Re: Recommendations for a carbon saddle? i have the selle italia slr tekno flo knockoff and i have just bought another selle italia knockoff, both 140-160g. the slr tekno flo is 147mm wide and is meant for a moderate to large flexibility. you cant lack the flexibility because the thing curves down pretty severely so youd be uncomfortable if you're a bigger guy.
whats weird about it is that its the same discomfort from minute 1 thru hour 4, its uncomfortable but not painful, ive been into cycling for 4 months so it can just be im not used to a saddle but the pain is consistent, there isnt a drop off of comfort at some point

Re: Any chinese road bike electronic groupset coming soon? Yeah he said shifting wasnt crisp. You also may $400 for a rd and a brifter. A force rd is $300 warranted but chinese electronic groupsets are probably years from being perfect. Best to go with rival if youre on a budget

Re: So I went ahead and purchased a chinese venge Did you get to measure the frame weight? If you can tell us, whats the overall weight? Can we see a breakdown?

Re: Chipped my chain stay, thoughts? Im not an expert but given its matte, i dont think theres any “paint” to chip so youre looking at a carbon chip.

It either looks like scratches or you tore through the first layer. Iirc someone on reddit said the bottom bracket is the most reinforced area (which makes sense) so chances are thats cosmetic due to the high layup in the bb area. If yoy want to still ride with it, inspect it after every ride or so and see if theres any growth of cracks or anything, if not, apply nail polish and or uv protectant.

Re: Frame suggestion Farsports, yoeleo, ican, light carbon are all good choices for wheels.

As for frames, people have had issues about dishonesty with tantan in the past through their aliexpress store but youre probably fine if you go on their website. Workswell, for disc brakes, people have also had poor disc lineup but those that have bought from them seem to really like the frame if everythings fine. Carbondas a good choice too.

Speaking quality assurance and customer support, didnt look at geo.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame
i build frame size 58
sram force etap disc
wheels from velobuild
http://www.velobuild.com/products/road-amp-cyclocross-wheelset-disc-brake-carbon-deep-38mm-width-23-25mm

total 18.5 lbs or 8.4 kg

I have an r12 with 50mm 28/28 at about that weight. 19.2 with pedals.

Why are we so heavy? The only upgrades i can think of is a lighter wheelset and get red. Udi2 you save like 50-100 grams. How much difference does a tire set give you? 100 grams?

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame
Is the seat tube that fragile? You're referring to the bike stand clamp, right? Is it a convention not to? It's a rubber grip.

Just weighed it with everything but the bottle cage holders and it's exactly 19.0 lbs. Not as light as I had hoped, but I'm on a full 105 groupset (including the pedals) and the wheels are 1681g.

While I'm not obsessed with reducing weight, out of curiosity, I've been meaning to do an analysis of what upgrades would have the best ROI for weight reduction. Anyone want to fill me in? How much does ultegra or dura-ace / di2 shave off?

I treat my bikes with care, id assume seat tubes arent meant to be clamped, probably not what the manuf made it for. Rubber definitely probably helps but still, ill always use a seatpost.

Udi2 vs force shaves 100 grams tops. Honestly, if you go with 50mm feder series vs 50mm classics, thats 200 grams saved there. Almost half a lb. a lighter tyre set would save 50-100 probably. Speedplay lookalikes save 100-150 i think.

Problem is you cant get a lightweight AND aero bike, aero bikes from china are always over 1 kg.
Thats all the weight savings i can think of, im assuming you use a cf saddle already.
So if you go with the same depth and swap everything, youre looking at maybe 1-1.5 lb MAX after swapping anything and im so fat that that weight doesnt matter, i just hate seeing my bike on the scale.

Re: various questions about custom build vs brand road bike (cost, issues, warranty) Id recommend having a bike shop cut it, its like $5. Ive learned not to mess with something like that (and front derailleurs). A caledonia 5 with 8020 is $5k-$5500 i think? If you go with dengfu, you can literally buy a complete 8020 bike for $2700 with carbon wheels. Can probably get less with veobuild but outsource the carbon wheels and have to pay more. Most warranties i know if are at least two years so if it takes you longer than two years to complete a build, we got other issues.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame
Good choice ;). That is actually the frame which is on it's way to me. My paint job was put together as follows, I asked Chris to paint the frame as much as possible like:

Which translated to the following mockup made by Chris:

Mine is made up out of two colours: gloss black and gloss green chameleon. The gloss green chameleon is green / purple based on the angle. I had to pay for 4 colours (1 for gloss black, 3 for gloss green chameleon).

im really interested in how this will turn out in comparison! the tone wont be spot on but if its good a normal eye hopefully wouldnt be able to see the difference. Dengfu wont put brand decals on, which im curious why. copyright infringement? theyre a decently sized company so i bet they have more to lose than velobuild for example. Since the paint is never going to be perfect i personally opt for single colors from a name brand frame, its hard for these guys to perfectly replicate one.
