Im in the market for a computer with a nav system so i can go exploring. Anyone have experience with these? I currently have the g+ But i was thinking of the sprint or the igs520. The igs520 is like 70-80 more than the sprint. Also open to other companies if anyone has experience.
-
Are you sure you mean the IGS520 and not the 618/620? The 520 should be cheaper than the Sprint.
I went from the G+ to the iGS520. The computer itself is great, the navigation feature is pretty basic tho.
I personally wouldn't spend over 100$/€ on a chinese computer, as they all have some issues, and the support is moderate at best. I'd just swallow the bitter pill and get something from a reputable brand like Garmin or Wahoo.
-
Well, I just bought the MageneC406, so once I spend some time with it, I can report back
-
That would work, thank you.
And the 620 is more expensive at $180 but it has a color coded gps, the 520 has a black and white.
-
I checked out the iGS620 as well, but couldn't justify the extra cost for what I need out of a bike computer
I furiously tried to rationalize buying it but just couldn't
-
Fair, whats the diff between 620 and 520 besides the colored nav?
-
620 also has integrated maps, while 520 only has line-based navigation.
Wrote something about it here
http://chinertown.com/index.php/topic,3219.msg26820.html#msg26820
-
Thanks. I think the 520 wont work for me then because i went on a good century the other day and i didnt really know where i wanted to go. So it seems like the 620 is the best option
-
I had igpsport i618, it works fine but i changed it because i needed a navigation.
In the last software upgrade there are add maps. But it have low space memory and they have introduce the new i620.
Now I use X-Plova X5evo
https://www.xplova.com
After 1 year to use, its a good compromise to quality price.
Navigation is very good, Free maps and is simple to create route to follow on the website and download to device by phone hotspot
-
It says it can handle 3000 hours before needing to be drained. Do you think this includes or doesnt include using a nav sustem .map file?

Anyone end up getting any hands on experience with the iGS620?

That's what I've been using for the better part of a year now. It's an alright bike computer. It syncs to sensors and such quite easily. Uploads data to strava ans training peaks automatically which is nice. It also shows you when you get a text or call. You can read the text straight from the device. Navigating the device UI is pretty simple and easy to read/understand. It does its job as a bike computer well , however, the QOL features and navigation are problematic.
The route planning is terrible. You can import gpx data from other sites but even then the navigation on the device is pretty poor. It doesn't alert you if you've missed a turn and if you take a wrong turn , if there's two left at a fork in road for example, you won't know until thr two roads separate from each other for it to be noticeable on the screen. You can't zoom in to see the correct road nor does it have any way to tell you which is the correct path to take.
The company behind thr product is currently developing the accompanying app while its live. So sometimes it won't connect with thr device unless I turn Bluetooth off on my phone and then start the app so it can turn Bluetooth on itself. Or you get other fun random bugs. Last update the app decided to change to German and this week its Spanish.
I honestly can't recommend the product at all. If you don't use navigation might as well get a cheaper unit and if you do then might as well get something a little more expensive that works.

Thanks. That's what I was worried about. The main reason for getting the igs620 would be for the navigation. If that is lacklustre or, even worse, frustrating and difficult, then I'd agree it would be a pass.

So, the igs630 has been released.
It looks good...visually at least.
Anyone keen?
https://www.igpsport.com/bikecomputer
-
I'm interested. Just not sure what price they want. I see really low prices on the 620.
I have wahoo on electronics and their warranty replacement has been 100% no issues no extra costs for me. Just save your receipts for proof of purchase.
-
I've seen that one too. Quick search throws out a shop from Australia, which offers it for $300 AUD.
That's around 210€.
IGS 620 is at ~140€, Garmin Edge 530 ~200€, Wahoo Bolt V2 ~260€.
I know who will have the better software and support, and it's not iGPSport.

The Bolt and 530 are within that price point and are fairly comparable, spec-wise. And a lot of Chinese firms still don't have their customer support long-game together yet.
I am chatting with iGPSport right now. Let's see what pricethey quote. I'm interested just because I've been dying to see if there is a valid Chinese made contender for head units.
'll report back when I get a quote

Where can we buy this?

Thanks SW. Was totally waiting for someone to come out with one of these.
Not exactly revolutionary technology - i am surprised it didn't happen sooner

Intelligent brake detection
BRight Strobe if a car is approaching too fast
Auto on off if you aren't moving after 5 mins.
Preorder Jd.com June 13th.
They say it works with devices that use traffic detection but only should megene products. So someone needs to ask if garmin wahoo hammerhead bryton igsports will work. Or be the first to buy and gamble.
-

They're available for pre-order now in China on Tmall/JD but won't ship until like mid June. International customers would probably have to wait a couple months for them to list it on Ali?
I doubt that it'd work with other brand head units. The signal should be your standard ANT+ but to integrate the radar functions requires developer input from the head unit side. Just because your existing head unit supports Varia doesn't mean that it'd also work with the L508.

