you using? I've been riding exactly the same cassette but with Sroad branding since 2022 and both of my SLX and Deore derailleurs paired with GX shifter seems to "overshoot" on lowest gears. Whis causes chain rub on second gear and exceptionally bad downshifting from first gear. The derailleur hanger was trued and I also tried 2 new hangers with the same result.

I'm using the WheelTop EDS mtb system.

Do you have good shifting in 3 lowest gears?

Yes.  Everything shifting fine and running smoothly.

Do you have a link to the model you picked ?

Looks like the ones I ordered are longer available.  Shame, I really liked the zippers on the leg cuffs and just above the front chamois. (why isn't that a bigger thing?)

I wound up with some thermal bibs from YKYW that are nice, but not as comfy as my DeMarchi summer bibs.  The smallest size is still a tiny bit too big in the chamois/waist area.

also a fan of these bibs from Rion https://www.aliexpress.us/item/2251832726343269.html

I picked up some thermal bibs from Rion right at the beginning of the winter.

Quality wise they are really nice, but their smallest size is waaaay to big for me (165cm tall, 55.3kg) I gave them to a buddy who is about 175cm tall and 72kg and he loves them.

Just got a pair of Stone 110R2 chainrings delivered. These are the absolute-black style rings that are milled out on the outboard side. Really nice rings imo. They look shiny and tumbled to me. Favorite feature is that the female threads for the chainring bolts are integrated into the inner ring, not sure why (it’s not like there’s a clear advantage, maybe weight savings?) but it feels extra premium and lightweight.

I got a pair of these recently as well and was extremely impressed by them as well.  Very pretty and super true.

I had a KS dropper on my stumpy, bought the bike in 2018 it was on it.  Was still on it and working fine with zero maintenance when I sold the bike 2 months ago.

Figured it must be pretty good, so I got another one off AliExpress for my current MTB.

I should have a SPEDAO cassette in my hands today or tomorrow and be riding on it over the weekend.  I'm using a WheelTop EDS OX  derailleur.

http://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256804696644636.html

SPEDAO 12s cassette
Model : WSD-8012-1050-A1
10-50T
12 speed: 10-12-14-16-18-21-24-28-32-36-42-50T
Weight: approx. approximately 398g
12 speed compatible with XD freehubs

I've had good luck in the past with SunRace and Sunshine on my gravel and MTBs but wanted to try something different this time around and the SPEDAO seemed to have a decent amount of positives said about it around the internet.

UPDATE— I received the cassette and chain today.  Super scientific hand weighing against the SRAM XG1299 cassette it’s replacing makes  the 50g difference feel nonexistent.

Slapped the cassette on, cut the chain (I stripped and waxed the fancy looking lightweight hollow chain it arrived with) and spun it through the gears.  The WheelTop EDS didn’t miss a beat and needed no adjustments.  Went up and down the road, everything seems perfect.  Will hopefully get in a nice long ride this weekend if the weather holds out.

I worked in a motocross suspension shop for years so this is my take.

Suspension Servicing Schedules are wildly variable.  How many hours have been ridden?  What kind of conditions?  How fast or big is the person riding? etc etc.   And just like any mechanical thing,  Cheap oil and grease that is clean is better than expensive oil/grease that is dirty from 100 hours of use.

Anecdotal information; When I worked in the shop, I played with pure nitrogen vs pumping up suspension bladders with "regular" air on my personal bikes (a fun luxury of being "in the biz", I could fiddle with things A LOT more than the average person, for free!)  I couldn't tell a difference on the shock dynos or in regular riding.  Maybe a pro could? Maybe with an MTB being so light, and completely dependent on the air spring it would be noticeable.

"Regular" air is about 78% nitrogen so its theoretically 22% less heat stabile than nitrogen I guess?  I would assume the difference would be most noticeable once the suspension starts to get *HOT* and the normal air is expanding more than nitrogen would.  (Dirtbike suspension, especially the shock, gets REALLY HOT compared to *most* mtb stuff.

I never tested air vs nitrogen for long term for seal life because suspension service life is wildly variable and the outside world we use our bicycles and motorcycles isn't a lab environment.

Since the EDS has 13s capability, has anyone found many options for a 13speed cassette that ISN'T HG or Campi?     Specifically hoping to find something in 10-52 XD.

I sent have a couple messages to ZTTO about their HG 11-51 13s cassette asking if it will ever be available in XD but haven't heard back.

I don't need 13 speeds, my 12speed 10-52 xx1 cassette is just fine, but hey, if I have the "room" for 13, why not try it right?
