Title: Brakepads: 256SL XTR brakes
Post by: Jake on July 18, 2015, 06:16:02 AM
I have xtr race brakes on my 256SL with 160 Ashima rotors.
This is what happens to my brakepads in the back:(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/49827950/brakepads.jpg)
I measured my rotors and they are 160 mm , what can I do about this?

Are your calipers flush mounted to the posts or do you have washers/spacer between?  If so remove spacers, if not, you won't be able to do much about that.

I have a med 256SL with XTR M9000 with 160mm Ashima rotors and my pads wear evenly.

As 325racer said, remove spacer under the calipre mount if you have any. I'm guessing that's not the problem. In which case, this is a bizzare problem to have.

What size frame? Maybe there's a manurfacturing error on the caliper mount on your frame? Can you measure the distance between the calipre mount surface and axle center?

What axle are you running? 142x12mm thru or 135QR?

Some possible fixes:

Change dropout / RD hanger to move axle further from calpire mounting surface.

Contact iPlay for recommendations.

Chnage to 180mm rear rotor and add appropriate spacer under calipre.

I had the same issue.
So I took a flat file and shaved a few mm on each post mount pods.

However I would never do this again.
It was a real pain to align them back.

Instead I would go to my LBS, either to borrow a Park tool DT-4 or to do it for me.

I have a 19" 256 with 142x12mm thru axle and I have no spacers under the caliper.
I already used a flat file very lightly just to flatten the post mount pods...

I don't have an LBS but I guess this tool is too expensive to buy for single use...

I could go to a 180 rotor and sand down the adapter, not as risky as filing the frame.

XTR race brakes with Ashima rotors on my wife's bike, and not seeing that happen. Looks like the brake mounts are slightly out of spec, so I think the Park tool mentioned by Carbonazza would be a good idea.

Also gotta say, from a photography perspective, the shallow depth of field and the patterns on the red background that are similar to the fingerprint makes for a pretty cool photo. :D

I'm running XT brakes with Ashima Ai2's. I checked my pads and they are wearing pretty even. That facing tool from Park seems like the best way...if you can find a shop that has one.  :o
