Color is just UD glossy.

Looks great (even without the decals), thanks for the insights!

Also very interesting that the seatpost fits! Makes me think that they bought legit frames and 3D-scanned them or stole the original cad-files from the legit specialized OEM. (and not just remodel the frame by looking at the geometry chart and pictures...)
But the non-matching front caliper mount makes me think otherwise again...

Would be interesting to see a comparison of all the tube shapes of the clone and the real SL8  :o

Great and spicy topic :D

Do the replica frames also come with all the accessories and hardware? e.g di2 battery mount, as the seatpost is to narrow to fit the di2 battery. Or is the seatpost sightly wider than the original?

Would also be great to know if the seatpost is compatible. On most (if not all) SL7 clones, the original seatpost would not fit.

Agreed.

Then maybe the Winowsports WR054? Its a heavy chonker but more race-ish and aero.

The new Longteng RD301-D frame seems to be UDH as well. Maybe not as light as the Speeder tho

I found that my steerer internal diameter is only approximately Ø22,3-22,6mm - too small for the Deda 70mm expander to fit (requiring >23,5mm). Seems like most readily available alternatives require >23-23,5mm. Anyone else have experience with this? Perhaps the steerer has an inconsistent thickness, will figure out as I cut it down.

I had a same issue with the deda Expander plug on my 168.
Took off quite a bit of material of the lower part of the expander (and also from the diameter of the upper part, to make sure it could sit flush with the steerer tube). Just took a few minutes of sanding. If you dont have a lathe, use a bolt and chuck those parts in a drill and then sand them to spec.
And i also used that rough clamping tube of the expander to ghetto-ream the steerer tube.

But once it fut

With my personal experience, I would stay away from 'replica' frames. 5 years ago I had a Fasterway (Factor) O2 frame. The paint quality was superb and identical to Factor. However, the ride quality was not the best. For instance it was not the stiffest, but what frightened me the most was the way the frame broke (top tube and headtube) after hitting a curb to hard. Luckily it was not fatal, but it tells me that those frames are not build well.
On the other hand, I hear a lot of flaws from real Factor frames as well.
Have a look at the Longteng RD301-D frame. They have a factor inspired frame in which I would have more confidence. https://chinertown.com/index.php/topic,4792.0.html

Do you have pictures of the broken frame? Was the layup particulary bad or thin?

I sometimes think about getting an unbranded fake-frame to evaluate the quality, just for the sake of finding out if all the horror stories about fake frames are true. but your experience might be proof that we all should stay away from those :D

i'm pretty sure any cockpit from aliexpress will provide you with the right spacers. I bought 4 sets of T1000 (allegedly) from Airwolf, they cost 110-130eur via aliexpress, and they came with plastic everything to interface between the headset bearing and the cockpit.
You might have issues with the gap between the frame and the plastic thing that sits on top of the frame, but when it's plastic, i find that the compression does wonders. I do have a 3d printer for when i need to make a shim so that the plastic doesnt rub on the frame.

Sorry for offtopic, which frame is this?

1500 for frame alone is a lot. because that fork looks ginormous so it will weigh a lot as well.
will probably be amazing at 300W in a straight line though.

Fork and Seatpost weights are also listed (See attached pics).

It's a chonker.

Hey... about that front derailleur port. When you route, do you end the cable housing with a cap inside the frame, on the little included port, or did you have another section of housing from port to derailleur?  Seems like such an odd design choose to make the cable make the 90 deg turn in the housing, then end the housing just for the straight portion. I'm tempted to simply run the housing the whole way and just add a gromit. not sure how it would work out though.

For those mechanical shimano front derailleurs, its always best to have the cable housing routed all the way to the FD. So I would not recommend to use the grommet that VB supplied and rather find another grommet. Or you could drill out the VB grommet so that the cable housing would fit through

But for best FD shifting, always run the outer cable to the FD.

As an SL8 owner, I am very tempted to buy one just to compare  ;D
Although VeloBuild's VB-268 feels nothing like a Tarmac.

Do it! :D Would be very controversial, but also really interesting  8)

My friend bought it. Frame received in splendid condition and now waiting for assembly and test ride.

Great, would love to read a post about that with pictures ;)

All those so called premium Chinese Bike is so expensive yet the weight is not as per advertised. I do prefer buying a counterfeit SL8 with weight of 730gm after measured.

Do you have experience with the replica SL8? I saw that airwolf actually sells one on their website (besides the numerous listings from different sellers on Ali). Weight/price seems very good, but they might be lacking stiffness...

Thank you RoadieMKD for reply.

I've contacted Elitewheels via Aliexpress app and they said if i use "Sellers Shiping method" (pay more 75,98€) then i will not pay VAT and also the delivery is faster. Yes, i have a discount code that will save 120$ on orders over 599$, so in total i'll pay 505,3$ for this 65mm wheelset (aniversary discont sale included).

About tires.. Rear i use 28mm tire, in front i have 25mm, continental gp5000 (not tubeless, i'll use RideNow TPU superlight innertubes). This Elite Edge rim width is 28mm, can i use my 25mm tire on this rim with no problems?

25mm GP5000 non TL works perfect on the edge rims. It measures 27.4mm on that rim (which would be perfered aero-wise compared to the 28mm, which might measure closer to 30 and bulge out on the rim)

mounting the GP5000 25mm is also no problem. No need for tire lever when mounting and removing (I also use TPU tubes)

Good question.
I would also add Thinkrider to that list, as they often sell very cheap in the "3 for 4.99$" section.

However, my personal experience is limited to the old Ridenow 36g (black valve stem) and they were flawless. With the 19g Ridenow (transparent valve stem), I had one flat, but that would have been a flat with any tube.
