Closest fit currently is actually a Fat Frame.  Cs-001 from Carbon Speed http://xmcarbonspeed.com/Productinfo.asp?f=1402

I was looking for a plus frame for my father,  something similar to Sanata Cruz Hightower, Rocky Mtn Pipeline.  He ended up finding a Hightower on sale, it's an awesome bike to ride.

If he hadn't found the Santa Cruz on sale, probably would have built a CS-001 as a 27.5+.

Sounds very similar to either the Santa Cruz Hightower 27.5+ or the Rocky Mt Pipeline.  I've ridden bot and would say almost the same about both.

Ps.  What length dropper post is that?  I'm liking to trade a 150, 31.6 reverb stealth for a 125, 31.6 reverb stealth for my dad's Hightower.

I have not installed one myself, I don't have any bikes with terrible BB30/92, etc, all mine are proper thread in!!!

I've been listening to bunch of Mtn Bike Radio Podcast during work lately and several different once have talked about Staches and the creeky bottom bracket.  They say to remove the standard one, throw it away and install one of this threaded type.  Maybe not Wheels specifically, but that was the only one I saw listing BB92, the Praxis listed BB30.

I also rode the Rocky Mtn Pipeline, and really liked it also.  To me, very similar ride to the Hightower.

These were the two bikes I was trying to find a Chiner to match up to.

Problem is both of these are 150F/135r and 150F/130R, with 67deg head angles, Boost, etc.  Very hard to find something similar in Chiner options.

What did you not like about the Hightower?  We felt that it had great fit, rode over stuff like a freight train.  Pedals well, nice and plush and with 150/135 travel and 27.5+ tires can go over anything...

Soooo, as mentioned previously I've been helping my father find a new bike.  I was pushing him towards 27.5+, he finally demoed an Ellsworth Epiphany + Alloy (carbon is different geometry all together).  He really liked the tires, but kept coming back to liking my Santa Cruz Tall boy LT, so after a ride yesterday morning we went to look at the Santa Cruz Hightower.

Well, within 50 feet in the parking lot it was decided that was the bike.  They were doing 20% off, so the Hightower C, was $3600 instead of $4600.  He ended up with an XL, vs large which I would have thought.

Not sure what route we will go, he's been demoing a bunch of bikes locally.  He tested an Intense Spider 27.5, a Commercial 27.5 short travel (120mm) (they are a French direct to consumer brand with US headquarters about 10 min from my house), a Haro 27.5 (also local) and this weekend has anot Ellsworth Epiphany plus, again local!!!

So we'll see what kind of bike he's liking and decide from ther.e

Take a closer look at the cs-001, it's  a fatty, but the geometry looks the closest to the main stream plus full suspension bikes.  Hightower, Pipeline, ellsworth Epiphany + ( which my father is demoing this weekend).

If we go the China carbon route for him, it will be theasier CS-001 frame, built as a 27.5+.

29er / Re: CS-057 Trail-XC Race Build - Budget Build
« on: July 02, 2016, 06:38:56 PM »
Sooooooo, looking closer at your photos, I question if that's actually an 057 frame.  Most of it looks right, but the seat stay to seat tube junction isn't 057 design.  It's a little bit 256 or 529ish.

Unless that is just 21" only design, my 19" has a much shorter junction as seen in this picture.  I also think the 057 seat stays are a little thicker than yours.

Interesting, I think the fat bikes there are due to winter and Surly being local.  I visited in-laws in Savage last fall, the only rental bike I could find was a fat.  I rode Murphy Hanrahan,  the river trail that's in protest over being paved and Elm Creek.

While the fat was fun on some rock and log features, and rigid 057 would be soooo much faster and easier to accelerate out of many of the tighter corners.   I would not want more than 760 bars there, I think the rental had 780 and I hit a couple trees with them.

First, good luck with the build, second, plan for the overall build to be about 1 lb heavier than you think and be happy if it's not.  Nearly every part on build came in a little above advertised, all adding up to nearly a pound.

Second, I'm running a full rigid 057 and ride a lot of trails people are surprised to see a full rigid on.  I'm running XT 180 front, 160 rear with Hope 2 piece rotors, I wanted to blingy anodized red center to match the rest of my build.  Have never had any trouble with not enough brake force or modulation for me.

I run a 700mm wide riser bar with 70mm stem on the 057, but recently went to an 800!!!  with 50mm stem on my TallBoy LT.  I really like the wide bars, the bar and stem transformed the bike, especially on downhill.  Not sure I would ever go that wide on the 057, but maybe out to 720.  I'd probably pick up a 750ish bar, that could be cut down to 720 if needed.

Component Deals & Selection / Bretix pricing XT Groupsets
« on: June 24, 2016, 06:56:18 PM »
Soooooo, decided I'd take a look and see if there were any deals to be had.

Best thing I could find is at Merlin Cycles, an XT M800 1x11 Groupset including brakes can be had for $475 with free shipping.  It shows as $528, then another $10 off.  Not sure this is a huge deal, but if your shopping, might be worth taking a look.
