Great thread idea! I'm actually a big fan of Intense cycles, and the fact that they freely admit where they source their frames only makes them more attractive of a brand to me. It's interesting to me that the quote states that they go to China for their carbon because they are the best, NOT because they are the cheapest. I wonder how honest that statement is..

Welcome Ahija!

Don't worry man, it's pretty normal. Iplay really needs to be more communicative after the sale but yeah, we've heard this story before. Don't worry/stress you'll get your goods. If there are any issues, they will take care of you. Communication may not be the best in the world but they are an honest company. Give it a week or a lil more, then if still no frame or response, then come revisit this thread.

Canyon aren't lying about how they do their business. The problem is just the anti-dumping law, it doesn't make sense. It's made so these companies like Canyon can produce their own bikes (at an fair price), but what do they do? They buy the frames from China, because it cheaper for them. But the private consumers - like us - have to pay anti-dumping (if it ain't raw carbon)...

With all due respect, and nothing against Canyon, but I have to disagree.. they are indeed lying. Very blatantly, I might add. They are not the manufacturer, and they claim to be.

Canyon are one of those companies who got an appropriation to buy stuff from China, so they don't have to pay anti-dumping. The other german company Rose does also have that appropriation and you can find many other european bike manufacturers on that long list too.  :)

So to be clear.. They are still chiner frames, right? If that's the case, they are blatantly lying and false advertising.

Nice find.

So you don't think these are frames purchased from China and then rebadged/remarketed as being made by Canyon bikes? They certainly make it seem as though they are the manufacturer:

I guess I would be kinda surprised if they are the actual manufacturers, and would assume it looks something more like this:

Welcome, Andre. You definitely came to the right place - Glad you found some useful info here. I really like the Titan as well, but think the 0-36 is more proven and tested and the frame I'd almost certainly go with. If I were going to go for something other than the 036 though, it'd be the Enduro copy. It's just so sweet looking. Problem is, it's the newest and least proven Chiner around. Here's the thread on it in case you haven't run across it yet: http://chinertown.com/index.php/topic,472.0.html

Component Deals & Selection / Re: Light Bikes Suspension Fork
« on: February 12, 2015, 10:07:32 AM »
This is pretty interesting. This first model may not be the best fork on the trail, but I bet in time they get to the level of performance that we're used to with name mid-tier name brand suspension forks. I'd like to know if (and if so which one) they used a specific company's fork internals and technology as "inspiration".

If they want to ship me one I'd be more than happy to test it and write a review.

If they were smart they'd do this. Send a freebie out for review to one of the mods or a member that's been around for at least a little while. If it was me, I'd follow along in a build thread and right when that particular thread/member started asking about fork recommendations/suggestions I'd jump in and conveniently offer up a freebie for review. Guaranteed to jump start sales of a brand new product that people may skeptical of at first.

It can be confusing. A lot of companies are trying to apply a few stickers to make the frame look more "branded" or "legit" and charge a few more bucks for them. Same frame. Might as well go with Iplay. Like you said, one of the reasons they've become the go to is because of their involvement in the forums. They realize their reputation is important for future sells and therefore are unlikely to totally leave you hanging if you get a bad product or shipping issues or whatever. Don't get me wrong, you'll still have to try to get their attention sometimes, not saying it's always 5 star service, but because they understand the importance of protecting that rep on the forums, you have a level of assurance/accountability that you can't get with someone like Ican. If Ican ships you a broken (and over priced, it seems) 036 frame you can only go to them to resolve your issue. If they ignore you, don't believe you or whatever - too bad. With Iplay, if you have an issue and contact them and then still feel like you weren't treated fairly, you can come to the forums and have a voice. That's why I order from them, at least.

I can't believe none of the other sellers are smart enough to be involved in the forums. Lucky for Iplay, I guess.

Great to hear. I knew they'd do what needed to be done in the end.

Like I said before, can't blame them for being skeptical. Can't blame you for being pissed lol. Glad it ended well.

Now you guys tell me is there even a shadow of a doubt?

I don't think anyone here is doubting you at all, man.

Sitar_Ned posted the communication with Peter where he agreed and confirmed that Iplay would cover the new frame and shipping. I guess it's just a matter of proof? I can honestly understand them asking for verification via LBS that it was manufacturing defect, but with all of the pics and that vid it looks pretty obvious to me.

Iplay - I think it's obvious he's not trying to cover up a mistake he made during installation. It's a defect in the frame. It's time to take care of this customer.

They don't realize that they can have much more business if the give good service in case of warranty of manufacturing faults.

This. So much this.  Especially now that chinertown is up and running and enough people are reading these forums. The chinese sellers are going to have to realize that there is a little more accountability than there was before - they're not used to that, I don't think. If they're smart, the extra accountability will be a good thing for their business because they can turn it into trust.

That said, I think it's important to remember that we are getting these carbon frames for pretty damn cheap - I'm sure profit margins are low. For a smaller operation, like Iplay, taking a loss probably isn't something that's easy to do. Obviously, I'm just speculating here.. point is, there are always two sides to the coin.

Ultimately, it's up to Iplay how they want to strategize and position themselves for the long run, in this market.

$350 for the cassette? Def not cheap. Can't wait for comparisons to Sram to start coming out.

Lol. Ah come on now, we're not elitists. I'd love to see some nice chinese titanium/steel builds. It's just they aren't as popular as carbon so nobody really knows a whole lot about them.

Niels, if you posted some of the frames you're considering, then it'd help us help you choose. I haven't even really looked into them yet, but I imagine you can get a really nice Chinese steel frame for pretty darn cheap.

After The Ride / Re: Coren Carbon Urban Bike - Awesome Design
« on: November 08, 2014, 06:33:55 PM »
If/when graphene makes it mainstream you will get your wish and then some. We could all be riding around on 12 pound full suspension MTBs that are way stronger than what we have now in 10-15 years.

Seems crazy (insane!) but a 10 pound full suspension, extremely strong,  mountain bike is probably totally within the realm of possibility if graphene ever trickles down into the components that we currently see carbon fiber used to manufacturer. Progress is being made. It truly is a revolutionary, futuristic material!

Some pics of recently produced graphene aerogel

Sales & Classifieds / Re: Tubular 50mm road rims, 24/28h
« on: November 04, 2014, 10:36:56 AM »
Damn, that's a ridiculously good deal - Hey cmh, I have no interest in building a road bike but had been considering a cross bike for some time. Would these be suitable for such a build or are they strictly for the asphalt? Fairly certain the answer is they are strictly road bike rims, but thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Really glad to see the classifieds section growing a bit. Hopefully, in time, I'll be able to snag some good deals on here (I hate using fleabay and/or Alibaba)
