Metal Frames / Re: Custom Waltly Titanium 29er
« on: June 15, 2020, 01:17:44 PM »
@bxcc, your twin top tube design reminded me of actually wanting Waltly (thru Carbon Speed) to make a Ti version of the Commencal Acid (see photo). But Waltly's reply was they couldn't do it at that time, they would have to build a new mold (or something) and it would be very expensive. I wonder if it's doable now.

@bxcc, the free laser etched logo was way before. They now charge for it, iirc, rate depends on size & number of logos/name. So for my second frame, I didn't go for any  anymore. The rate of the frame had also gone up since my first one.

Did you ask them to make it especially light ?

You can specify the tube diameter size and tube thickness. Their default tube thickness is 0.9mm. They will comply but that is at your own risk. I did specify tube diameter on my first one but I let them have their way on the second one. I didn't bother with tube thickness on both though.

The first frame was 1.935kg including the brake/TA brackets. So I'm expecting the 29er to be a tad over 2kg.

I'm expecting my 2nd Waltly Ti bike frame to arrive this week. And Amy was also the staff that worked with me on this one. It is a 29er as well. I've fiddled with chain tensioner before on a single speed setup and isn't to keen with it but not wanting to spend for an Eccentric BB I went with a sliding horizontal dropout on my first one. Love it and still went with it on this one.

I'm currently on my second Waltly Ti bike. My first is this gravel bike.

Got the second one into production just before the COVID lockdown on March. It was done and shipped to me early-May but the lockdown had delayed the delivery on the local end. I am expecting it to arrive any day this week though. What is it? Well, it is a 29er hard tail. Geometry was based on the Niner S.I.R. 9. With a modified dropout. I loved what I did with the first gravel bike using a horizontal sliding dropout, so the second one also had that. With the 29er coming, I plan to setup the gravel bike as a single speeder... I kind'a learned to love the simplicity of an SS during the lockdown. Pretty much rode the Haro Projekt 2016 fixed/free bike around the subdivision daily during the lockdown. Sold the Projekt as soon as we improved from ECQ to GCQ. This new 29er will be my geared bike. The only difference my 29er Ti frame from the Niner S.I.R. is internal cabling, sliding dropout and boost hub spacing.

Below are photos of the 29er.

After The Ride / Re: What's new?
« on: March 19, 2020, 03:01:55 PM »
Last Sunday (March 15), I was able to ride around my favorite cycling route at Samal Island. I kind'a know it'll be a while before I'll get to visit it again. And sure enough about a couple of hours after I got home, the announcement for a month-long city-wide lockdown in connection with Corona Virus was annouced. I'd still be able to ride the bike around the city but won't be able to visit the island.

@Carbonanza, it's more. The representative I'm dealing with was pretty good with her English. Not as good as Peter but still good. But she's obviously not a technical person. I requested for threaded BSA bb for Shimano mtb crankset and she doesn't know what standard it was. I had to be very detailed with what I wanted and also found myself repeating some details that were already previously mentioned. I initially wanted a plus bike but it us 2 design prints & a dozen emails before they told me they couldn't build it. So I opted for a regular 29er. In fairness, she is handling several clients and had been very polite. Also in the later part, she did showed initiative to actually check the actual bike that I've patterned my geometry on and was able to point out some discrepancy with my data. And request confirmation & corrections. Peter would have just auto-correct it, then inform me of the correction and save us time. Although, I understood why Waltly had to be very specific. Besides, based on my research, it seems normal that it takes a lot of emails and time with Waltly. But the results are often very satisfactory, so I'm not really worried.

With Peter leaving the bike industry, I have opted to go custom titanium 29er frame. Some of you know I had my first titanium frame made by Waltly but thru Peter. I sure missed Peter's services, we only had under a dozen emails within a week and the frame was built. Now, I'm on 20 something emails, approaching week 3 and we're still not done with design.

Isn't Planet X a British bike company? The one making On-One bikes?

29er / Re: Xmcarbonspeed CS-057 cracking
« on: January 18, 2020, 10:30:42 PM »
While waiting for the replacement frame.
I did buy a cold chemical weld and glued everything back, the best I could.
The frame is still there in the garage, and did work without issue until the replacement.

I agree with Carbonazza, Pressfit is a better option then an aluminum shell. I've also had the same issue (not CarbonSpeed frame) and fixed it with epoxy. No creaking since then.

Hey guys, may I know what cold chemical weld or epoxy did you used?

My CS-496 just suffered the same fate. Although still a mild crack but it creaks pretty much on every climb (even those not so steep) and sprints. And it's gonna take me a while to get a replacement, so I'm looking to just extend it's service a little long.

@Ray Lee, which size fork did you get? And how was it (construction, bolts spacing, weight, other observation)?

Interesting, they actually got 2. A 40mm & a 50mm tire clearance.

Sad to know Peter is leaving this industry. Best of luck in his new endeavors though.

29er / Ecnal Bike Frame
« on: December 07, 2019, 07:37:14 AM »
This is a new Filipino brand (Philippines) but made in China. I don't know if it's designed by Ecnal Cycling Products or a rebranding. I'm trying to know which one. I do know the paint schemes was designed by Ecnal. Not much info about it was released, no geo sheet. As of writting, I only know it comes in both 29er & 27.5er, and in boost & non-boost. A Filipino vlogger said press fit bb and adaptors for QR-TA are included, and that they are Toray 1000. Claimed weight is around 830 grams. They have full-sus (AM & XC) & road but I'm more interested with this HT. Perhaps someone here recognized the frame.

They got several color schemes and I have to say some looked pretty awesome. They are retailing at around US$530 (at the current currency conversion).

Photos from their FB page.

A little update...
Replaced the 1x to a Tiagra 2x chainring set. Loving the increased speed and easier climbs.
