Besides the 057, you could also look at the 106. i have a ip/fm 106 and its geo is the same as the 057 but with thinner seatstays for compliance. i have 3000 miles on mine and its seen gnar and wrecks...still perfect. i run a 120mm fork on it 68.5 head angle feels nice.

I have a IP-106 not a 062 but my frame can fit 2.4 tires easily.

Thanks for the long-term follow-up.  I really like the lines of the 106 frame, especially at the seatstay to seat post junction.  I would guess it is more robust than the 256.

I'm glad to hear the frame is serving you well.

Yea I like the lines too, its slightly curvy but not much. The seatstays are actually really interesting looking. From the side they appear very thin, but from the top they are very wide. Its an idea that they will add some compliance to the rear of the bike and I think for the most part they achieved that.

29er / Longterm Review of my FM/IP-106 29er
« on: November 25, 2015, 11:40:57 AM »
I bought this frame from Peter last August 2014, I had originally wanted to get the 057 Frame but there was going to be a long wait so I went with the 106 frame without really looking too much into it. I got the 18" frame, they make it in 16,18, and 20. Oddly there is not a Geometry chart for the 18" that shows the HT angle. The HT for the 16" is 69* and for the 20" its 71*. I went and got an angle finder and measured my frame, what I got was a HT = 69.5* w/ 506mm a/c Reba 100mm and ST = 72.5*. Now, I have put 1,958 miles on this frame to date and I do 65% commuting and 35% trail on this particular frame. Its actually a really stiff but compliant ride, the bike can handle more than you think it can. I am actually going to be dropping a 120mm fork onto this frame bringing the HT to 68.5* which should be absolutely perfect for a Trail Hardtail. I had originally put more of an XC build onto the frame, but after riding it and seeing that its more capable than originally expected im going to build it more AM, i think the frame can take it easily.

This bike actually has a geometry really similar to a Pivot LES hardtail. The 106 Frame has a 12.1" BB, it really is able to rail corners it took me by suprise as well, its a very stiff frame it can handle 2-3' drops easily. Overall Im just really impressed with this frame and cant wait to drop a 120mm fork on it to see how it feels. I dont see a ton of information on this particular frame so I figured I would chime in. Here are a couple pics, dont feel like listing my whole build list too much work, lol.

Beautiful car you have there. My setup was very reliable actually. I put 30k on the car when it was turboed. I love to tinker though and I did ask my own work so I could fix any issue that could arise. I ran the 1/4 mile in 11.5 @ 131mph. Was a rocketship.

Well I post a lot on MTBR and Ive been a member on here for a while but dont post a lot so here goes....

My name is Andy, I live in KY. We dont have massive downhills around here but we have nice flow trail type stuff. There is also a dirt jump park around here that I take my SC Blur TR out to. I built a XMI IP-106 last year and its been one hell of a bike. Probably tied ( with the Santa Cruz TR ) for the best bike I have ever owned. Love this website its really chill up in here. haha

After The Ride / Re: Won't be riding for a while.

Another update.  10 days after being allowed to bear weight on my right leg, I am now able to get around without any crutches.  The ankle and knee are getting stronger but there is considerable ache and swelling at the ankle joint.  However, the PA said there would be and to just keep walking on the leg as much as possible.

I have been able to get back to my office a few times rather than working from home as I have been during my recovery.  Nice to get out of the house and see my co-workers again.

Temps were nice yesterday, 58 degrees and sunny.  I've been driving my Honda S2000 more now that the leg has healed enough that I can use the brakes hard if I had too.  Even did a little four wheel drifting as I make a fast left turn the other day, this car is so much fun to drive.

The Atlanta weather is expected to take a turn for the worse for the next few days so I won't be driving much.  However, if the weather is nice again next weekend, I think I will be able to take my IP-036 for a spin around the neighborhood.  I was surprised the tires still are holding air after 9 weeks of not riding.  However, my rear tire on my IP-056 has gone flat, probably need to replenish the tire sealant and take it for a spin as well.  I purchased a set of platform pedals to make riding a little easier, clipless pedals and and stiff ankle probably are not a good combo.

