Title: Straight head tube?
Post by: nick_n_ii on September 19, 2015, 09:32:56 PM
Figure I'll ask first.

Who makes a 29er HT or FS that uses the straight 1 1/8 head tube? I already have forks for this size (100mm travel).

As I know, no one in China manufactures frames with straight 1-1/8'' head tube.  You can order the frame with tapered 1-1/8''  -  1-1/2''  head tube, you just need an adaptor bearing that convert your straight fork to tapered version.

I did not know there was a adapter bearing I could get. I might be in the market for a new frame sooner than later.

Maybe you need something like this:

Cane Creek uses the same lower cup and bearing (whatever size fits the frame) whether you have a tapered steerer or a straight one. The only difference is the lower race. I actually have a spare one that I used briefly with a straight steerer and 1.5" head tube until the new fork came in a month or so later. They are around $12 if I recall correctly.

Cool, thanks all for the help on this.

I was having issues fitting new fork cost into my build plan. This will make it alot easier now.