I understand Magene is coming out with a new head unit soon too.
Can’t see how it would integrate with the C406. It’s a basic LCD unit, with limited customization

IIRC the only Magene head unit that supports radars right now is the C406 Pro via a software update(?)

They said it will be listed in a month on Ali.
Hopefully I'll find sleep till there :D

CORRECTION: I now notice you said C406 Pro. This one is different. If this is the only compatible unit, I'm out.
Maybe, it’d have to be something of a hack job though, as the screen just lacks anything that would be useful as a visual cue. Although, it is bloody loud so it could be audio

Yeah I'm not sure how it'd work either. I've never used a Magene head unit before but the screen seems so low tech that I doubt it could even display an animation fluidly. It's weird because Magene is rumored to be Wahoo's trainer and power meter OEM. Although they might not be directly involved with Wahoo's head unit business, surely they could at least make something with a proper screen?

They recently released this radar tail light overseas and I I checked some information about this tail light on their website. They said this tail light is compatible with many models of bike computers and watches such as Garmin, wahoo etc.You can check on their website www.magenefitness.com/product_l508.html
I also don't know where to buy it now, but I have communicated with magene Facebook customer service. They told me L508 will be listed on their AliExpress or other online stores soon! To be honest, as the second brand to released radar taillight after Garmin Varia, I am also looking forward to how L508 performs.

Looks like they posted it to their main site too.

Although, looks like they either accidentally buried or removed their eCommerce functionality with their recent site upgrade…

I did order it today on aliexpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004540845201.html
The EUR/USD hurts but after riding with a friend with a Varia, I'm convinced it helps when riding solo.
And I like the brand.

I’d grab it too, but it’s not compatible with my low-tech C406 (non-pro) computer

Hi Carbonazza,
What head unit do you use?
The unit lists compatible devices, but I wonder if it works with the Karoo2.
For example the Varia doesn’t list the Karoo as compatible with the Varia, but it still is.
UPDATE: I’ve confirmed with iGPSports that the IGS630 is currently not compatible with the Varia or Magene unit. I just lost my C406 yesterday in a group ride, so I am shopping around for a new unit. Was hoping to keep the 100% made in China experiment going. Guess I’ll have to break with that for the sake of a new unit. Maybe Garmin or Hammerhead?

It's interesting because it's Android based, perhaps one could sideload apps like the Strava APK? I know that the Cadence app (https://getcadence.app/support-topic/bluetooth/) supports Varia and Assioma. However, those features are locked behind in-app subscriptions so sideloading may pose an issue.

Very interesting!
I just bought the Karoo 2 for the same reason - it’s android based. (And you can sideload apps to it)
I wonder if they’ll make in international market version.
-
Hi Carbonazza,
What head unit do you use?
The Karoo 2, and it seems to work well.
The pairing was instant.
It detects the cars behind, show a left bar with color codes based on distance.
And I got an alert on screen when I turned the light off.
I'll do more testing end of August, and check if there are more advanced options.

Good to hear, as I not only just bought the Karoo 2, but also purchased 20 L508s….

I've had my iGPSPORT i50S for a few months now and am generally impressed. It's a fairly basic GPS/Beidou computer that can interface to a heart rate monitor, cadence sensor, and wheel speed sensor, but not a power monitor. The screen is a simple LCD display with no maps or navigation. I ordered a package that included the heart rate, cadence, and wheel speed sensors as well as a mount.
The good:
- Garmin-style mounts are cheap and easy to find.
- Speed, distance, and elevation calculations are all fairly close to what I've calculated with other means.
- It was easy to pair the device with the sensors, and the connectivity has generally been good.
- Battery life seems pretty good. It could easily last an entire day of riding.
- It's durable. I left it on the roof of my car and it fell off when I went around a corner. I found it a couple days later, lying in the gutter. There's just a minor scratch or two.
- iGPSPORT has good tech support. I've emailed them twice with questions and got useful answers within 24 hours in both cases.
The not as good:
- It seems to lose GPS reception easily when riding in forested areas. I've had a couple rides where the reception drops out and recovers a few seconds later, and it happens repeatedly. The beep when this happens gets annoying, although the total distance still seemed accurate. (I did not have the wheel speed sensor on the bike at this time. There aren't many trees where I usually ride, so this isn't a big issue for me.)
- When I first got it, it reset itself periodically during a ride. I emailed iGPSPORT and they suggested a software update, which fixed the issue.
- The app is a bit unpolished. Some of the screens are awkward to use, and there are some issues working in miles.
- The "odometer" on the computer is not adjustable, and there is no support for multiple bikes on the computer itself. However, you can download the recorded rids with the app and then assign them to different bikes. The app will then show the cumulative distance for each bike.
Overall, I'd happily buy it again. The wheel speed sensor isn't essential, but it does allow it to detect motion and start recording more quickly than when on GPS alone. It should also help when there are satellite reception issues.
