does anyone know of any solution similar to 12speed garage door opener?
I expected to have seen something in Ali by now, but no sign... I find the product really well thought, but being outside the US and with exchange rates the 'original' option is not feasible

Component Deals & Selection / Re: Magene l508 vs garmin radars

adding up to the conversation, I bought the Bryton Gardia R300L a few months ago, and it's been great! Occasional false positives, but no false negatives, it does the job pretty well. Especially considering I got it cheaper than the Magene, and of course than Garmin...
This is a case of updates saving the product, initial samples and reviews trashed Bryton since there were lots of false positives and negatives. But updates improved a lot the product, and the more recent reviews I saw before buying were already more positive - which gave me confidence to risk it

Long term report on my Cyclami electric pump. It was working great, until I had a stubborn leak in one of my tubeless tires and I might have overheated the unit. It still turns on, but now I don't feel any air blowing out of it. I tried dismantling it to see if it's something I can fix, but it uses very small torx screws and I don't have a screw driver that small.
have you tried contacting the store or the brand? Maybe there's some way to test it o fix it and they guide you through it.
my cyclami mini pump is working great still, it's a bit over 6 months of use, and although not a heavy use, it pumped a fair share of tires (more from buddies than my owns lol)
I drained the battery a few times, but never got it 'overheated', so not sure how to help you :/

Shimano 10 speed Tiagra 4700 and GRX 400 use same ratio as 11s so those components you can mix and match e.g. using GRX 400 RD with 105 R7000 shifters.
just to be 100% sure on that, it means I could use 105 shifters with Tiagra 4700 RD working for 11s?
I currently have the 4700 complete groupset on my bike, it's working well but it's already 4yrs old so I was thinking of an upgrade to 105 11s, and of course any part I could keep would be an interesting saving to have  ;D

Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: TPU vs Latex innertube
« on: March 16, 2024, 02:19:10 PM »
my repair kit for these tpu tubes, I got myself the tubolito repair kit (yes, i patch my non-tubolito tubes with it).
it came with glue and patches.
The glue tube lasts a lot of patching job (so many nail n glass shards incidents). I create patches from my old retired tpu tube cutouts. I saved the tubolito thicker patches for only large cuts.
patch success rate almost 100%.
So as repair kit on the go (ie long distance, bikepacking etc) the reparability n reusability is close to/same as butyl with 1/3 the space.
Never used latex, so i cant say for latex reparability
I heard about the tpu cutouts as patches, still have to test it, though.
but about the glue, you can get a common vinyl/pvc glue, it shoulld work with the tpu material. I have been using that and heard of other people having success too

TPU user here, almost a year that I've moved completely to chinese TPU (mainly RideNow and Thinkrider, but also tried Offbondage)

the rolling is for sure better than butyl, but I don't have experience with Latex so cannot compare them.
about puncture resistance, my impression is similar to Pat's above, I think the tire and the road conditions are the main factors. When changing from butyl to TPU I honestly didn't feel any change in punctures. In this 1yr, around 7.000km ridden, only 2 punctures in my TPU tubes

they're a bit more difficult to setup, especially with tight tires, but after you get the hang it's pretty ok
and of course, using as spare tubes is a no brainer, they take little to no space in your pocket/bag

what I think the main issues are:
- Reliability, the batches vary a lot and some tubes are better finished than others. I've had all brands fail on the valve stem to tube connection, small leaks that first just deflate over days but then start leaking more and more.
- Patching is more difficult and uncertain. I've used self-adhesive patches, and some worked well but others started leaking after some time. Seems the adhesive starts to fail, maybe temperature variation and stuff like that. I've seen some tips on using vinyl glue to patch, I bought it but still have to try
- Setup is tricky, since the tube is very thin it may be pressed between the tire and rim, and ends up blowing up. I've had this happen to me 2 times now, fortunately, I was standing still with my bike but was mid ride so got me a bit scarred. Upon investigation, it was my fault, it's important to check every bit after getting the tire seated, pushing it from side to side, so it doesn't 'bite' on the tube. As I mentioned, when you get the hang it's ok.

I've thought of going back to butyl after some of these valve stem fails, but honestly these TPU tubes on the '3 items for...' of Aliexpress are around 1/3 the price I'll pay for one butyl tube here in Brazil. So as long as the tpu tube don't fail me mid-ride (which is rare to happen) I'll continue using them

About brands, RideNow seems to be the best quality, especially after the last generations and improvements. Offbondage is also a very good option, their stem-tube connection is very nicely done and reinforced. Thinkrider has the best cost, and the alloy/plastic stem was a nice improvement, but it's still the one that failed the most with me so I'm a bit skeptic.

