Re: Velobuild VB-R-218 So I finished my build last week and I’ve been putting the frame thru its paces.  I’ve had few reservations at the start but it’s turning out to be an impressive machine.  I’ve had zero issues with the BB fitment and the only thing that needed real attention was making the rear brake housing exit bigger, 3D printing a more robust front deraillure cable exit and sanding/dremeling down the BB paint overspray and protruding rivet.

Major parts include: Sensah 12spd, look keo pedals, elite wheels and aliEx EEbrake replicas.   Without the added crap and accessories it came in exactly 7kg (including bottle cages).

One advice I can give to anyone looking to build the frame is keep small files and a dremel handy!

Re: VeloBuild Headset Play Issue Using Separate Stem/Handlebar: Resolved. I had local machinist make me a couple of identical replacement spacers I specified how much thicker I want them. It was not expensive. k.dayconcepts@gmail.com, no I am not making any commision just providing an option.

Re: Curious what build weights people are averaging on their bikes?
I'm thinking about it  :) but I also want a Seka Exceed.  As much as I like having a gravel bike around, I don't really ride much gravel and it just becomes a fat tire road bike.

It was built up with a Rival 1x groupset with an 11-50 cassette so we're likely not far off in weight, what size is yours?
Here's a quick shot of the frame!
If anyone is looking for an alloy gravel frame, let me know  :D

Mine is a small (52cm). I keep a gravel bike around because I ride some off-road trails, but I don't feel the need for a MTB. Here's mine built up with GRX 400/600 10/11 speed components + 105 RD.

Re: Elite Wheels / Aliexpress / Trace Velo
...
With the above said I do have a screen shot of what I posted. I can post it if that would help. I am more concerned with people knowing which youtubers and forums are legitimate advice to listen to and spend their hard earned money accordingly and who is just making content to make money off people.

Can you share the screen shot of your comment on Trace Velo's video here so we can see both sides of the issue and evaluate properly for ourselves.
Mind you, it is his channel and source of business and hence he has the right to do whatever he likes with his comment section.

Most of us ended up in this forum because we started our journey watching Trace Velo and hence built our first bike ourselves and saved a lot of money in the process.
Lots of people here also at one point or the other had issues with dealers. This has nothing to do with whichever youtube reviewers we watched before pulling the trigger.

Just because you had a bad experience with a dealer he reviewed doesn't mean you should come here and run him under the bus.

However, I do sympathize with you on the terrible situation which I feel you should take up with EliteWheels and probably Aliexpress.

Maybe you should make your own YouTube video about the situation and put all the keywords that will direct even more traffic, visibility and awareness to your issue with EliteWheels and Aliexpress.

Try doing something positive for the community first before throwing a major contributor of the community under the bus just because of your one bad issue out of many other successful customers.

In addition, just like Velobuild once did regarding issues with their services, It will be good if Elite Wheels or even Trace Velo can comment on this issue since both have lots of customers and followers here respectively. Always the best to hear from both sides before throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Re: VeloBuild Headset Play Issue Using Separate Stem/Handlebar: Resolved. There is one available on Aliexpress
if I measured correctly it should be 3.55mm thick meaning 3.55mm of material above the bearing.

You could measure yours, how much it sticks up above the bearing.

I would not really recommend sanding down either the ring or the headset cap. Although if you have a drill press you could! My headset cap only had a 2mm deep cut from the beginning, I also had a compression ring slightly too thick so I used my drill press to evenly remove 1mm of material just like a CNC machine

Re: VeloBuild Headset Play Issue Using Separate Stem/Handlebar: Resolved. Haha no worries, you tried  ;D You measured everything but the important part haha

Try this  :) Both like the way you did it and then also by putting the compression ring on the bearing then you can measure from the bearing shield to the top. See if you get the same measurements by doing both methods.

Apart from that, that compression ring looks really nice to be honest. Is it an upgraded version by Velobuild? It looks nice because the sleeve goes through the bearing meaning it gives more contact area on the steerer tube! Really nice. As you said, the one I linked is very thin but should do the work. Okay maybe not SUPER nice because it is very open in the front.. But I like the thickness

There is also this ring, it wont fit your headset spacer but it is a really nice ring as it gives maximum support on the steerer. Although this one is thicker, 8mm in total and 4.5mm above the bearing (the other one was much slimmer at 3.55mm).

Re: Velobuild GF-002
What's your take on the geometry difference / best use cases for the GF002 vs GF003?

I see you also have a 168. Given the 2x you have on the gravel, how do you think the bike would feel as a substitude for a road bike if you put road wheels on it? I'm thinking of buying a GF2 or 3 instead of a 177, but most of my riding is still going to be on the road so i'd like something capable.

What wheelset are you running? It looks quite deep, and pretty awesome. Most gravel wheelsets are pretty shallow.

Here's a breakdown of all three VB gravel frames from my pov.

I would say the GF-001 is for someone that wants to go faster either on gravel or on slicks for commuting. I've run 28's on it and it felt pretty zippy. I've also seen someone with a really nice light build they used for competitive CX racing: shorturl.at/glY59

The GF-002 would probably be better for more chunky gravel and technical stuff if you're into single track. It has way more mounts (under the down tube, fork, front and rear fender eyelets) so great for bike packing/touring. It also uses a standard 27.2 seatpost which is important for some.

As to geometry differences between the GF-002 and GF-003 (because it has a lot of the features the GF-003 has), here is a comparison tool I loaded with the dimensions for a medium listed on VB's site: shorturl.at/jlxNZ Use the Swap Bikes button to go between the two.

Wheels on my GF-002 are 40mm CSC tubeless. Not too many gravel builds with deeper wheels, but it's fun haha
