Nice looking bike! The white frame looks sweet!

Can you give more details on the frame not being perfect. You mention the rear brake mounts, and someone else has mentioned the cable holes.

Any more details on imperfections are appreciated as I am really thinking about picking up this frame. My steel hard just cracked, so I have a donor bike ready to go.

Is that fake woodgrain I see on the frame?  Like the wood side panel on cars?

If so, is it a decal or paint....looks really nice either way!

First off,  nice frame and color combo.

The Chris King looks like is has the deep insertion cups .... those are often times use when the headtube is ovalized.

Glad to see you resolved the issue with the frame.  At the end, all that matter is riding!

Are you using the same stem?

I recall that Truvativ came out with a one bolt stem.  I am no genius, but that just seemed pure idiocy when it is the bolt that creates the clamping force around the steerer tube.

Also, the star nut / headset cap bolt is just there to preload the headset.  After that, it serves no function.  I have seen too many "racer ricks" remove the cap and bolt to save a few grams.

I have to ask, and I am not trying to be a smart ass, but how does a threadless headset loosen up?  You are not talking about a threaded headset are you?

I always hear riders saying my headset loosened up, but they are running a threadless headset.  Then they proceed to blame the quality of the headset and that is why they paid over a $100 for so and so headset.

Isn't a threadless headset held in place by the stem?  You preload it with the top-cap, then tighten the stem bolts to hold everything snug.  If the headset is loose, in my experience it has been one of three things.  One, not enough preload.  Two, stem bolts not torqued correctly, or the lower end headsets that might not have the best tolerances between parts or have plastic parts take a couple of adjustments.

The headset is loosening stuff is something that happened occasionally with threaded headsets, so long ago since I worked on one of those, or some marketing ploy by big brand names.

In my opinion, a headset, especially these drop in ones, can be one of the places that you save money on to spend on other parts that are crucial for performance.

Helicopter Tape is what I plan to use on areas that might have frequent hits from rocks, pebbles and other trail debris.
