Looking for some carbon cage that's strong enough for XC MTB, but relatively light and won't break the bank. :)

I bought the BC4 bottle cage, http://xmcarbonspeed.com/Products.asp?f2=67&f3=53 , from Peter, but that one doesn't hold my bottle during the first downhill.
So, I bought this one, Blackburn Slick Racing Bottle Cage ( https://www.bike24.de/p134937.html ), LIGHT (23gr) and CHEAP (7 EUR => 7,8 USD). Available in black, white and red.
So, choose not an open bottle cag, but a close one.

Hi JohnnyNT,
This smud-carbon shop looks pretty cool. I like their saddle. I can't see any ordering process here, I guess we just need to email them.
Any experience with them?
Cheers
-
It's a small Polish company, operating for over a decade now probably. I haven't ordered anything from them personally, but they are recognized and acclaimed in the PL light-bike community. AFAIK the only way of contacting them is by e-mail and sometimes it takes a little bit to receive an answer, but it's worth it.
-
Indeed, I have emailed them and still wait for their feedback :)
I'm VERY tempted with their saddle, more then I really want to spend on a saddle (150€) but 70g and very nice looking (I love the black and white design). I'd save 115g here (much needed after bumping up weight with dropper post and 27.5+ tires)

this one looks cool, but there is nothing holding the bottom of the bottle? Still works? Just wondering how. haha

Any particularly one here with good user feedback? :)

I have 4 of these. 1 on the wife's road bike and 3 on my mountain bikes. One of the 4 was a little rough but nothing a little file and sand paper couldn't take care of.

I'm using a Speedplay Nanogram. Got it from a shop guy for 10 bucks. Seems to work pretty well.
-
I have a pair of BC5 holders from Peter. They're light and hold the bottles super well. The other lighter weight designs I've had on my road bike have been junk.

If you go to aliexpress you will be overwhelmed :)

$6, pretty light, absolutely bombproof. Easy to get the bottle in and out, and I've never seen it lose a bottle.

Reviving this thread.
Looking for carbon bottle holders from AliX.
There are a million and one vendors with almost as many designs.
A lot of them look crap, and a bunch are probably counterfeit (lots on Bontrager on there)
Any recommendations?
-
I got 4 of these Bontrager reps, and can't complain.

-
Same as above, I've 4 of those bontragor copies, perfect and lightweight.
-
Thanks guys! I already have these in my "maybe" cart
-
I have a few of the Bontrager clones from riderace as well. Not much time on the riderace ones so not sure on their quality but they seem to be on par with the Bontrager clones I got a few years back. All still holding strong.

Bought some of the ultra light Bontrager clones from Taobao last week and they were horrible. Didn't grip the bottles well at all. Ended up staying with my GUB SL cages I got from Taobao last year. (I live in China so can order easily)

Are these the ones you are talking about, for about 100kuai?

OG EVKIN. They seem to be carbon versions of Specialized's Rib Cage holders, which are excellent. Never lost a bottle, and they allow for some side-entry.

Thanks. Which model from OK EVKIN? Do you have a link?

I've used these for a few months now, for road, gravel, and bikepacking. They work great (just like the ones they are inspired by).
-
No issues with cracking, ejected or scratched bottles with these (unlabeled) glossy 3k Arundel knockoffs 18 months in.

I've got bontrager copy versions too, 2 were fine (and still are after 5 years). The others broke on first use. Hard to "see" which is which quality wise.

Those are it, stiff and light with that little lip to retain the bottle in it.
You can find them cheaper. Just search GUB on Taobao and more will come up.

I use the OG Evkin too, never lost a bottle either.
In my experience the Bontrager type of cages, and many others from Ali, loose bottles on cobbles or other rough pavement.
-
I ended up going with the Riderace ones. The OG EVKIN look quality, but when it comes to non-critical parts, I don't mind cheaping out a bit.
Let's hope I don't regret it!
