Hello, someone tested trasparent frame protective layer? something with good glue without paint damages when removed? thanks

I've had good luck with the generic clear helicopter tape for quick dirty protection.

If you want a fitted kit to really wrap a frame and make it pretty, I would spend real money for a kit that has been meticulously designed for your frame. The difference between a frame specific wrap kit and a generic one is huge.

I've broken chains but never a quick link of any brand or type. I reuse them without any second thought until I retire the chain.

If I break a quicklink tomorrow I'll be singing a different tune!

Yes, there is no storage space designed into the downtube. For forks, we will provide 2 versions. without bolt holes version fork is available.

Good callout about the fork. That will help I'm sure. Lots of people prefer the clean look.

Component Deals & Selection / Re: Magene l508 vs garmin radars
« on: April 16, 2024, 09:22:51 AM »
Even the garmin produces occasional falses (neg and pos). I believe after a lot of use that this is the result of their noise filtering. The most disconcerting behavior is when a car sits behind you at a consistent distance for some period of time. The radar on occasion will decide that it isn't a moving object and will stop reporting it. When the distance to the car changes it suddenly reappears.

I still prefer riding with radar whenever possible, but it isn't perfect. None of them are. I have no experience with the Magene units, but at this point I'm sure they are as good as the Garmin ones.

The lack of in-frame storage and the choice of an adventure style fork with a bunch of bolt holes are both big turnoffs.

The hunt continues.....

Thanks for the info!

I've tried multiple lightweight alternatives including the Rotor rings. I wasnt happy with the performance of any and ultimately went back to Shimano chainrings. The weight savings weren't worth the downsides.

I dont know about aliexpress versions, but the Evoc pro 3 is the best I've used. I'm not a fan of hip packs but if you need one, I would try to find one like this.

so I ordered a YKYWBIKE 3/4 bib during the Anniversary sale and it just arrived yesterday.

The quality is so good, especially the Elastic Interface chamois.

One thing I noticed though is that I possibly derped when I ordered it, not knowing it was for women ;D

But hey, it still fits great!

I have a couple ykyw bib shorts. They are good for the price and I use them on the trainer mostly. I don't find them to be as comfortable as my PI and PMCC bibs even though I bought the more expensive ykyw. But for $40 bucks each, these are ideal for trainer use and having some spare bibs around. The quality however is excellent IMO. Good materials, good stitching and construction, smooth seams, comfortable straps.

FWIW, I am 6' / 170lbs, long torso and short legs. YKYW AsianXL are a good fit. I could probably squeeze into an AsianL for more compression, but that might be too small.

Component Deals & Selection / AXS Batteries

I've tried the MRX battery but their capacity seems to degrade really quickly.

Any other viable alternatives to the super expensive SRAM batteries?

In case anyone is wondering about current prices...

CFR707 w/ Bar - $650
headset - $15
axles - $26
spacers $5
hangar - $8
shipping to US $190
paint $95

+ transaction fees on payment are approx 5%

All-in will be over $1k. Not bad but definitely more than I was expecting for an off-brand china frameset.

If you look at the Giant Revolt as a comparison to the 707 in a medium, the Reach is almost the same (3mm longer on the 707) but the Stack is lower on the 707 by about 11mm. I am 175 with roughly the same inseam and I think the 707 is a perfect fit in a Medium for me with a 90mm stem. I would even go for an 80mm, but not for the length, just to try the ride dynamics. I think if you ride a 56 Tarmac with a 90mm stem, then a 707 with a 90mm would be fine.

As far as cost is concerned. I think I paid about $1700 for both a 707 and 1056 painted and shipped to the UK during 2021 (so around C19 times when things were pricey). For me that was worth it for two decent bikes but you might disagree. I really like them both. The paint work is a bit 'meh' on the 1056 but I'm going to have that repainted anyway.

Thank you! Did you negotiate with them to get those prices or were they just the prices you were quoted? I assume ordering direct via email is the best option vs some secret AliX store?

Two questions:

1) The usual fit question. I ride a 56cm Tarmac w/ 90mm stem. I'm 182cm w/ 81cm inseam. Go ahead, laugh at my stretched-out torso and short little legs doing all the work! :) I think a 707 in Medium (56) is a good fit. Any thoughts based on experience with the 707?

2) Price: What have you all wound up paying for your 707s? With paint and shipping it suddenly doesn't seem so cheap.
