Yes, the frame is still available, and this is a newer fixed version. Took a little while to get it as Peter waited for the production run of the newer version to come through.

Funny, I rented a 29er TallBoy carbon when I was in Pisgah a couple years back and came away as unimpressed with a high end suspension bike as I've ever been. Giant Trance the next day was much more enjoyable. Maybe something amiss with the rental bike but came from a good shop and looked to be in excellent condition.

I didn't build the new one, we decided to go another route. If you're looking for a hardtail for your wife, I'm actually selling the brand new replacement 041 - size medium, with all the bits that went with it, seatpost, seat clamp, handlebars, extra frame fittings from the previous bike, axle, two derailleur hangers, etc.

Brand new, completely unused white X-Fusion suspension fork with uncut steerer. 120mm travel (adjustable) and will work with 26" or 27.5/650b tires. 29er won't fit, I checked. That probably means that 27+ tires won't fit either.

Would make an excellent match with the RockShox rear shock I'm also selling if you were planning on building up a CS-136 full suspension 650b bike.

Perfect foundation for a 29+ build - 42mm hookless rims from Peter at XM CarbonSpeed. Really nice rims, the finish is top notch, and they're quite light. Got them and had big plans for them but at this point it's not likely that I am going to use them for anything so am looking to unload them.

Got a CS-041, had some issues with it, got a warranty replacement and decided to go another way in the meantime. So now I have a brand new warranty replacement CS-041 frame in size medium, still in the shipping box. I also have extras - seatpost, seat clamp, two derailleur hangers, carbon handlebars, rear axle, extra frame fittings (cable stops, etc) to go with it. Everything together was nearly $800 with shipping. Everything is matte UD finish. Peter has confirmed that the remainder of the 2 year warranty on the frame will be honored, as well, and the issue I had has been addressed. If you're looking at a size medium 29er hardtail, it's ready to go and could be shipped quickly. You could have a brand new frame with the extras much faster than getting it from China.

Can post photos if there is interest.

I endorse this... I used road pedals and shoes for quite some time, but when I was doing some commuting, I switched to MTB pedals for the walkability... and discovered I personally can't tell any difference once I'm in the pedals, and I can get into the MTB pedals so much faster than any of the roadies I ride with. This is a big benefit on any ride that involves a bunch of stopping and starting. I recently tried road pedals again, and after two rides pulled them off, sold them, and I'm on nothing but MTB pedals now.

Double check your source, 473mm for a 100mm fork sounds like a 26er fork. Everything I saw on the REBA 29er fork puts it around 506mm. MTBR reference

I'd have to take a look back at the races to confirm, but pretty sure Julien used that softtail BMC for only one race before he went to - and stuck with - a full suspension bike.

Not that what the pros ride translates directly into what we should ride, of course, but I thought that was interesting.

The Trek softtails I believe are being used more extensively, and their 'cross bikes also have the same technology. Sven Nys finished his career on one of those last year.

Also don't forget that carbon wheels aren't your only option, the Stan's NoTubes Crest Mk3 are listed in the 360g range, which is the same listed weight as the lightest Chiner carbon rims and quite a bit less.
