My headset didn't even come with one shim. I think I got most of the wiggle out by putting a little 2 mm spacer on the top. I will try to find a few shims and see if that helps as well.

I feel like this should be simple but I can't seem to get the play out of the headset. When I tighten everything down I get a small amount of play at the top bearing. Any idea how to get that out? Seems like no matter how much I tighten it up, it still has a little wiggle.

Figured this out as I messed around with it more. If anybody has this issue make sure you have your steerer cut about 3 mm shorter than your spacers. Apparently I didn't have a big enough gap and it wouldn't tighten down completely.

Guess this would be the time to insert the noise-cancelling foam as well?
This is the last step. You can do it before installing the handlebar and fork, but reinstalling the handlebar and fork isn't that difficult.

The order is clear to me now, however the lenght of the housing is a bit difficult to guess (the handlebar is not on the bike). Offcourse I can do an educated guess. And too long is better than too short, but still. Is there anybody with a 17,5" frame and a 700mm handlebar that can measure the lenght of the housing? The backside is no problem, the derailleur is allready on, and the lenght can be more or less the same as on my previous bike.
My housings are long enough it won't touch the frame when I pull the steer complete to the right or to the left.
So, turn your steer complete to the right (shifter installed, uncut housing attached to the shifter (somehow)), guide your housing to the insert point of the frame, keep 2 cm clear between the curved housing and the frame. And this is the length you need. That's it.

Thnx, got the lenght figured out more or less (at least, on the front). Confused with the parts I should use when installing the housing.

I've got an XTR shifter and it came with 1 cable (which I cut in two parts), 2 end caps, some other stuff (guess for frames using external routing).

I think this should be the right way:
FRONT
housing goes into shifter without end cap [edit] wrong, it looks like I should use an end cap here [/edit]
housing goes into frame with end cap

BACK
Frame to cable, with end cap
Housing to derailler, whith end cap with tongue
Unprotected cable to last part of derailler, partly shielded

This makes 3 end caps, than why are the only 2 included with the XTR shifter??

Correct?

The number end caps you need is correct. I used a Jagwire kit but my XT shifter came with 2 end caps on the housing plus a few in the bag. When you say there are only 2 end caps are you counting the ones that ware already on the housing?

I have everything installed and now just trying to adjust the shifting and running into some issues. When I go to the biggest gear in the back and front the chain jams on the front derailleur. When installing the bottom bracket I used one spacer on the drive side per instructions. Possible that I shouldn't have used any?

Heated the tire up a little and the bead popped on. Seems to be leaking out of the money valve stem hole. Hopefully the Stans will seal that up.

They are the foldable ones. Issue is they were folded up and secured with a very tight zip tie. I think I may need to put a tub in them for a few days and see if it will mold to the correct shape.

So I got the rear tire up with the gas station compressor. Front tire is really being a pain though. The issue is that the tire came folded up very tight and now there are big creases in the bead that I can't seem to straighten out. I stuck it in my car this morning and I am hoping when it warms up it will smooth itself out. If not, any recommendations?

I think the issue is I don't have a compressior to set the bead and my track pump doesn't get it done. Going to try to do it with a CO2 cartridge tonight.

Finally received my package from Merlins. What an adventure that was. Package went from the UK to the Netherlands, all the way to San Francisco and then finally to Utah. Hope to get this thing built by the weekend.

Well tried to tubeless on the new tires and failed. After getting stans all over the place I gave up and ordered some tubes. Inflating your tires shouldn't be the hardest part of building a bike.

Sounds like it did probably leave XMI but maybe is still at the sort facility. You could try calling USPS and see if they can track it down for you.