Of the Chinese open mold manufacturers, I only saw LightCarbon and Longteng.  Velobuild didn’t attend.  (And I didn’t see a presence from other Chinertown favorites like Elitewheels, Ltwoo, Winspace, Magene, etc.)  But I did get to see the LC017 and the LT266 in person, and got some intel on a new LT301 that will be released in a few months:
Nice one dude!! Especially finding a way to enter lol
Maybe create a new topic about the bike show as a whole, to share all your photos/videos and prompt discussion on different models? Since this one is focused on LCR017 but it seems you got info on dif frames like the 301 to be launched.

Does it work? Does it keep warm? I watched this video last month and the claims are pretty incredible
I have the sleeveless one from Darevie posted above, should be >2yrs by now... it's really good, the fabric is comfortable, and it's warm alright. I use even in some hotter rides because it helps keeping sweat away from the body, and avoids you being soaked.
also, even with that time and a lot of uses, it's still good, stretching/compression is still good too... very nice especially for the price
For rides down to like 5C I think it can handle well, below that I'd look for a 'closed' fabric which should be warmer

+1 on nickobec comment
I have 2 pairs of these G8 knockoffs, have mine cut to 42 (26cm) but it's pretty much the limit. You can even cut more, but then I believe the arch will be too much ahead even on the limit of positioning

either way, I think it's worth for the price, at least to try.
Both my pairs have 3yrs of use and are still going, the only issue I had is that the arches soften with time (like >1yr of use), but then I just get the upper number and keep on using it. Seems even the original one experience this and you need to get replacements after some years...

Folks, like Uno stem and Elita seatpost is there any no-brainer handlebar on Aliexpress?
Not looking for integrated, internal routing, flare or even Di2 holes. Just a road bar with flat top.
Tooseek have good products, and good service
https://toseek.aliexpress.com/store/912268096

Their upscale brand is Firespider
https://firespider.aliexpress.com/store/1100268111
With stiffer and lighter carbon
I'd say to take a look at Og-Evkin too, the parts are really good and well finished, the customer service is less than ideal but as long as you don't need anything it's all good
my handlebar and stem are from them and it's >3yrs going strong, no issues at all
it used to be a bit more expensive than Toseek, but I recently saw it on the sales products in the home page for pretty close cost, so worth taking a look :)

hi! A nice opportunity appeared for buying the P505 S1078 locally - the 8-bolt 107bcd one
the chainrings I found plenty options on Aliexpress, but I cannot find 8-bolt cranks
you guys have any suggestion or budget options for the cranks?

I'm not looking to upgrade my powermeter (currently I have a Magene P325cs set), but this P505 S1078 is cheap so I'm considering
but if I'll have to buy a sram crank for the 8-bolt, then it ends up being too expensive and not worth it

Component Deals & Selection / Re: 3D Printed Saddles
« on: February 29, 2024, 02:52:00 PM »
hmm
I have two Ryet 3D saddles, an Aircode (pro stealth) with 11mo and >6.000km on my road bike
and the same model you linked, on my mtb with ~30hrs on it

I've not experienced this kind of wear on the bib fabric, even riding long hours and moving/changing position when riding, especially on the mtb
so I'd suggest to look at stuff other than the saddle itself
maybe bikefit adjustment? too much movement on the saddle is usually some positioning adjustment, for example you start sliding down and have to constantly move your butt back
or the bib is a bit older and the fabric is not that much resistant anymore

beautiful bike!
I was gonna say it was the Ryet Aircode (pro stealth shape), I have the same one on my bike, end of march will be 1yr with it, it's comfortable and the quality is very nice, it's still same as new

fwiw, I have an Elite ENT pair with elite branded hubs (not sure the spec), and my previous was Superteam's with a Powerway R13. Both were loud out of the box, Elite's significantly more, but 1st maintenance adding some grease the sound lowered enough

The guy who killed his neighbour's dog and went to jail?
as soon as I got to know this history (through Jesse on the Nero Podcast) I blocked this aussie a**hole's channel. It's a shame, his videos have really good maintenance and assembly tips, especially on the 'cost-efficient' side of stuff

Component Deals & Selection / Re: Chinese cycling clothes
« on: February 27, 2024, 09:32:32 AM »
if they don't advertise it as an EI pad, there's no way it's legit...
supposedly, the EI pad is higher cost, manufacturers pay extra to have the brand associated with them, so why would they pay more but not take advantage of the EI name to sell more? For me it just doesn't make sense...

my logic to buying clothes from Ali is to stick to known brands and known stores, with dozens/hundreds of sales and feedback.
Otherwise, it's just risk-taking. I'm then accepting the risk that could be money lost when a product without any quality is delivered...
