Guys - We need to keep a check on whose ordered and paid.

Can those that have ordered and paid replied on here please?

I'll go back to those on the first page just to confirm the updated details.

Once I know whose ordered and paid, I'll update the first page.

And just to confirm - the payment is required in full. No deposit plus final payment.

:)

I don't think we're committed to anyone yet. I think we go with whoever offers the best value. I believe that is probably Eddy/ Haideli. Price for the frame is the same, but Haideli include headset, bb, axle and seat post clamp. Painting is also much cheaper, $20 vs $70.

No final decision had been made. However, I have had more contact with Miracle than Eddy/Haideli/Top Fire.

I had intended to wait until we had minimum of 30 orders before choosing the manufacturer/re-seller.

However, this option may suit the forum better as Eddy-Haideli is already on here as a member.

I would suggest members make their order direct with Eddy-Haideli and then update this thread with their order.  I will then update the first post.

OK.

RobertRinAustin - Jenny has asked if we're on the same forum and I've confirmed. Somewhat of a pain as I've been faffing with this for a while now but this is good news. I'm sure they communicate on some level. Both said no to individual payments previously.

Miracle have quoted me $540, Top Fire $560. Top Fire have said the frames are different. Both have said the Carbon used is Toray carbon. I also asked about wheels etc and these need 50% payment as well.

So, happy days, bit of a relief to be honest. Who we going with? RobertRinAustin - can you confirm between them if the frames actually are different?

As there is already a sticky for this, I'm happy to edit it for the new terms.

OK, to try and calm some of the very understandable fears on jumping in with this group buy.

I've contacted Miracle, Top Fire and Winnow and only Miracle and Top Fire responded. Both of which wanted 50% upfront.  Top Fire also suggested the frames were not the same.

If an alternative manufacturer is found that will allow individual payments to be made and go into production once 30 orders are received then I'm in on that.  Saves me the hassle for sure.

I've continued down the 50% up front route and decided to go with Miracle as they seemed the most helpful.

I wasn't sure how best to arrange the 50% - I had initially thought I would buy them all and then flog them once they were in the UK. Decided against it for various reasons but wanted to continue with the Group Buy.

As I am not making on the GB, I didn't want the grief of having to pay back paypal payments if the GB didn't work out - hence asking for gift payments - and only asking for money once at least 30 frames were paid for. The actual payment to Mircale is through Alibaba so has there Trade Assurance protection. The difference owed on each frame is paid directly to Miracle and would include paint, accessories and shipping.  If anyone chooses to back out along the way then I'd refund and put that frame back out to those that missed out or I'll have it shipped to the UK and sell it privately.

I don't think he'd mind but I have spoken with Sitar_Ned and this GB thread is now a sticky - although he is not directly backing the GB and has no accountability.

Totally understand folks reluctance to dish out money to someone they don't know. Like I said, once we got to 30+ and I ask for payments, you'll get my personal/work email and home/work address and my facebook profile etc. (I'm a financial adviser and I'd lose my career if the police came knocking) different countries tends not to matter these days with social media and I'm not about to lose what little online presence I have for ripping folk off.

I will go back to both Miracle and Top Fire and see if they will accept payments directly and go into production once 30 payments are received but they'll have the same issues if not all 30 frames are purchased. Trust me, it would suit me if they did.  Just wanted to help out and get this over the line.

I'll edit this post once I have the final details tomorrow. Due to time difference I only get a few hours to chat with Jenny per day.

Not sure but maybe a new thread needs to be started - or make this a sticky?

Can interested members PM me so I get an email notification to add you?

The frames will only go into production if 50% of the cost is paid up front. Miracle don't want individual payments to make up the 50% - if they don't get enough orders they'll have to refund everyone.

I propose to open the GB from the 8th March to 2nd April. We get a new list of members genuinely interested and ready to part with cash. Each member will then get a number between 1 and 30/50 and choose a size.

After 2nd April, members get 7 days to pay me. As I've said before I don't really want the risk of charge backs for frame defects that aren't my fault. However, if this proves too big a stumbling block then Paypal fees will have to be added.

I will make it a requirement of the deal that members can contact Jenny to confirm the deal is genuine etc.  Any contract info or any account details from when I make the payment can all be provided to members via PM.

If everything is successful, I'll make the payment for 50% of the value of the frames on 9th April. It will be paid via trade assurance on Alibaba so this is protected. Trade assurance is 2% - this will be priced into the per frame price - also only on 50% of the total as the remainder is being paid individually by paypal.  If for any reason the frames don't appear, I will arrange the refund through Alibaba and refund everyone. Again, all money movement info can be sent via PM if required.

If on 8th April there is not enough member in the GB or some members don't pay, I'll make the decision whether to junk the idea and refund members or carry on with it and I'll buy the remaining frames.

60/70 days later the frames are ready. Each member of the GB then makes their final 50% payment for the frame via paypal and choose colour which is $70 and can't be negotiated as it's not Miracle that does the painting. Painting is up to 15 days - this was what I was quoted but was on 50 frames being painted.

