Component Deals & Selection / Re: Frame bearings

I just checked original but now discarded bearings from ICAN wheelset - they are Fushi branded too.

Doesn't seems to be a popular topic here to discussed chinese tires.

I've been a happy user for ChaoYang Cobra H-486 clincher tires. I've ridden the 700x25 and x28 as well.
Their performance seems to be on par with the name brand. The price, should I say its very chinese. $19usd a pop.

Want to hear other H486 users out there and perhaps other Chinese tire brand too.

Continental Grand Sport Race 28c pair is generally $35 and under $30 on sale days. May not be the best but plenty good. Do you have link to these tires from which store you bought?

Those Choice Day sales are getting better too. After my LTwoo ER9 order was botched, the next day Choice sale started and after coupons it was only $20 or something more than Anniversary sale price.

34
Wasn't wondering about the price. It was about the shipping to USA.

The rim brake version is back on with free shipping to USA. Rates have increased though. Not sure what's going on there.

Fushi also has steel bearings and is good. I have bought a bunch of bearings from AliEx in recent times from Fushi, couple others and all have been fine including headset and bottom bracket bearings to service existing bottom brackets. The same bearing sizes are used across multiple applications. Its entirely possible the skateboard bearings use same ones as wheel bearings.

Apart from Fushi which is everywhere on AliEx, other stores that have many bearings and I have purchased from are FlyLeopard and BearingSolution store. The Fushi store had the best packaging of all. The bearings came in made to size plastic vials with my name, bearing size and quantity printed on the outside.

Has anyone written the 2 sellers and asked why they can't/wont sell to customers in the USA?  Since one of them sold one to me, perhaps they can be convinced to ship to the USA.

I did to one, they didn't say why they cannot ship but if one really wants it they will send it. The reply from seller:

If you need it? We can send it to you via a special link.

I have asked for that special link but yet to hear back. Something tells me its not going to be Aliexpress product link, lets see.

Yeah noticed that too. All in all just two stores selling EDS TX and they won't (now) ship to the states.

Component Deals & Selection / Re: AliExpress payment issues
« on: April 05, 2024, 05:38:55 PM »
Personally, using PayPal I almost never had a problem. Just got a bunch of orders in yesterday as well as quite a few during Anniversary sale. Smooth sailing every time.

Only time I had issue was sometime in 2022 when an item went out of stock as soon as the page went to PayPal. Payment kept failing without proper message. After a few minutes I refreshed the cart and one of the items moved down to "unavailable" section in the cart. I think back then the app wasn't handling such cases particularly well. Once the item moved out of its way, payment went through.

Not related to brakes as such but I use Dawn dish soap to clean the drive train of my bike. And for grease once I finished my tiny bottle of Shimano grease I just resorted to using Mobil1 synthetic grease. I had it already and don't know why I didn't think of it using earlier. I guess the bike snobbery got to me. There are coupons and discounts on it regularly and a tub can be had for under $10 v/s $15 for 50 grams of Shimano. Any automotive bearing grease will work e.g. Valvoline or Lucas oil and work out exponentially cheaper.

I think gold are better though.

Pretty much everyone who has dealt with VB have similar stories. In my case they forgot to send bottom bracket and extra derailleur hangar. I didn't realize rd hangar was missing and only asked for missing BB to Chris who said yeah he will send it. Nothing happened for two weeks so I asked again and he says oh it wasn't shipped? Let me check. Then next day sent a mail saying it's been shipped. About a week later I got bb in the mail. Another week passed and I got another bb in the mail :D exact same thing happened with rd hangar a month later too.

There's a clear communication gap between who actually packs/ships and Chris. I received the updated C ring in similar fashion - no tracking, no proper response just one mail from Chris saying it shipped. They might be lousy with communication but they won't steal your money or at least that's how I feel.

Cyclocross Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: Flyxii FE-02 Build

They work like any other wheel to be honest. I wouldn't buy them again as they do not provide any benefit okz there is one, spoke breakage is unlikely on the road, and no need to true the wheels). With these in particular (beskardi), there are two minor annoying things:

The pawls are very very small and the spring system so weak it is not up to the task, to the point that they require regular cleaning, relubing and re-tensioning, otherwise they start to slip. And second, both wheels came with a very annoying and noticeable play, and had to install two shims to remove it. Costing me something around 800€, I classify this as a very poorly chosen design a low performance/cost ratio, so I would not recommend them.
Thanks for honest review. Elite has similar model but don't think it sells well (or sells at all?). Other advantage that I can see is easier to clean but not that it matters much.

I receive lots of items with C2032 batteries. Maybe they accidentally packed a mineral oil container into your package? Anyways, I'd be annoyed that my package was returned. On the bright side, the blue edition ER9/X should be available on the next AliEx sale, so you can order the new & improved version instead!  ;)
That's how I am looking at it. I kept going back and forth because the new edition is coming. But then Joe's video where the new version doesn't seem to have any additional waterproofing pushed me over the edge. Not sure what went wrong, per the customer care its batteries. May be its for the better. With that said, today is Choice Day and with 50 off coupon the ER9 is again back to same price as anniversary sale.

Keep in mind that the so called official LTWOO store is not actually owned or run by LTWOO. At least according to Joe from China Cycling/Panda Podium. That’s why I just chose the best offer regardless of who the seller is and went with the 80s Designer Store.
yeah I remember reading that! In this case it was not only official store (apparently) but also the best offer by quite some margin. Almost a no brainer when coupons were stacked. Oh well.

I wouldn’t lose sleep over this. Maybe the parcel got damaged or wasn’t properly packed. Good thing it happened in China still. Shouldn’t be too hard for the seller to sort it out. Did you order it with batteries? Customs issue maybe?
Yes, without box and without battery version from their own official store. After reading boxof13's reply I got curious and started a chat with customer care. Their response -
Quote
unfortunately it has been returned back to sender and on further inspection it seems the reason is "non-permitted items - batteries".
So I asked if sender can resend the package, reply -
Quote
"No. Again, unfortunately Aliexpress has no system for reshipment of a package. I am buyer of Aliexpress too and this has happened with me before. The only option is to request for refund. Since you cannot request a refund I will start a refund dispute on your behalf"
. Not wanting to let go I asked if I should ask the seller directly, reply
Quote
"You can try but best option would be refund as any reshipment process will be outside of Aliexpress if the seller agrees".

So yeah that's it. They have started refund. To be frank I am pleasantly surprised at this particular service rep's responses.

Did you buy the eR9 from LTWOO Official Store and you're in the US? I had this issue twice and ended up not getting the eR9 (my third). I was told it was because restricted item (battery), even though I ordered one without battery, so customs don't allow for shipment. It's a bummer. I was recommended to buy from other sellers to avoid this issue. It's kind of odd, since my first eR9 was from this store, though it was before they became AE Choice seller. Being shipped by Choice may have something to do with it.
You are right. This is exactly what happened and I am in US, ordered it from LTW official store the no battery or box version. My guess at this point is that they forgot to remove those CR2032 batteries from the shifters? Sent multiple messages to LTW but they don't reply. I should have known because they have never replied to any of my messages earlier too.
Man this is surely is a bummer. I didn't even need the group and now I am unreasonably mad.
