After The Ride / Chinertown Down - Hacked by Niner Bikes!
« on: October 29, 2014, 02:17:28 PM »
Ok, not really   :D

But that just sounds so much cooler/dramatic than we had some hosting issues that lead to the forum being down for most of the day. Sorry about that, fellas! It's basically akin to a power outage - not much you can do but wait it out and listen to the provider's canned, very uninformative updates.

Just filling those in that may have been wondering!

« on: September 14, 2014, 08:38:36 PM »
Okay, Sorry for the delay. It was for good reason, I assure you..

I've been trying to hold out until I could get our pretty blonde assistant from last time, and the wheel. Well, no dice on either! So I had to come up with a last second back up plan and this is it.. I know.. I know.. it's just not the same lol.. I tried, trust me!

Congrats to the winner!

If you've been a Chinertown resident for any length of time, then you probably
remember our 1000th post giveaway

Where we gave away a free set of carbon rims
to the lucky winner Patrick C.

Now, for no apparent reason whatsoever.. we've decided to do another giveaway! As always,
special thanks to Iplay for sponsoring this whole thing!

As I stated in another thread, I've had a few guys asking that a chiner road section be added to the forum... So here she be.

I was researching the topic I came across this thread on the road bike forum: http://forums.roadbikereview.com/bikes-frames-forks/chinese-carbon-picture-thread-255186.html

and the very first post read:

Quote
I as many of us have gone the way of Chinese carbon and therefore like to look at other bikes of the same. I like to see what others have done with this blank canvas with their paint and builds. The only problem is that there are hundreds of pages in the normal Chinese carbon thread and you have to sort through so much to see what your looking for.

So, I figured might as well add a home for road chiners here at Chinertown. At first it will just be contained in one section/board but as it grows it can be expanded out just like the MTB section is now.

That said, nor myself or the other mods know jack about road chiners, so the only way this part of the forum will have a chance at thriving is if it is moderated by someone with a passion for road bikes, specifically for chiner road bikes and the sharing of information related to the topic. With that in mind, it seemed logical to add a mod specifically for this section of the forum.. If you're interested and fit the description, or know someone that is then please hit me up with a PM and perhaps we can work something out.

I will say that even though I'm not a road biker.. some of these road chiners are pretty awesome to look at. You can tell people have put lots of thought into their component selection and paint/graphics designs. Would love to see the section gain momentum simply to be able to watch more chiner builds develop.

Thanks for reading.

After The Ride / Chinertown Decals - Free If You Want 'Em
« on: July 22, 2014, 07:35:53 PM »
Finally got some decals printed up. Pretty happy with them overall for a first test run. Need to refine the design a bit, as it looks a whole lot different once it's printed up on vinyl.. Also, I just went for a more subtle look and left off the wording, as it was quite a bit cheaper, and like I said.. This was a bit of a test run.

The next batch I have made up will be the full logo with wording, and other improvements.

Either way.. I have 30 of these if anybody wants one, just shoot me a pm with the address and I'll snail mail it to ya - Or if you just want to wait for the final version, it should only be a couple of weeks before I have them.

Component Deals & Selection / BikeHubStore.com Hubs?
« on: July 15, 2014, 10:01:03 AM »
Anybody have a set and have anything to say about them? I've read mostly good things about them and at one point that's what I was going to use with my carbon wheelset.. but I ended up having a conversation with one of the more respected wheel builders that lurks on mtbr and he told me that for my weight (200 lbs) I should just avoid them alltogether. Since I ended up buying my Sun Ringle pre-built wheels anyway.. it didn't really matter, but now that I want to build up a carbon wheelset I'm back to looking for the right hubs again.

So far it's Dt Swiss 240s or a set of hubs from http://www.bikehubstore.com/

Opinions? Did I get bad info from the "expert" wheel builder (he may have been trying to sell some that he sold - not sure) or was he right and they should be avoided?

brmeyer135: I saw that you recommended them in the "Most Carbon'd Out" thread so looking forward to seeing if you have more input on the matter.

