29er / Updated Bxt MTB 056?
« on: October 25, 2024, 12:19:11 AM »
Was recently scrolling through AliExpress for a UDH frame and came across this.

https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256807332074614.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.main.41.1652NXywNXywj8&algo_pvid=92caf5e1-7b9d-4ffa-a69d-1922eb677f9c&algo_exp_id=92caf5e1-7b9d-4ffa-a69d-1922eb677f9c-20&pdp_npi=4%40dis%21USD%21598.00%21298.98%21%21%21598.00%21298.98%21%402103237317298333195204415e46f5%2112000041102920358%21sea%21US%210%21ABX&curPageLogUid=arBe7z6Lv49y&utparam-url=scene%3Asearch%7Cquery_from%3A

It looks like Bxt updated the MTB 056 with headset cable routing, a UDH hanger, and a t47 bb. I’m just wondering if anyone has had any experience with the new version of the frame (I’ve heard about a couple of people who have cracked the older models)?

I actually have one of these forks (or at least it looks the same). I bought it from elita one a few years back on sale. The quality of the fork was half decent.

My issues where: the post mount for the brake was not compleated flat (needed to be faced), the through axle was super heavy, and the fork had somewhat limited tire clearance (2.3 if I remember).

The 480mm should be fine since the 26mm is supposed to correct for the sag of the fork.

There was also that whole thread about the AWST/Airwolf knockoff of the Specialized Epic Wold Cup.

But I am not sure if anyone on the forums has actually bought one of the frames or if it is even possible to source one of sidlux wc shocks aftermarket. So you may be stuck with what ever the thing is that they give you in the box which kind of defeats the purpose of the bike.

I get confused, is boost 52 or 55 chainline?

Boost is 52mm chainline (3mm offset)

A lot of modern frames that have a UDH have boost and a 55mm chainline (0mm offset).

Wolf tooth has a pretty handy guide to chainlines on their webpage as well (there is a table halfway down the page).
https://www.wolftoothcomponents.com/products/direct-mount-chainrings-for-sram-cranks?srsltid=AfmBOoriLY6NTdsP6xWm-agGHPAyWjNq_bWk_Am9fS1rh3oInzgTIGE2

But honestly from my experience getting the chainline wrong is only really going to cause issues with either chainring clearance (contact with the frame) or higher chain wear (replacing chains more often).

Also just as a word of advice, you may also want to buy a bottom bracket tool to install the cranks or have someone install the cranks for you. I’m not sure what bb you currently have, but the evosid bb that comes in the kit uses the Shimano MTB pattern.

Do you know what is the chainline on the cranks?

If I remember they are the 3mm offset (i.e.boost).

Only frames I can think of off the top of my head is the Carbonda FM1001 (trail 135mm) or FM 1002 (150mm AM). Both of them are pretty good and come with a UDH.

I personally have a 1002, and it’s been pretty good to me. But they are a bit on the more expensive side for an open mold frame (last I heard was around 900 with shipping to US).

There’s a pretty extensive discussion on these frame here.

29er / Re: Travel 120mm Carbon Hardtail Frame
« on: August 24, 2024, 11:46:50 AM »
Another underserved market that could be interesting is the light trail hardtail market (120-130mm travel). A lot of the big bike brands have gone all in on full suspension downcountry bikes, so there are very few of these carbon bikes that actually have a “modern” geometry (e.g. hta~66.5, sta >75).

Off the top of my head, I can only think of two carbon light trail hardtails:

Yeti Arc
Ibis DV9

The caveat to this is that these bikes need to have wider tires (29x2.6) which compromises the max size of the chainring.

I think that you might have the wrong chainring offset for the current frame.

From my knowledge a 55mm chainline needs a 0mm offset chainring or a couple crankset spacers. So using a 3mm offset chainring might be what is causing your shifting issues and interference with the chain stays.

Wolf tooth has a pretty good article about 55mm offset below.

Out of curiosity, but has anyone ever tried to use an imperial 7.5" x 2.0" shock in one of these epic frames?

In theory this shock would fit. Since converted to metric the shock would have an eye to eye of 190.5mm with a travel of 50.8mm. This would theoretically result in a frame travel of around 96mm according to leverage ratio calculated by "ilyamksimov" back in post 76.