In addition to my physical therapy two times a week, I've been going to the local fitness center and riding the stationary bike, doing leg lifts, knee curls, and ankle lifts on the machines.  All should help me recover faster.

My ankle has some nice looking scars on it, something fun to talk about when somebody asks me what happened.

Glad that youre doing better CD. So how about that S2000....AP1 or AP2? I used to have a 2003 Ap1 w/ a turbo kit that I fabbed up for it. Had a GT3076R on it, @ 21psi ( race gas ) on stock internals I made 501whp and 365 ft/lb. That car would lay black strips down even in 3rd gear when rolling into boost. Ahhhh....now my bikes are my toys as I have two kids and drive an effin Toyota Corolla. LOL

Take all the manufacturer weights and add them all together then add another 250g because they always lowball actual weights.

I say to hell with snow and I ride all year long...

Hell yes, 1000x yes. Your tires will never be cleaner than after a snow ride. Just remember to lube the chain!

If it's cold enough, go find a frozen lake, that can be a ton of fun as well.  Just yesterday: Riding on Lake Galena

(sorry CD ;) )

haha, thats effin awesome!! Youre so right about my tires....they are about as clean as when I first got them. Conti's sidewalls show a lot of scrapes get stained with mud...after my snow ride they look so clean....loving that. I love that video man, thats the way to go. Gotta keep that pace up because once you start slowing down it can be all bad...haha. I always keep chain lube with me in my bag, along with tubes, tools, etc. Any more people like to ride in snow?

Oh yea and sorry CD. lol

29er / Re: Chainstay badly hit during a ride
« on: February 18, 2015, 05:02:38 PM »
Andy, I extracted a white sharp debris(not sure what it was), that perforated the frame at the bottom of the hit.

May be the rest of the hit is due to the initial shock.
Or because I didn't see it immediately and finished my bumpy ride.

I will try the DIY option first(because I like to try things, and it is cheaper).
There are plenty of videos explaining how to do it, and it seems definitely doable.
Tomorrow, a package from http://carbonmods.co.uk will arrive home.

And if I mess up things, I'll leave it to a "composite material expert", that will happily do it for... 190€

I did my Wednesday ride, back on a 26" FS (the Rush). What a sad ride it was :-/

The good thing is it doesnt look like it went all the way through the chainstay. I bet if you repair it and then just flat black it itll be fine. Granted I dont know much about carbon layup but its just like working with fiberglass I would imagine. Lay down a layer, epoxy it, lay another, epoxy it.

Yeah, original calculations should have had it at 18.5, but almost every part was overweight, especially the wheels and frame.   I know I could get a full pound out of the wheels, but Im 220, so a light wheel set would scare me....

I'm not complaining about the weight, as I know it could be lighter, but many of the uber light parts carry a rider weight limit that Ill never be under, so a 19.5lb bike for a 220lb rider is pretty damn good in my mind, especially when I still go ride with my "All-Mtn" friends on this bike.

Yes, that weight is very respectable.

So do you go riding with friends who have AM rigs and you have a rigid fork, or am I just confused?  I've been so bored lately since I can't ride.  My apologies to everyone if it seems like all I do is hang out on Chinertown.

I say to hell with snow and I ride all year long...

Im pretty impressed that it took that hard of a hit and didnt do more damage. The layup is pretty thick there pretty impressed with chiner frames.

I just got done with my ip-106 build I have a thread in here on it. The 106 Frame is the same bike as the Focus raven 1.0. Its got interesting designs on the rear stays...they flare out but are thin to make the rear get some compliance. I really like the frame mine was finished well.

The ZEE Groupset...a great looking one IMO nobody uses the ZEE
