29er / Re: Carbonda fm936 Thoughts

I just received the same answer. ETA for Germany is September. I'm very tempted, as this is finally a Geometry I was waiting for, and even XL is available.
The different weights light vs regular comes from "structure of the carbon layer is different from the raw material"

200 USD for 150g saved... What have you guys ordered? Regular weave/raw or lightweight?

Nice find. Can anyone share the price?

How do I get the China price? I only got a price from Taiwan, directly from Edge, and it is about 500USD more expensive than most FS frames from CN.

I'm in touch with the edge design guys as well. If they really do produce the XL version, then this is it for me, finally. And the S version for my godson. And yes, it looks a 100% like the American Eagle Fully, and close enough to the Scott Ransom. Tires not exactly Scott, but okayish with 29”*2.3” (Scott: 2.6) or 27.5”* 2.75” tire (Scott: 2.8).

I want to build a bike for a 11yo boy, 71cm legs (inseam), full suspension, Enduro/Trail. Weight is key, and a slack geometry. Can anyone recommend a 26" or 27,5" XS (14 or 15") frame, and carbon wheels maybe?
Thanks!

Component Deals & Selection / MTB Drop Bar like Salsa Woodchipper?
« on: December 08, 2018, 03:57:06 AM »
Has anyone stumbled upon a MTB Dropbar like the Salsa Woodchipper? The Woodchipper costs 215€ in carbon, that’s a lot. I couldn’t find a proper clone yet.

Hi,
I want to build a Salsa Fargo and found these 29er rims for 168 USD a pair:
https://m.de.aliexpress.com/item/32318352290.html?pid=808_0003_0101
They are about 100g heavier than the pricier model.
What do you think? Anyone knows the seller?
Best, Jens

29er / Re: Hongfu HF-FM058 w/ Scott Spark Geo

It appears that the FM058 has been rechristened as the "FM258." There's no difference between the two, and it is still possible to find the product page for the FM058 through a Google search. I sent Hongfu an email asking if the new frame was finally available in size 21", but the Lunar New Year shutdown is in full effect until the 26th of this month.

The geometry of FM258 is identical to 2017 FM058, but they changed the top tube to make it a 100% Scott Spark sibling. I like the new shape and if they finally create a 21" version, it may be the one for me. Even though I still don't understand the 2.2 tire clearance. At least make it 2.35"!

I'm still waiting for that 29er with tire clearance for 29*2.6" and a slacker head tube in XL ;)
But today, I would also buy the CS-FS27, in 29er spec.

Thanks Lisa, but we’re looking for lightweight full suspension frames, not cyclocross or 650b hardtail.

@everybody else: I got an answer from hongfu - no XL/21“ version either :((((

Absolutely  ;)
I wrote HF an email this morning with a couple of questions, boost and non-boost as well. Let’s see how they explain everything. I don’t think they use different main frames for 650b and 29, just the rear triangle.

So you think the different parameters in wheelbase or reach result from the wheel sizes? But why on earth is the 650b version *longer* than the 29er? TT and Chainstay are identical...

Me too. 120mm Fork could be a solution for more slack, BB drop is 50mm so this should still be fine, 20mm in the front will only result in 8-10mm reduced BB drop.
Which rear shock size would you choose - 165*38mm or 190*44mm? What's more common, are there pros and cons?
Did TanTan say you can use 27.5 and 29 on the same frame? They listed those as two different frame options on their site.

As the beautiful lcfs911 frame (which looks exactly like the Scott Spark, but with a different head tube angle and 10mm longer chainstays) is not available in XL
just got word from Yishuns sister company - no XL version available :(

I'm now looking at the Hongfu HF-FM058 which clones the Scott Spark geometry, but not it's looks:

What do you think? 435mm chain stays sounds great, weight (1750+/-40g) is really low (too low?). Is the 69° HT angle still fashionable in 2018? BB92 will make me buy yet another pair of cranks. Plus, it says 21" is available, but they only sell 15, 17 and 19" on aliexpress. I'll find out.

Yishunbike (auto-) replied on September 9, silence ever since. More responsiveness around elsewhere.
Still, I like the frame...

EDIT: just got word from Yishuns sister company - no XL version available :(
Too bad, I was really starting to fall in love with this frame.
