Some background - I replaced Ultegra 6800 shifters coupled to 105 R7000 FD and RD on my indoor trainer bike with Sensah 2x11 Team Pro shifters. While I have plenty of experience indexing 2x Shimano FDs, with this Sensah, I am at a loss. The trim function just doesn't seem to work when the chain is on big chainring. Even the slightest flick sends the chain to small ring. There is no trim click as such. The same FD was fine with Ultegra shifters so I am ruling out FD as a problem.

Played around with limit screws, cable tension and usual FD tricks but this shifter just won't budge. I noticed that on a 2x Shimano FD-shifter combo, usually there are 4 clicks - 2 main and 2 trim. On Sensah I can count only 3 - 1 for the big ring and 2 for the small ring.

Anyone with same problem or have any unusual hacks for this because I seem to have run out of YouTube tutorials.

Component Deals & Selection / 9Velo wheels?
« on: January 30, 2024, 10:54:52 AM »
I am searching for a wheelset for my upcoming Yoeleo R12 and these came up. Has anyone given a thought or bought these wheels? There's plenty of information on LB, Elite wheels, or Farsports but not these and definitely not on this forum. Hambini did review a set and praised it. Their 35mm deep road wheels are 1209 grams for the pair and seem to use their own hubs with 36t ratchet system. Expensive and lighter CD series' 45mm deep wheels are under 1200 grams. Prices are comparable to Light Bicyle.

Hambini's comment -

A Chinese company has made a wheelset and specifically a hubset that is superior to the brand leading western counterpart (DT Swiss) and sells it for significantly less. 9 Velo does not have anywhere near the brand appeal of the larger western brands but there is little doubt that this wheelset is manufactured to a high technical standard.

The copyright text at the bottom says "Xiamen NineVelo Technology Co., Ltd." Xiamen sounds eerily familiar but I guess that's because its a very common name.

Set 2. Shimano 105 R7020 L/R : Want to call it like new but there is tiny mark on the rubber hood. Blades are spotless. No hoses or cables. --- $225 shipped in the CONUS.
Set 3. Shimano Ultegra R8070 L/R : Like new. Hoses included. Di2 works perfectly so does the hydraulic function. --- $350 shipped in the CONUS.
Set 4: Shimano Ultegra R8070 L/R : For parts. Plenty of scratches but Di-2 works, hydraulics ports are stripped out - so no brakes. Bought these to put on a trainer bike indoors but plans have changed. Can be dismantled for electronics etc or use indoors --- Send me offers.

I like chunky frames. Can’t find any reviews or anything on this absolute chonker though. What is it, anyone bought it? Have a R8000 rim brake groupset that I want to put to use and this looked…interesting.

Maintenance, Mechanics, & Tools / DT Swiss 240s hub conversion
« on: July 13, 2023, 09:27:14 PM »
My wheelset is an odd 12x135mm TA (rear) per Specialized's SCS format that they were pushing in mid 2010's. I am trying to convert it into standard 12x142mm. Can anyone confirm if the 12x142 end caps are all what I need or a specific 135 to 142 conversion kit? I am seeing on Alix there are numerous sellers selling 12x142 end caps for 240s hubs while Universal and other some bike specialty websites sell 135 TA to 142 TA conversion kit for $48~. From the photos, the end caps and conversion kit end caps look all same and no one specifies the dimensions. I could wager the "135 to 142 conversion kit" is a money grab but...thoughts?

Currently struggling with installing Panaracer GKs on HED Belgium+ road wheelset. So far I tried soap water spray, pulling the bead towards the rim with tire lever, even installing a tube and inflating it but as soon as I deflate the tube the tire pops off from the rim into the center section and cannot be inflated. Any other tricks? I always had problems with Panaracer tires before but this time its especially difficult as the tire seems to hold absolutely no air at all so I am guessing its the construction of the rim that plays a major role too. On a related note, WTB i23 light wheels with WTB Resolute tires were easy peasy to mount.
I am thinking of taking it to my LBS but anything else that worked for you guys?

Vendor Discussion & Reviews / Order cancellation mess
« on: June 28, 2023, 12:35:57 PM »
So, as I understand cancellation is not a right on Alix but rather a privilege and entirely at seller's mercy but does anyone have any tips on how to successfully cancel order and get refund? In the past I have cancelled may be two orders and both were accepted by seller immediately and purchase refunded, while on one occasion the seller asked me to cancel which I did - no big deal.

