Component Deals & Selection / Chainring Bolts - hex on both sides?
« on: January 30, 2024, 09:18:21 AM »
I 'hate' the old school chainring bolts that have the notches on the back side.  I know SRAM and some other brand new suppliers sell the one which accept a 5mm hex on one side and 6mm hex on the other (or maybe it is 4mm/5mm?).

Has anybody found an Aliexpress source for this style?  So far all I have found is from Stone:

But at $15 CAD I was thinking there might be a higher value reseller out there?

Thanks

Tim

Component Deals & Selection / Re: 3D Printed Saddles
« on: December 15, 2023, 06:09:08 AM »
Bringing this one back.

What is the current thoughts from folks who have had a few of the Ali 3D printed saddles on their bikes for a bit?  I see West Biking and they look nice, but too close to the 'brandname' models in pricing if you ask me.

What about the Ryet?  Which one do folks like?  I want a more narrow saddle (140-143) and Ryet seems to fit the bill there.  Is it actually more comfortable than some of the 'better' cheap Ali carbon models (that just have EVA foam)?

What about any of the other sub $100 models?

Hey all,

These 'seem' like a good deal..

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004854246082.html?ug_edm_item_id=1005004854246082&pdp_npi=2%40dis%21CAD%21C%24%20664.48%21C%24%20478.42%21%21%21%21%21%402102fe2216666503937658454d10e0%2112000030755397508%21edm&edm_click_module=item_detail&tracelog=rowan&rowan_id1=aeug_edm_24685_1_en_US_2022-10-24&rowan_msg_id=3279biz_add_wishlist:0:0_572534807$87d61e144d224e68ace9f230cbec93f6&ck=in_edm_other

30mm external, 38mm depth.

Anybody have any thoughts, experience with these?  I would probably use them for road tires (@ 28mm) and hope they still meet 105% rule (though may not depending on the tire I guess).

I'm really I guess on the hunt for 32mm-34mm external, reasonable depth (more like 40-50mm).. I don't care that much about weight.

Cheers,

Thanks ChrisB, seems to be a nice build.  I'm actually eyeing up the RF22 road frame:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003914708942.html?spm=a2g0o.store_pc_groupList.8148356.4.6bd619db6U2gGw&pdp_npi=2%40dis%21CAD%21C%24%20832.85%21C%24%20641.29%21%21%21%21%21%402100bb5116650939510426284e15c0%2112000030561943056%21sh

It says it has 38C tire clearance.. that is enough for me!  From the pictures may even handle 40C.

Does anybody know if this is a similar frame to other open molds?  Anybody else make this one?    Seems Chasing Wind is a decent supplier (per ChrisB's experience).  Anybody else rolled the dice on this one?

Cyclocross Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: Race oriented gravel frame?
« on: September 26, 2022, 12:27:17 PM »
For the Velobuild CX-002, how do they accomplish the internal routing?  I like the being able to supply my own stem/bar, but I also like the idea that I can run the lines through the front of the headset (keeping the lines out of the wind tucked under the stem).

Great, thanks!  Snacks, after having had the bike for a year can you sum up your thoughts/review?  Pros/cons?

Cheers

Hey all, I'm considering the 099 but currently have a gravel bike.  40c tires are likely all that is needed for the 'worst' gravel around here.  Does anybody think 650b with 40c will fit this frame?  Anybody tried?

Vendor Discussion & Reviews / Avian carbon wheels? Any experiences?
« on: January 27, 2022, 01:04:10 PM »
These caught my eye.. bit narrow for gravel wheels but considering them maybe for really light gravel (30C tires).  I wouldn't be hammering on them too much, and I'm 170 lb (78 kg).

Anybody have any experience with Avian?

Looking to get some cheap carbon rims (rims only) from aliexpress.  Considering these for my gravel bike:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003336914324.html?spm=a2g0s.8937460.0.0.73332e0egj77I1

Is "Light-Carbon" the same folks as the often talked about "Light Carbon" on this forum?  If it isn't, anybody have any experience with the above link supplier?

Thanks

Tim

Looking for folks who have had good experiences with a set of 5 or so shifter/der cables from aliexpress.  Rather not roll the dice on just any supplier.

Thanks,

Tim

Looking for the reliable (safe!?) carbon handlebar suppliers on aliexpress/alibbaba/ebay/etc.  Mainly looking for MTB bars (high rise if possible) but could throw one on the gravel bike for the right price.

Thanks!

Robin, how tall are you and did you go with medium (18) or large (20)?

What was the price if you don't mind me asking.

Thanks

Hey folks, while I patiently wait for some response to my request for quote from Carbonda.. can somebody confirm what type of BB the FM936 is?  Says BB92, but is this pressfit or BSA/threaded?

Is there an option for either?

Thanks,
