29er / E-Bike Forum Section?
« on: September 16, 2020, 09:45:40 AM »
I've been going down the E-Bike rabbit hole lately and was wondering if there would be interest in adding a section to the forum? Not sure if there are any good direct from manufacturer bikes/parts available yet?

29er / Using the "new" button to go to unread posts within a thread.
« on: September 15, 2020, 02:05:14 PM »
Just thought I would point out a useful feature that some users may not realize exists. If you click on the orange "new" button next to the thread titles it will take you to the first unread post in that thread. A bookmark of sorts. Better than clicking through dozens of pages trying to figure out what post you last read.

Component Deals & Selection / Renthal Components
« on: April 22, 2020, 10:39:49 AM »
I just wanted to shout out Renthal for awesome customer service. I bought a pair of lock-on grips and one of the heads of the bolts stripped so I sent Renthal a quick email just to ask what size bolt that was in order to buy a new one. Well, they responded the same day asking for my address, and then overseas shipped me a few bolts with a handwritten note and some stickers at no charge. I was pleasantly surprised by how they went above and beyond for such a small ticket item and Renthal definitely has a new loyal customer. I just wanted to share as companies that really understand customer service are rare these days and deserve recognition.

29er / Suggestions on Arranging Forum Topics?
« on: April 21, 2020, 07:07:22 PM »
Hi all,

I was hoping some of you might take the time to help me decide how to best format this forum in terms of different sections and their topics of discussion.

I think the current arrangement could be improved upon. Things have changed quite a bit since this forum was set up and "plus" size tires have become more common to the point that many newer frames accommodate a wide range of sizes rather than making "plus" specific frames. The lines are getting blurred. So it doesn't really make sense to me to keep the current set up with a separate "29er" and "29 plus" section... there's just too much overlap now. It seems they might should be combined?

Here's the current set up:

29er
26er & 27.5 (650b)
29+ & 27+
Fat Bikes

Component Deals & Selection
After The Ride
Vendor Discussion & Reviews
Classifieds

Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components
Cyclocross Frames, Wheels & Components

Here's what I'm thinking of changing it to:

29er
27.5
Fat Bikes + 26er
MTB Component Selection

Road, Cyclocross, and Gravel
Road Component Selection

After The Ride
Vendor Reviews
Classifieds

I'd really appreciate some feedback from you all as I'd like to get it right this time to avoid having to change it again in the future. Maybe I should leave it as is as to not confuse people? I'm open to all opinions.

Thanks for reading.

29er / Chinese SC/AM831 Group Buy
« on: March 11, 2020, 12:20:16 AM »
This is all still in the early stages and the logistics may end up not working out but in an effort to keep the original thread on topic about the actual AM-831 frame we'll use this thread to keep track of who may be interested in a group buy. The vendor requested that we get a number for them to determine the price.

Original thread: http://chinertown.com/index.php/topic,2840.0.html

This is in no way at all binding but if you are interested, please just reply with "yes" and what size you would want.

Yes. Size Large.

Count -

S:25
M: 35
L: 26
XL: 8
Size not specified: 5 (users: sync1, Beuti, emu26, killBot801, ericchile)

Last user counted: rkeran

Total Count: 102

Notes from seller:

Quote
All-mountain AM831 frame rear shock is 210*55mm. Fork travel and frame travel, both 150mm. The diameter of the seat post is 31.6mm.

For this FM-AM831 is the new mold that Haideli cooperated with Miracle.
And the selling price would be totally the same, we are good partner.
Also the frame can be painted the color you like, can be choosen in our charts, or offered the pantone code.

Now the sample size 17" would be finished in one week. then arranged the testing. finally being produced and selling.
So it would can be shipped for 17" on the ending of the April.
The other size we would be arranged once all the testing passed and according the group buying quantites.

For the sample price is USD699/set.
The bulk price is USD499/set, MOQ 30sets.
For different shipping address added the shipping fee.

We always chosen China Post EMS by air, but if you need the tax included, special way, XDB or WXY aslo would be okay.
The latest details for the frame of picture, weight, testing, we would show it ASAP.

*The sizes of these frames are offset from the originals. For example XL in the original frame would be L in this frame, and so on.

After The Ride / Opinions on 25% Bike Tariffs?
« on: August 22, 2018, 09:45:14 AM »
Just received an email from bikes direct talking about the tariffs that will be directly and drastically affecting bike and bike component prices.

Regardless of your political views, how do you guys think these tariffs will affect the industry? Curious to hear opinions on the matter.

Really wishing I would've stocked up on chiner frames to resell now lol.

« on: December 17, 2017, 08:24:28 AM »
Alright guys, sorry for the delay, I'm actually on a beach in Mexico currently (first time out of the US - it's freaking beautiful!) so I didn't get a chance to make a reveal video like usual. I literally drew a name from an Astros baseball hat..

The winner is karstenhorn! Congrats man. Just email Peter at Carbon Speed and he will get you hooked up.

Thanks to all who participated, and like I said, sorry about the lackluster reveal. I hope you enjoy the wheels karsten!

29er / And The Winner of The 42mm Hookless Rims...
« on: June 21, 2015, 08:53:12 PM »
As always, an overly dramatic video to announce the winner:

Also as always, something doesn't quite work as planned and this time you can't really read the winning name when I pull it in for it's close-up, due to the lighting and neon paper.. So.. Congrats to cmh! Coincidentally, if I remember correctly, he's also a seasoned wheel builder, so that worked out well.

Thanks to all who participated, and congrats again to cmh! We'll be doing the next giveaway when the forum hits 10k posts - So hang around!

You may remember our previous giveaways where Patrick C won
the first one and turboenterprise won the second one..

Well, it's time for another one - Thanks to Carbon Speed
we'll be giving away another set of carbon rims!

After The Ride / Sorry about the spam!
« on: December 15, 2014, 06:19:30 PM »
Wow. They've been hitting us hard the past two days.

Just wanted to let you guys know we are actively trying to delete and ban the spammers while simultaneously looking for ways to slow them down. It got like this once before and we implemented some anti-spam measures that I thought had the problem under control.. guess not. But like I said.. we're working on it.

It kinda feels like having a roach infestation in your house, if that analogy makes sense to anyone lol
