Workswell WCB-R-306 Disc Brake - Who Sells It? Hi all, I'm new as a user but have been reading for a long time. I spent 13-odd years working for a Trek/SBI/Cdale dealer and dove into the china frame journey with both eyes open and a Dremel at the ready.

My first bike was a Workswell R-146 gravel bike (Open UP ish). I love it. I have ridden the crap out of it. I had to dremel in a fresh rear hose entry port as the Open UP style head tube entry ports would pinch the hose with a low stem (used a 2007 Madone brake housing entry port, even tapped the tiny screw in the frame). Also, had to dremel around the bb shell to get a power meter to fit. After sanding out and hammering in my lower headset bearing, it was ready to go with a Campy EPS drivetrain running a 52x36 and an 11-40 cassette. Can get up anything!

I'm now wanting to dabble in disc brake road bikes and found the Workswell WCB-R-306 Disc Brake. I am hunting for something tarmac/emonda/supersix-ish: light, FSA ACR compatible internal routing, and some aero.

My question is: does anyone know who is the retail seller of the 306 frame is? Workswell can't sell it in the USA due to exclusivity clause... I've seen some impressive framespotting here and was wondering if anyone could help me out... or! offer some good alternatives!

Thanks for reading this far; I'll gladly shut up now.

Re: Workswell WCB-R-306 Disc Brake - Who Sells It? I think it is the Blue Chinook G2. Wow that's spendy.

Well, anyone have fun suggestions for alternatives? I have seen the hubbub about the VB-R-168, but am hoping to find a little lighter.

Re: Damn, cracked seat tube. ^If you have a dremel, preference is to grind a hole at the end of the crack; less damage by grinding/sanding carbon.

Was the seatpost super tight/loose when you installed it? Like the other reply, were you really reefing on it when you shoved it down?

Sorry for the bad luck!

Re: Damn, cracked seat tube. I realize this is a non answer to you question of “how big of a hole do I drill” but it should not be small. Too small and you just have a good starting point for a new crack. Recall your metal frames of way back when- you’d often see a slit at the seatpost clamp, and the hole below it would be larger than the width of the slit.

Hope that at least helps?

Say, less than 1 cm diameter more than 3 mm diameter? I say go for 5??

Re: Damn, cracked seat tube.
Yeah, it's suuuuper tight. I don't even have to clamp it. I was as careful as I could be with it but it took more force than I've ever experienced on a new frame to try to seat it and then try to extract it. How big a hole would I have to grind/drill? I've been watching plenty of Youtube videos on carbon repair and feel like it's something I could do. I've read where people have drilled, or suggested drilling to stop propagation, but I haven't actually seen it done on CF.

The only thing that really concerns me about this crack is it's proximity to the seat stay. Otherwise, the seat post is so low, I can't see there being much leverage to do too much more damage given the length of the seat post below the crack and how much my daughter weighs.

If you want to nerd out get a few good measurements of ID from a good set of calipers and see what the seat tube measures out at. I had a lower headset bearing on a Workswell frame that I once had to sand/hammer into place… one of those things, I guess…(The frame was not the right dimension not the bearing!)

If you go to China Freight and pick up the right size flex hone, that could work too. Just be careful and test fit often!!

Re: Damn, cracked seat tube.

If drilling a hole in the frame is a scary thought, using a flex hone on the seat tube is terrifying.  :-[

Yup! I have never ever done a flex honing of a carbon frame- I could see how it might be approached but I agree- terrifying!

Ooh! Track down your local Campy Guy Who Has All Of The Campy Tools And Will Die With Them and see if he also collected a seat tube ream and just get medieval with it  :P

THAT would be a terrific page-turner of a post to see how that works out! Mad bike scientist!

Re: Damn, cracked seat tube. FHS, on a serious and hopefully actually helpful note, I highly highly recommend hopping on ebamazon and picking up a digital caliper. The Park tool ones are just fine. (Or get some swanky Mitutoyos like I use at work!)

For its utility, the Park Tool calipers are wonderfully useful for the money.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame Well, crap. I ordered a 168 on Tuesday. Even sprung for the paint option. I guess I’ll find out in an indefinite period of time if I get lucky or if they phone this one in too. Such a bummer to see these recent bad experiences and lack of satisfactory resolution(s).

It is my hope that whatever madness awaits me in a box in 4-13 weeks is solvable with a Dremel. Maybe creative eBay-ing, too, if I’m lucky.

In other news, built up another set of Light Bicycle rims. This time for an Ekar build. Had some Bitex straight pull hubs for some AR28s and they built up to 1311 grams for the set. I really love how far LB has come in the last 10 years or so. And, I’ve never been disappointed!

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame
keep us posted on how it's going

@planet_sammy @braincore @hazzer19

Many thanks for the offers, very very grateful! I wanted to cancel my order as I had a change of direction in my head but it took a few days for the reply to come through, Chris said the frame was already painted, then a week later I asked him for photos, several days went by and finally got the photos. I would have preferred to cancel the order... I'll see how the frame comes out in person and I may just wind up seeing if anyone here wants to take it off my hands?

Did they do a good job of supplying the little frame bits for entry/exit ports and for different drivetrains like mechanical vs electronic? Has anyone slapped a real FSA ACR headset on one of these? How good are the bearing seats in terms of finish?

Thanks guys!!

Attached is the photo of my frame... The lines kinda changed positions from the scheme I selected and the pearl white looks less... white. The silver initially looked more brushed metal and now looks silver too, but hey the point of this bike was to have fun with paint and have a good disc brake road bike. Size is S 52 cm.

Re: My experience with Velobuild wheels and requesting after sales support. I have an order with VB and I have really not been happy about their inability to directly answer questions. They deflect and delay. I was given a tracking number for my order but no matter what I try, after a week it still does not work. No item found. Velo Build insists the frame has been shipped and the number is correct.

I have purchased from Workswell before and Light Bicycle. They are far, far better to deal with.
