I just bought the all carbon set (spokes and hoops) claimed 1260+/- 30g for 775$ shipped to the states. $670 for the wheelset and $105 to ship. Not sure if that helps anyone. Leon is awesome to work with over Whatsapp and is very responsive. He sent tracking info on Thursday. Will update once they arrive  :)

Rd13 is not the designation for the hub?
And you write you have the rd28.
Do you have a link?

Ceramic bearings are beautiful and of course run nicer. But not noticeable and the maintenance susceptibility is higher.
Not to mention if a carbon spoke is broken. You do not get so easily replaced.
Therefore, I decide against carbon spokes.

I wish you in any case good trip and fun with the set!

True, RD13 was not listed. I asked for the lightest possible build for the best price. Leon suggested this, I asked if he could remove the ceramic bearings and use steel (I'm not a big believer in ceramic), he said that these hubs were made for them, so worst case scenario, I put steel bearings in after they deteroriate. Also carbon spokes are new to me, it'll be a learning experience. I have never had a regular spoke brake or fail. We shall find out together if this was a good decision or not  ;D

It appears the carbon spokes require a special hub. This is what I found on it:

It is https://www.yuananbike.com/

You can contact manager Leon directly on WhatsApp +86 157 3827 4372 or emial sales@yuanbike.com

The guy is very responsive and can help you build a custom wheel or choose something from their offering. You can tell him Jakub send You and he will give you a discount.

I sent an email to Leon, hopefully they can make it happen. Not sure if they carry the 711/712s, but I asked.

I build almost all of my wheels myself and you can indeed build a set for 350-400 EUR that is 1100-1200gr.
I am having trouble buying the Novatec 411-412 hubs from Ali (seems like every seller uses these as some sort of scam...) and they are too expensive to buy in the EU (>200 EUR).
I have now ordered a set of Goldix R180 hubs to build my next MTB wheelset. I hope they have upgraded the ratchet mechanism because I was hesitant to buy Goldix hubs until now because of all the bad reviews...
You can get the Novatec 791-792 hubs very cheap on ali if you wait for the sales. Than you have a 1200 gr wheelset for a little over 300 eur.

Which hoops and spokes are you using?
I was looking on Ali for 711/712, but the all seem to be QR. The closest I could find that fit my needs are Novatec D791SB-CL D792SB-CL. $61.36 USD A pair which seems pretty good. Claimed weight 407g

I personally have been really interested in the GRO2 wheels / rims from Yuan An Composites. The complete wheels with the RD13 hubs are just outside your budget but at 1450g, 45mm deep and a modern 32mm wide they check a lot of boxes for me as an allrounder.

This is the first I've heard of Yuan An Composites. Do they have a pretty good reputation?

I actually have a damaged wheelset, my own fault, that I purchased from Wing at Carbonda. The hoops are destroyed but the DT350 hubs and spokes are decent. The problem is Wing said the hoops weren't available any more. The other thing is that they are 28 hole hubs and the road rim selection for those appear to be pretty slim. I'd love for these hubs to see more life as they probably only have 10k miles on them. Anyone know of any good 28H hoops that don't cost a fortune to get over?

I built up a set of 30mm deep wheels for about 400USD. It weighs around 1120g. I can't quite give a verdict yet as I don't have many kilometres on it yet. So if you're willing to source some lesser known parts from ali, you can build something pretty light for pretty cheap.

Did you build them yourself? I haven't made it down that avenue yet, but I'd love to. I started building a diy truing stand a while back. Now might be the time.

Hello Chinertown!

I've been scouring Ali/eBay for a decently light/shallow, disc, thru-axle wheelset for my climbing build and was wondering if there was any experience here? Is it possible to find a good set for $500ish USD delivered?
My current interests are these:

Are there other brands out there that have been proven in the streets that I may be missing?

Can't find a picture of my frame on a scale.
Apparent the  S-Works is... 585g   :o

Dang. I didn't realize how much lighter the S-Works was. I thought ~970 was pretty light.

Has to be the same Adam, which is probably a nickname anyway.
How come the frameset is more expensive though? Going through Carbonda a 696 is 480USD

My 696 was $480 when I bought it a few years back. This frame that I am referencing in this post is an FM906-D, which also has a regular version and a "light weight" version. The non light weight version was $490 and the light weight version was $590.

I attached my Adam's initial response back from 2022; the only difference is the shipping cost came down some.

Wing has the same kind of fba email.

Damn! This is the frame I wanted about 2 years ago, and could only get if I did order... 30 of them. Resulting in a very expensive Aethos buy instead  ::)

Do you know how the weights are on the Aethos compared to this frame?

I wonder if that's the same Adam at Carbonda?

Good to hear that other frames from the flybike catalog are available.

I've only ever dealt with Wing at Carbonda, but looking over the initial email again, this is the "from" box:

Some more photos. Unboxed, uno stem cleansing, rough mock up with some busted parts. I did record a video, but I hate editing so it may be a while.
Currently waiting on my bottom bracket and handle bars. I had this old set of 105 shifters/brakes laying around, but the build is so nice I kind of want to find an upgrade. I might sell off some parts and try get an Ultegra hydro set.
