29er / Re: CS-057 Gravel Grinder Build
« on: April 07, 2016, 10:41:21 PM »
Never built a bike before, but I think I'm going to order a CS-057 from Peter.

Does anyone know how much brake cable and derailleur cable is required for the CS-057 build? This is probably going about it back asswards, but I want Peter to paint it a colour that matches the Pantone of a cable I saw, so I need to order the cable first.  :P

When ordering both of my frames from Peter who is now with XMcarbonspeed.com, I had them painted.  The work wasn't perfect but pretty good for what was charged.  Here are a few pics, the black areas are unpainted and both frames have a gloss topcoat:

Love the 2-tone. Did you send Peter a mock-up or did he send you a file for you to place the details on/digitize?

Hey folks, anybody have any experience in painting your carbon bike? Have you had it painted at source? What was your experience like? Did your supplier send a template to be decorated? What about painting it yourself? Adding decals, wraps, etc.

Share your experience and show us a pic of the finished project.

I know I'd like to add some personalization so please share your creative ideas.

Man...I'm really loving the look of that 041 though.

Guess that's why you went with the 057? I'm taking my time before pulling the trigger on a chiner as I can't afford to build a bike twice. How's your 057 holding out? I'm not very aggressive with my rides so they shouldn't go through the stresses that most out there put them through. I'm having a challenge deciding between the 041, MB01 or 057. I think the 057 is on sale.

If I knew the 041 would hold out, I'd go that way. Mind you...I'm a
little concerned about that seat bar/post issue that just came up. Hopefully it's nothing more than it not having been inserted deep enough.

29er / Dealing with BB Squeak

It may already be discussed in a thread on here so apologies if it is.

My brother advised me that the BB pressed systems can often lead to squeaking over time. Does anyone know if there is a solution or fix for this, either in advance or "post squeak"or is this a risk I have to take if the frame I am interested uses one of these systems?

Yikes! Sorry to hear.  :(  I was considering the 041...this is giving me 2nd thoughts.

Looking at the geometry, does the 10cm insert allow it to catch the top edge of the top tube, or are you just above it? Wondering if there was additional stress on the seat tube without the extra seat post/tube overlap length. Problem is, if you drop it further, you're compromising your riding position...and you were within the tolerance.

Please keep us posted.

OK - that gives me a feeling of comfort. I noticed you've only got a single gear on the crank in your wife's setup. Is this by choice or will it only accept a single.

Edit - I mean a single chainring. I'm on a very tight budget, so wondering if I can set up the 041 with a single chainring for now and move up to a triple and derailleur later.

Hi everyone! ...and thanks guys for starting this forum!

I've already received a ton of great information from it and will be checking through more threads to help me decide between a CS 041 or MB01 hardtail. You guys have been trailblazing for the noobs like me, and I really appreciate it!

Cheers!

I was considering this frame and am grateful for the feedback you have been providing. Never built a bike before so this is great! Sorry to hear about your issues with it though.  :(

Do you know if the problem your wife is having with the 041 frame rub is due to her height or physical build re: gender? I know it's not setup for your height, but I'm wondering if it would be an issue for you or a taller male?? It looks like a possible design flaw, but just wondering if it's tolerable for +5'10"

I saw CS has an MB01 listed and am now considering the MB01 vs the 041 if I am going to have the same issue

29er / MB01 - Any experience?
« on: March 09, 2016, 10:21:58 AM »
Hi guys - brand new to building and I want to build a 29er on a budget, slowly upgrading as I go. Was thinking about the 041 vs MB01.

Has anybody built an MB01 or has one? Any experiences with this frame? I know it's new, so there may not be a lot of info on it.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!
