Title: Searching for a budget wheelset i40 or greater 27.5
Post by: emu26 on October 20, 2020, 11:16:53 PM
OK, so I had a set of Sun Ringle Duroc 50's on order for a grand total of $535A, about $380USD, only to be told 4 days after paying for them that they were out of stock and it might be 2 months before they are back in stock.  I'm now on the hunt again for a pair of 27.5 wheels with an internal rim width of 40mm to 45mm, this is the recommended internal width by Maxxis for 2.8's and 3.0s

Does anyone have any recommendations in that budget range? Must be genuine boost hubs, not 142's or 135's and made to suit with spacers.

I have found these  https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32943634451.html?spm=2114.12010612.8148356.8.7d8c5257jhwaJG, considerably more than budgeted for but also about 400gm lighter. My concern is that 1, I can't find any reviews for Dair wheels other than those on their page and 2 it is my understanding that those Novatec hubs are convertible from 135mm through to 148mm. That means the hub flanges must be at the 135mm width which kind of defeats the whole purpose of having boost wheels.

So, any feedback on that manufacturer / reseller, any solid info on those Novatec hubs, any other recommendations, ideally around the $500USD mark.

Thanks in advance

Must be genuine boost hubs, not 142's or 135's and made to suit with spacers preferably 6 bolt and shimano 11s compatible

I would stay clear from Pilar spokes, or maybe just their alloy nipples that seize easily.
The extra cost for SAPIM spokes/nipple is about $30-50.
