Chinese Compressionless Brake Housing? Hi Everyone!

Speccing my first China build, and the goal is to get as close to 100% China branded as possible.
One place where I have had no luck is non compressible brake housing.
I will be running cable actuated hydraulic disk callipers, and understand non compressible housing improves performance.

I will be internally routing, so those segmented metal housings are out of the question.

Any recommendations? Or am I stuck with Yokozuna or Jagwire?

Thanks!

Re: Chinese Compressionless Brake Housing?
I’m currently building my first chiner too, and couldn’t find chinese compressionless housing, so I web’t with this: https://www.wiggle.co.uk/trp-cableset?sku=100591397
10£ cheaper than jagwire is a nice saving imo.

Thanks for the tip! I'll check the TRP cables out

Velobuild custom frame painting and decals Hi All,

Looking to pull the trigger on the R-168, but had a question about painting.

For those who had their frame painted, how would you rate the quality?
Also, has anyone requested decals added to their frame? If so, was there any additional charge?

Re: Velobuild custom frame painting and decals
I think the Chameleon paint jobs are priced at a 3 colour paint job on their site. No I didn't get a quote on the decals. Got the impression they could be included with the paint job but not sure

I just checked out your build in the other thread. Looks great!   Exactly what I am looking for, but with a dark red base instead of purple

I like the Milhouse touch.

Here was Chris' answer:

Chameleon paint one color 70usd ,20usd more than regular colors
One color chameleon and one regular is ok ,80usd painting cost

Regards

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame
Did you use the SM-MA-R160D adapter? https://si.shimano.com/pdfs/si/SI-8NU0A-001-00-ENG.pdf

Wondering whether I should use a 140mm rotor or an adapter.

Could stick with a 140 if you wanted to save a few $$$ and a few grams
Don't think braking performance will be affected much

Re: Zrace RX - Does it play well with Shimano derailleurs?
I've just read it...... pray for me ahahaha To be honest they money i paid for it, I figured that even if I don't like it, I can sell it for at most a modest loss. For sure they won't continue selling them for <300 usd IMO, so I thought it was worth the risk. I'll do a full review here when I recieve it.

Looks like the cost of these units has gone up. If it is any comfort, looks like they resolved the pedal angle and crank flex issues (also, for what it is worth they flipped the logo to the right orientation...that's like 20 watts right there!)
I imagine some of the other issues may be resolved or mitigated with firmware updates (hopefully)

Look up the reviews by Charles Ouimet and Ronald Kuba.  Also balanced and noticing some of the issues that Shane noticed.

Based on those reviews, I think it is important to consider your level of experience.  If you are like me, where you are above average but lower than amateur, the P325CS should be fine.

If you are amateur level or competitive, it may not be for you.

I bought these as well  and have them in hand, but haven't tested them out yet (kinda need the rest of the bike first, and don't want to install them on my beater)
I noticed the weight is 30g heavier than advertised.  I have the standard 53-39, which may be the reason why it is heavier.  I did get slightly shorter cranks at 170mm.  It could also just be manifacring variance.  But one can hope it is because they added a little material back to stiffen it up a bit...

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame Ultregra and Dura-Ace are squarely in the realm of diminishing gains
Marginal performance improvement and weight savings / dollar

Typical cheaper weight savings areas would be bars and seatpost, but that's not possible with the 168 (I suppose you could cut some excess seatpost for free...)

Tires are a good place to save some weight, especially since they are a consumable part that will need to be replaced anyways.

Depending on your current saddle, that is another cheap place to save weight (especially with Chiner parts)

If you are including pedal weight, and if you don't mind speedplay, there are light Chinese Speedplay compatible titanium pedals out there.

Finally wheels and spokes.  But this is where diminishing returns start kicking in, even with Chiner parts

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame I am certain they will.  There is a cost for decals.  For me it was $30.  Do not know if this varies depending on how many you get. I requested decals for the downtube, headtube, top tube, and seat tube.

Originally I asked if I could add 中国制造, which means Made in China.
They would have let me have that on the house. Lol

I'd totally lean into it though and call it "C-Works"    ;D
