Title: IP-036 Build for my Girlfriend
Post by: trimansam on April 29, 2016, 10:44:40 AM
Currently working with Paul from XMIplay. ordered the 17.5" BSA IP-036 frame last night, so fingers crossed, it will be here in two weeks before our mountain bike trip to new mexico. I'm shopping around still for the cheapest XT 1x11 groupset, and suggestions would be helpful. didn't want to go carbon wheels due to some issues that I've read about with them, also found some tubeless aluminum ones on ebay for the same price around the same weight ~1650 grams for the set. Paid extra for the frame paint, hopefully it'll look good. Any fork suggestions, aside from the Fox 32 float 29 100mm travel? best shock for this frame?? Will post a picture as soon as it arrives. if all goes well, i'll probably build myself one too.

Do yourself a favour and check this before a long trip to New Mexico http://chinertown.com/index.php/topic,906.0.html

Regarding fork, I found a few very good ebay offers on Manitou, I bought a Tower Pro(120 mm) for only 200$ and to be honest I do have Fox 32 on my on my Hardtail and I do like the Manitou better.

Thanks Karstenhorn, I'll definitely check that when it arrives. Let me know if you've found a good fix for the short bushing bolt. With forks I've got the fox float 32 on my bike and know how that feels, but never ridden the manitou or a rochshox maybe i'll have to check out their prices.

Thanks carbonara that looks pretty good on bike24.com, I'll just need to make sure I don't pay too much to get it to the US.

On the bike24 website make sure you have the proper country selected- for me, it would default to Getmany and add in VAT to the total.  Changing to the U.S. drops the prices quite a bit, and shipping is around $20.

Until Shimano comes out with 1x11 SLX, the best deal on a 1x11 drivetrain is the SRAM GX, I've seen a complete drivetrain group with M1400 cranks for $469 on eBay.  This was new out of Asia, so you would need to wait a bit for shipping.  I was a big fan of Shimano drivetrains until I drank the SRAM 1x11 Kool-Aid, I was hooked.  Since you are getting new wheels anyway, just find a set with an XD driver and you will be good to go with a 10x42 cassette.

Same here - had tried SRAM several times and kept using Shimano - until 1x... now I've got a SRAM drivetrain, and after seeing the XTR 1x stuff, I'm okay with sticking on the SRAM.

I totally agree.  That's been the same experience for me.  In the past I liked the smoothness of the Shimano shifting, but now that I have had SRAM 1x11 systems, I kinda like the SNAP-SNAP you get with the SRAM stuff.  Not to mention, I like having a 10T cog on the cassette, something Shimano doesn't think is much of an advantage.  I was on either Jenson USA or Pricepoint and put together a SRAM GX group for $400, even less than eBay.

What's interesting is now that SRAM has GX and X1 options for their 1x11, all the big name manufacturers like Trek, Santa Cruz, and Specialized are dumbing down their drivetrains to cheaper options.  Even their high dollar bikes mostly have X1, not even X01 and I'm starting to see no factory bikes with XX1 anymore.  They are only interested in increasing their margins by giving the customer less expensive components.  However, to be fair, even SRAM GX is a better component group than XT was five years ago.

I laid out the options, and she chose XT.

Anyway, exciting news, they just shipped the frame. Took a little while to paint, but hopefully it will ship fast and it will still make it here before our trip next weekend.

For an extra price kick, Chain Reaction, Performance, Nashbar, and one or two others offer Cash Back through EBATES.

If you haven't used EBATES, send me your email so I can send you a referral, which yes, you get more cash back with referrals.

Nice choice of color!

+2 on that. Looks reminiscent of the old SID Blue. Always liked that color, had repainted my Karate Monkey from poo brown to almost that exact color.

Just received everything a couple days ago.

Broke the frame down to grease the bushings and to make sure that the bushings were long enough to reach both sides of supports on the stays. Everything looked fine with the bushings, but they did get some paint on the ball bearing covers where the main frame pivot is, tried to remove and greased up.

Had some issues setting the bead on the wheels for tubeless setup, so i just put the tubes in to set the bead for now, then i can go back to tubeless later.

We rode it yesterday and she loved it!  going to get a total weight soon, maybe post a video.

I think it looks pretty cool.

Great build. I did mine for about AU $3600 and weighs around 11kg. Could go lighter with different tyres, front forks and seat and get it down another 1kg but Im happy with what I have.
