29er / Re: Deciding between 057, 256, or 041

There needs to be a newer, lighter full suspension replacement for the 036.  That's what I would like and build.  If that doesn't come this year, then it will be an Epic.

The claim 1700g here, I doubt it though: http://www.carbonbikekits.com/frames/CFM035_29er_MTB_Full_Carbon_Suspension_Frame-en.html

Also, the number suggests it's older version of 036.

It seems that 10-42 is not wide enough and SRAM will push it further by quite a lot: http://www.thebikecomesfirst.com/possible-leaked-photos-of-new-sram-12-speed-eagle-drivetrain/

It is perfectly safe ;) It will change the geometry marginally (probably a little more stable ride) but that should be all.

I'd agree with BSA option. My only problem with GXP was that some time ago they tended to not be sealed very well and bearings deteriorated very quickly, but the designed was improved it seems. You can always go with alternative, like this one: http://www.aerozinebike.com/pro_4_171.html Brings some color and shaves a few grams as well.

I can only say that Garbaruk 34T oval fits on 256 but very narrowly, AB ring is almost the same

Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't feel all that safe with carbon-only stem. I went with Uno stem, which are sub 100g, together with a light bar that's not much of a difference in weight but feels safer a lot.

« on: November 29, 2015, 06:24:29 AM »
When I was making my order at www.r2-bike.com I got 10 Euro voucher for myself and two 5 Euro vouchers for friends. Since none of my buddies are upgrading anything atm, I'm willing to give them away so they don't get wasted. Each yields 5 Euro discount for at least 30 Euro purchase and is valid until 31.12.2015. I can give them away to two people. PM me if interested, just don't waste them please.

Yes, it's like in the first post. I think that on Wolftooth page there is a diagram which cranks have long and which have short spindle somewhere.

According to extralite (http://www.extralite.com/Products/Black%20Lock.htm) you need M15x1.5 nut. Problem is that , since almost always nut is integrated in the fork, nobody uses separate nuts. Only thing I found on R2 was https://r2-bike.com/SHIFT-UP-Thru-Axle-QR15-for-Carbon-Rigid-Forks.

Yes , looking into future upgrades: lighter saddle and seatpost would get me at least 120g, axles 100g, Ti spindles for pedals 60g, top cap & expander 10-20g, Ti bolts for stem 5g. Going sub-8kg is still a bit far, but it's 300g less alltogether.

Well, they still need to settle, but so far so good. Thru axles remove the big problem of Formulas - little spacing for the rotor, you set it once and axles maintain the position, unlike QR. 1.8mm rotors help too. I have comparison only with older XTs and Formulas seem to work comparably well. I'll definitely need to sort the rear axle nut problem out, it started moving on 3km ride to work. Maybe just replace it with https://r2-bike.com/SHIMANO-Nut-M12-for-Thru-Axle-SM-AX75-E-Thru-12-x-142-mm-5g

Component Deals & Selection / Re: BB30 Crank on BSA frame
« on: November 07, 2015, 12:34:13 PM »
Some time have passed, I have gathered all the parts and I can confirm that BB30 crank works on BSA frame. Parts used:

- Sram S2200 crankset with long spindle
- Rotor BSA30 Bottom Bracket + 2.5 mm shimano spacer on drive side
- Garbaruk oval 34T spiderless narrow-wide ring

Will put the full bike build in few days ;)
