Re: 29er hardtail Welcome. I've been around for about a week and the basic strategy seems to be to find a popular/common model and buy the same one. If you read the forums a bit you can also get a sense of which suppliers are currently doing a good job by delivering high quality frames and customer service. Seems like Carbonda is hot right now. There used to be a good contact on here that people would use ('Peter') with predictable results but that currently doesn't exist.

I'm looking for the same thing as you and i've narrowed my search to:

http://www.carbonda.com/mountain/mtb/97.html or another one of their HT's or something from ICAN. Let me know what you figure out.

Re: Carbonda fm936 Thoughts

'Finished' mine for now. Had a great first ride. Everythings worked perfectecly as inteded, only had to get used to the geo. Handles great ones you get a hang of it.

I made the wheels myself but it took me two attempts regarding spoke lengths for the straight pull hubs.... bummer but they ride great in the end. ca. 1500 grams total.

I used Slapper Tape for a chainguide (only mounted in the second picture) and i can really recommend that stuff. Very flexible solution.

I use a 165x42,5mm shock and no problems so far. Frame is a L.

I might need a 60mm stem - bike feels shorter than expected so im interested as to see what it does to the handling.

Im running 170mm cranks with 25% sag and no strikes so far. (4 rides in... )

I have a BSA BB and the window to help route the Dropper cable is very small so it was a mayor pain in ass. Got it in the end though. I did use a foam liner which makes the friction higher i.e more difficult.

Haven't weighed the bike yet but frame was to spec.

Last pic is clearance of 2,35" tires on i29mm rims and a 32T Oval chainring.

Overall it feels like a GREAT purchase. :D

Re: Chinese SC/AM831 Group Buy What do we expect really? This kind of stuff can only be a side hassle for all these folks as they're doing contracts for larger companies, which are in turn doing contracts for bike manufacturers. Right now, every bike company is harassing the shit out of these companies to get stuff out faster and faster, and to increase production in ways that aren't necessarily possible given the timeframe. A lot of folks don't really have the inside perspective so here goes: After everything was sold out and the demand was huge for this season, pretty much every brand of bike related product is going in to booking season right now (and many have already been due - by around up to a month ago). Many, many dealers have decided to massively increase their booking orders for everything from bikes, to helmets, to armour, tubes, soft goods, etc. We've heard that booking orders that have come through already eclipse the total annual sales for many of these brands, which doesn't even include any potential re-orders or any dealers that are trying to go the traditional route of a booking/reorder mix. This in turn translates to Trek/Giant/Norco/POC/SMITH/Whoever turning to their manufacturers and asking for more shit to be made.

Way more shit.

And the reality is, how much can these places actually increase production year over year? 5%? 10%? Adding capacity at this type of manufacturing is extremely difficult, especially given the timeframe (bike product has about a 180 day window, manufacturing to sales for most brands) So I'm guessing Eddy and the other folks over at Haideli are waaaaaaayyy too busy trying to keep up with their large client demand to work on their side projects. So it could be a while before we hear more from this. I'm going to be patient, and if it takes so long that this is no longer a 'buy', then that's too bad but it's the way it is at the moment.

Anyway I probably should have posted that in the other thread. Oh well.