I will ask tomorrow but I'm sure if members want to add wheels etc, this will be the time to make that choice.

Shipping will also need to be paid at this point direct from Miracle to your door. They quoted me, using WXY shipping, $280 per box of two into the UK but this is with all duties paid - it is likely to be different depending on location.  I got a TanTan GR040 delivered via WXY and had no problems other than it took a while and no additional taxes were paid.

So, I'm at a stage where the group buy goes ahead, I buy them all myself and roll the dice or knock this on the head.

However, can we still get the GB up and running?

I can pay up front the first 50%. This will be via Alibaba so my payment is protected.

I'm hoping to get agreement that the remaining 50% can be paid by individual buyers with paint and shipping on top.

The frames go direct to buyers. There is two frames to a carton so would be helpful if buyers can double up????

From the first 50%, I'd need payment from those on the group buy before the frames are ready for paint. Approximately 60 days. My only proviso is the payment is made as PayPal gift. Once shipped its not my liability if the frame is faulty. If things go wrong, or frames don't appear after say 90 days, then money is refunded. That element of risk is up to you. I use same username for everything and you can find me on Faceache.

Once the frames are ready for paint, the remaining 50% is paid by each member together with paint and shipping costs.

If not all frames are bought, I'll buy them and sell them on from the UK. I had initially planned to do this with all the frames. If no one is interested at all, I may do this anyway.

I've suggest 12 Small, 20 Medium, 12 Large and 6 XLarge. In these amounts as I initially chose 6 colours (keeping two frames myself)

Had a chat with Jenny this morning.

Lead time quoted as 60-70 days.

She said cost of carbon gone up so USD 550 for 30. USD499 for 50.

Shipping to individual group buy member. Shipping would be in top.

Pantone colours available but cost on top.

Payment - this is where it may fall down. Because they don't know how many will actually order they want one payment.

Payment would be made through Alibaba. I'll need to check things like protection etc.

I'm in UK so USD550 is £400. That's £12000 before shipping and paint. I could buy 10 of small, medium, large and have shipped to me but then costs on top to ship to members.

This would be unpainted as they'd be on a first come first served basis. Also, I'm not taking responsibility if the frame has a defect. Going down the route of taking on responsibility, I'd have to sell close to individual price to cover frame issues/delivery issues. Probably closer to £600 each plus shipping unpainted. Yes, I'd make on them but the whole thing is likely to be a massive ball ache  :)

I don't mind arranging and taking payments off individuals. Can do colours then. You'd get all my contact details and anything else that might be needed to track me down if I take all your money and buy a speed boat or something. That risk is up to you. But I'll collect, pay and arrange shipping etc if that is what everyone wants.

Said I'd go back to her next 7-10 days. Thoughts?

Personally, as long as the order can be confirmed that a shipping date will be around May of this year then I'm happy to stay in the GB.

I would have thought any discount would still be worthwhile.

I'd go back and ask for $600 each for this group buy - given the possibility that it could be over 50pcs.  Plus shipping and paint etc. I got quoted $750 for a Carbonda Fm1001 so still a fairly decent price.  $100 more is about £70. Not the end of the world.

At worse, it's a no and either carry on at $630 or bin it off and it's individual purchases as $680.

Only update I have is that the frame seems to have got stuck during the "Last mile" delivery phase.

Hasn't moved since 5th Jan.

Got the mech etc. All AliExpress parts. I do know I need a different BB to the one I have but I'll wait until the frame arrives before buying anything else.

Cyclocross Frames, Wheels & Components / Tan Tan GR040 Build
« on: October 13, 2020, 04:52:55 AM »
Have just ordered a Tan Tan GR040.  This will be my build and ride log.

I've been wanting to scratch the Chiner bike build itch for a while and decided I'd go for a gravel bike build as my commuter.  My commute is only like 3/4 miles at most so very light duties and out with the kids. I have a lovely custom built Ragley Blue Pig for rough stuff and a 2020 Cube Reaction Race 29er which I don't seem to be able to sell - unless I'm giving it away! Surprising given the lack of availability of decent mountain bikes in the UK.  Tempted to strip it for parts, sell what I can and move the brakes and transmission over to a FS Chiner 29er (Hurry up AM831).

Anyway, the GR040.  Dealing with Tan Tan has been fine. I mailed LightCarbon and Carbonda. LC were fine to deal with but could not paint only 1 frame. Carbonda didn't reply. Think I messaged ICan regaring the P1 but didn't get a reply either. No drama, The GR040 has been chosen!  Didn't go too fancy on the paint, grey frame and orange forks.  Ordered full bike, frame, bars and wheelset.  Paid through Ali on a credit card so should have section 75 protection, hopefully.

I've also ordered the transmission. This is where things get a little sketchy :)

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001452212891.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.77384c4dyBcunK

ZRace and Sensah transmission and brakes. The BB ordered is BSA so will pick up an 86 locally.   Wanted to go with a full chiner setup and as I'm unlikely to be taking the bike over the Welsh mountains, it won't leave me stranded too far from home if it all ends up in a horribly oily mess :D

Will update once things start to roll in.