29er / And The Winner Is...
« on: July 13, 2014, 04:55:25 AM »
So, I was really trying to come up with a way to do this that would show that it was done in a 100% fair manner.. but in reality, it's pretty impossible to prove that on video.. You guys will just have to trust that it was done fairly - I assure you that it was.

That in mind, I just decided to have fun with it.

Happen to have access to this "wheel of fortune" that just so happen to have the exact number of slots on it that there were entries into the contest (which I thought was a pretty insane coincidence) - So I found myself a rather reluctant Vanna White, and put a Chinertown t-shirt on her and spun for a winner.. lol.

The timing of the video is a little off, and there are a few other things that I would have liked to improve upon by shooting the video about a hundred more times...  but for the sake of fairness, we had to settle for the first take - not to mention I barely convinced her to do one take  ;D  so there were no re-takes!

Here we go.. Congrats to the winner!

Okay, so one more day left to enter the rim giveaway contest! At midnight tomorrow night (central standard time) the contest thread will be locked and there will be no more entries..

In the meantime, there are a few members that posted in the thread and think that they are entered, but aren't. Would be a shame to miss out on having your name in there... ridiculously good odds of winning a pretty high value prize. Something like a 1 in 50 chance to win, I believe. Those kind of odds are usually strictly for winning your $2.00 back on a scratch-off lotto ticket, lol. So, I thought it only right to make a thread to point out to those specific members that they may have had a slight oversight, and need to adjust it in order to be eligible.

Here are the members and what they need to do:

brmeyer135 - No avatar uploaded.
Cebeas - Only 1 post and no avatar uploaded.
Vipassana - No avatar uploaded.
Frits777 - Didn't post the word "Enter" in the contest thread.
arrjay - No avatar uploaded.
leugene - Didn't post the word "Enter" in the contest thread.
Gliderboy - Only 1 post, and no avatar uploaded.
Ianitis - No avatar uploaded

You have slightly less than 24 hours.

Sorry to be such a "stickler" for the rules, but in order to maintain fairness to those that did enter correctly - All qualifications have to be met! Hope this post helps some of you out.. I'll re-post the rules for those that may have missed them somehow.. Good luck!

So, I've received a couple of messages from guys asking for there to be a Chinese carbon road bike section on the forum - I'm all for it, unfortunately, I have very little road bike knowledge. Was hoping someone could fill me in on a few things:

1. Is the Chinese carbon option becoming just as popular in the road bike world as it in the MTB world? If so, is there a forum/thread that is the equivalent to the chiner mtbr threads?

2. Any suggestions on how to arrange the boards in the road bike section? I mean, mtb is separated into "29er", 27.5", "Fat Bike", and "Components".. How would that work for road bikes? They all have the same sized wheels (I think) so it wouldn't be separated using that difference. All ears if anyone is willing to offer suggestions.

3. Anybody have any builds/bikes/frames to post? No sense in creating it if it won't be used.

That's about it, I guess, just wanted to open the topic for suggestions and to see if I could get filled in a bit.

Thanks, guys.

Sales & Classifieds / Anyone interested in something like this??

The idea for a buy, sell, and trade board was brought up by another forum member so I thought I'd see if there was additional interest?

Sales & Classifieds / Rules Thread
« on: June 05, 2014, 09:48:09 PM »
Rule #1:  The "Classifieds" section is fair game.. Vendors are more than welcome to post threads promoting their brand, frames, and components - But, if you're going to post in other areas of the forum in an attempt to get your sales thread more views (completely understandable and smart) then it needs to be an informative, and helpful post/thread. It needs to serve the community as priority #1 and promote your product as priority #2. Provide details of your products such as geometry measurements, manufacturing process, or just some example builds using said frames/components. Not only does this better serve the community, and keeps the forum free of clutter, but it also serves as better marketing for the seller/vendor. Win, win.
