While I'm extremely sceptical you were actually able to percieve a difference that wasn't placebo, these have much larger bearings than is usual even for OSPWs (excluding the shitty absolute black one). That means there is more surface area making contact inside the bearing and with the seals, leading to higher friction losses.

Re: Rear wheel that's reasonably quiet -- my new (knockoff?) DT240 wheel is loud Those 240s are definitely fakes, but I doubt the reals ones are much quieter. All ratchet hubs are going to be pretty loud. Maybe if you replace the ratchets with lower tooth count count ones they'd be a bit quieter but I don't have any experience with that.