This time though, it is turning into a pickle. I intended to order a frame and seeing how frame ordering can be a chore on Alix I checked with seller if they had the size and color that I wanted. The seller confirmed they had it in stock and would ship immediately if I was to order it. So I ordered and the seller basically did nothing for 3 days. When I asked when will they ship the frame, the reply came as in next few days. I then asked didn't they have it in stock? The seller says no its out of stock and has given order to factory. I asked if other colors are in stock, if they are I will okay with other color to which he says every color and every size is out of stock.

Another 3 days pass and nothing. Some more back and forth later, I cancelled the order which the seller rejected and said I will send free gift with the frame for all the trouble and will ship soon. Another 2 days passed and when I enquired, he said 5-7 days more as the factory is still processing orders.

I then cancelled again and seller didn't act on it. The timer started with 48 hours for refund. Just 2 hours before the refund would be processed automatically by Aliexpress, damn seller marked the frame as "shipped" and provided a tracking number that didn't have any information.

At the same time he sent a message that, wait for 2 days and it will start showing update (which I am aware) but I didn't like the feel of this transaction. Did some Google-fu and found out that you can raise a dispute by talking to customer care, which is what I did.
The customer care raised a dispute on my behalf for refund and communicated same to the seller.

This morning, the seller messaged saying "please confirm the order first and refund will be processed within 15 days but if you go ahead with dispute it will take longer." No idea what that means. I have never gone thru this process and I am confused :S is seller bullshitting me? Has anyone raised a dispute before...what exactly needs to be done here. Just wait or confirm the order as seller is saying? The customer care is dicey at best - some of them understand exactly what I am saying, the others make you pull your hair in frustration. Fortunately the person who raised dispute was pretty well conversant and gave me the support ticket immediately. Unfortunately, to check the status of that ticket there is no direct system - you have to jump thru hoops and find a (real) customer care person.

Maintenance, Mechanics, & Tools / What lube?
« on: June 28, 2023, 10:20:32 AM »
I am curious what lubricants community here is using on their bikes? I started with T9 Boeshield, kept at it for a long time. Then switched to Squirt wax lube and finally to Rock'n'Roll gold type for past few months and quite happy with it. Squirt was good but I found out that it flakes out pretty quickly and doesn't last as long as they say especially if you ride on dusty trails. RnR has been good from that aspect. Anything else that you had good luck with?

I would like to know how do folks here know when to change the cassette? My chain is skipping on 6/7th cogs and I am wondering if its time to change?

I landed on Ultegra R8020 hydraulic group and now I am itching to replace my mechanical brake groupset on VB GF-002. Only thing that is stopping me? The internal cable routing. My current mechanical setup is perfect. Brake pull is smooth, gear shifts are swift and cables are all new too. If I pull out this stuff I am afraid I will disturb the harmony that the bike is in. Horrors of ICR are real.

What would be the ideal way to replace mechanical cable outers with hydraulic hoses on such frames? Dismantling everything and starting from scratch is one obvious option sure but is there anything else that can be tried? Like passing an inner cable from existing cable outer and pulling the hose with it from other end :S anything else?

Recently built up a Salsa Journeyer with Deore M5100 and earlier a Diamondback with M6100 - both with Sunshine cassette before switching to SRAM NX and Shimano XT. Because the shifting was terrible. While it improved with SRAM cassettes, I can never get the same feeling as my road groupset - Ultegra/105 or even Tiagra 4700 all of which are positively smoother shifting with almost no "bad" spots. The Ultegra especially is near perfect despite being years old at this point.

On the other hand my M5/6100 groups always have 2 or 3 indexing problems which I can't seem to get rid of. I tried changing their default shifters to SLX and XT (M8100) but that didn't help. So apparently shifters aren't the problem.

Should I just assume that jumps between cogs are much larger on MTB compared to road cassette causing the inferior shifting performance? Or is there a trick to index mtb groups which is different from road groups? I read that you should let your brand new chain and cassette run in for some period to settle them down with each other which I did. The M6100 has about 200 miles while the M5100 has close to 300 but shifting hasn't improved. Do they need even longer run in period? I'm baffled.

I feel this forum needs a section where people can post their more generic questions to seek help regardless of which category of bike they have e.g. a question regarding brake bleed or chain sizing or tuning derailleurs etc. I often think of asking members here but then I don't have the right category for it so I pretty much just go to Reddit and ask there. Thoughts?

Excellent condition SHIMANO BR-RS785 full hydraulic caliper set (front and rear). Some use marks but very clean and perfectly functional. One of the caliper will need pads replaced soon, the other one is like new. These are post mount type Shimano XT level calipers.

Each caliper goes for $55+tax usually, $49 shipped for pair to CONUS. I will take PayPal or Venmo.
