Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: LTwoo GRT on the way
« on: November 04, 2024, 09:24:22 PM »
I have a Poseidon and went ahead and threw the eGR on there. Honestly, worth it. Great frame and the groupset has handled more abuse than I would have expected it to. Fingers crossed it can handle a gravel race series coming up near me.

Redwood or X? I didn't want to spend the money for the eGR, but wanted to get Hydraulic brakes, and was looking at Jun Tech 4 pots, but that was the same price as the 12 speed groupset with Hydro.

I just had my chiner carbon seatpost crack on my first gravel ride with it this weekend. Fortunately I made it home. Makes me very hesitant to try a chiner carbon bar for gravel riding.

What model/brand?

I have an 057 Mtn Bike, with rigid fork, bar, seatpost (until I added a dropper) and rims. Have thrashed it on the same trails I ride Full sus or steel hardtail enduro bike and never had an issue.

Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / LTwoo GRT on the way
« on: November 04, 2024, 12:05:37 AM »
Found the LTwoo GRT 1x12 aluminum groupset (levers, mech, hydros) for under $200us delivered, so had to order it up for a not to distant future gravel bike. Maybe a Poseidon, or something else, shooting for a sub $1200 total cost.

Will update once I have it, then in the future once I find something to install it on.

Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Gravel bar options?

Just starting to look.

What Gravel bar options are out there in the Chiner world?

I was thinking about that option, but I figured I'd still need another wheel. I'm doing a 6 hour TT in November and winds could be an issue, so I don't want to be tied to only the 1 wheel. Or having to figure out how to get the disc cover off mid race....

I pulled the trigger on the LightCarbon with standard 36tooth hub. Also picking up a bar for a different bike. They are saying it can ship in 2 weeks, all total is $810 (including shipping) hopefully no taxes.

Didn't notice that spec, but was looking at the Wheel Builder weight, which has it at 1090 vs 1230 for the LightCarbon version.

Another spec is the LightBike max weight 331 vs 265. I'm not close to either, but that 265 would have been close for rider+bike a few months ago.

Hmmmm..

Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / TT Disc wheels which brand?
« on: August 27, 2024, 01:20:51 AM »
Shopping for a rear TT wheel and don't want to spend a billion $$ so looking at Chiner Carbon.

I'm no stranger to this market, have an 057 Rigid Mtb and LightBike rims on another bike.

I'm debating between LightBicycle Falcon Entry level for listed $738
https://www.lightbicycle.com/precision-c22d-entry-disc-brake-triathlon-tt-rear-disc-wheel.html

or LightCarbon with their hub for $529 or DT350 for $770
https://www.lightcarbon.com/lightcarbon-28mm-wide-super-aero-disc-brake-carbon-full-disc-wheel_p204.html

They look about the same,  but claimed weight is about 300grams more for LightCarbon.

But the CS-887 is 71 degrees head angle, while 057 is 69.5, also less reach, etc.

How is the stiffness between the Canyon and Carbonda?

How about some details about the frame?  Size, gloss or matte, ud or 3k etc, 142mm spacing?  Do they still do BSA (threaded) BB shells, and did you get that?

The main issue I have with my 057 (4 years old now, Dunno if it is still the same) is that it gets water in it.  As I hang my bike (mainly used for commuting) in the rack at work by the rear wheel, my head set often rusts out.  I also had issues with rear shifting - Dunno if there's metal in the internal guides that rusted, but it gradually got worse.  I now run the rear shift cable externally.

I also had shift issues, I have since drilled out and run full length cable housing.  I think there was a kink or something in the internal guide.

Awesome,  I love mine and recently made it even better by adding a dropper post.

I would firstly check if your hub is 142mm wide.
If not, maybe did forget a shim somewhere(eg: between two cassette cogs, or a hub end-cap, a shim inside the freewheel, etc. ) ?

This is a good axle a lot here are using: https://r2-bike.com/DT-SWISS-Thru-Axle-RW-RWS-12x142-mm-E-Thru
You can order a couple of nuts M12x1.5 too in case you loose one: https://r2-bike.com/SHIFT-UP-Nut-M12-for-Shimano-E-Thru-Thru-Axle-12-x-142-mm

This is the Axle I ordered and have used for 2 years now.

Yes, there's some slop.

When the China axle no longer held I replaced it with a DT Swiss.  I could not find a threaded hanger, but the DT Swiss but hold in place much better than the China one.

I should have done this a LONG time ago.  It's like a new bike.  So much more fun and lively on the descents with the seat dropped.  As a secondary, it seems to have resolved some noises from the saddle.  I had a 0 setback post before and my saddle was mounted about as far back as possible, causing creaking and popping.  The new post is a 25mm setback and the saddle now mounts in the center of the rails.

Some Pics on the trail.

And lastly a memorial for an 83 year old man that had gone missing last Sunday and was found by a hiker minutes before my ride on Thursday.
