Component Deals & Selection / Short Dropper Posts (sub 100mm travel)
« on: April 27, 2024, 09:07:36 AM »
Does anyone have a good line on sub 100mm dropper posts?

I can locate a few high end ones meant for gravel bikes but haven’t found anything sub 100mm on AliExpress yet.

26er & 27.5 (650b) / Kids Size Chinese Carbon MTBs?
« on: April 16, 2024, 12:49:20 PM »
Anyone built one or have good ideas for sourcing frames, wheels and forks?

Couldn't find much information around here so figured a specific thread would be applicable.

Here's some frames/wheels I've come across recently;

DIY Carbon Bikes has 24/26" carbon rims, Hardtails and Full Suspension carbon frames;

BXT on AliExpress has a 24" carbon hardtail;

There are a few cranksets available on AliExpress,

CRUZbike makes a crankset that looks promising, 127-140-150mm lengths and 25t-38t GXP chainring options to choose from.

Component Deals & Selection / XD Drivers?
« on: December 12, 2023, 01:21:01 PM »
Its coming time to do some free-hub work on my 2019 Specialized Epic.  Are there any quicker engaging AliEx XD freehubs that will drop into the stock roval wheels with sram/formula hubs?   It uses a plain 3 pawl system.

Component Deals & Selection / Gearboxes
« on: September 27, 2023, 09:15:12 AM »
I stumbled across All-To Bike gearboxes from South Korea this morning while reading about Pinion's latest updates. (Pinion has finally gotten electronic triggers and brifters sorted!)

Anyways, This guy is trying to make lower cost gearboxes utilizing die-cast molding and several other lower cost alternative means of producing the parts compared to Pinion. I think I spied an anticipated cost of about 1/3rd of what Pinion charges. He's been very open about the development showing parts diagrams, assembly and current as well as proposed manufacturing methods.

26er & 27.5 (650b) / 27.5, full suspension XC "race" geometry options?
« on: January 23, 2023, 03:24:13 PM »
Has anyone seen any good options for a carbon or aluminum XC race frame that supports 27.5 wheels, 100-ishmm suspension travel front and rear?

Had the opportunity to ride a short track event this past weekend in back to back events on my 2014 Stumpjumper 27.5 w/ 150mm travel and my Kona Rove gravel bike and even with the handful of technical uphills and downhills I was quicker on the Kona although not as comfortable.   Confirmed my suspicions that the Stumpy (which was built for enduro racing by the original owner) is complete overkill for the majority of riding I do.   I'm not hucking any big jumps or barreling down long rocky hills.  Most of the trails around here are pretty smooth or so slow/techy that I don't use that much suspension.

Hoping to find something I can mount most of the existing bits onto.  The fork can be shortened,  I don't think the shocks yoke and length can be changed though.

I rode a more modern slack designed full suspension trail bike and really didn't like how it handled.  Super biased for descents and didn't give much confidence in the turns.  I think something sharper handling with less travel is the ticket for me.

I got tired of waiting on L-Twoo or Sensah to release their hydraulic groupset and ordered a take off Shimano 105 11 speed groupset today for a steal to mount on my gravel bike (Kona Rove).

Unfortunately, The crank arms on this groupset are 175mm and I prefer 165mm.   So I'll be selling off the crankset (Crankset: FSA Gossamer 386 (BB included), 175m crank length, 48/32T BCD, 110mm if anyone is interested)  When it arrives and looking for a BSA BB, 165mm 30-46t crankset.  My gravel bike is currently running an old square spindle set up and want to update that bit.

Anyone come across any good looking options on AliExpress lately?

Thanks in advance!

Cyclocross Frames, Wheels & Components / JH017 grevil/gravel frame set?
« on: August 18, 2022, 09:24:56 PM »
First time building a bike, been doing lots of research and have settled on all my components from information here and other places,  but I haven’t found any information about this frame.  I’m hoping someone here has some information.

It’s the JH017, I find it listed by probably half a dozen AliEx sellers for various prices and always one or two sets of the same photos and geometry diagrams.  It often comes up as Grevil, and it sure does look like one.

I’ve dug through the certification/license information of a few of the sellers and found that RIDE LOVE, the lowest listing price seller is licensed as Shenzhen City Qile Cool Technology Co. Ltd.

Here’s a couple photos of the frame/geometry sheet.

Wondering anyone has any experience with this frame or vendor or if I should just go to a more well known source.
