Re: FM1002 / FM1166 - 150mm frame
It’s definitely one of the best “safe bets” out there. I would’ve liked a more sophisticated suspension system than a four-bar, but it has good kinematics (notably better than my 2020 GT Force in almost every area, particularly anti-squat) and seems well constructed. There’s nothing mysterious about the pivot hardware, cable routing etc….all very sensible. I can see why KHS and Sherpa, among others, are using the FM1001 and 1002.

I really would recommend it over any other long travel frame available that I’ve seen. I won’t be able to give proper ride reports until some time around mid-April most likely, but I will definitely share lots of detail when I can. I’m a big suspension geek and am pretty obsessive about getting everything just right.

Do you think this is a better made frame than the FS 830 Pivot style frame? I am weighing all the possibilities right now. The FS830 and this FM1002 / FM1166 are both on the short list.

Re: FS830 Enduro Frame - Stef Biggel’s build
I rode the modified bike this afternoon. Pretty quick for my opinion. It feels super solid. Now that the bearings have been changed, the rear wheel feels better than before. And before that it was good.

I think it will be one of my last posts on the build. I may post a video if I make one worth posting.

In summary, I can say that I did not find any critical problem with the FS830 frame. Yes, the design of the link connectors is not great. But I had no problem with them. To be on the safe side, I changed the bearings and put the spacers between the bearings. It took me an hour per connection including production with the lathe. So I think summasumarum is ok for a frame with Pivot Firebird genes.

I'm having a lot of fun with it and looking forward to next month when I can test it for longer descents in the Alps.

As long as,
Stefan.

Thanks for updating your experience. Can you tell a little more about how you made your bearing spacer? It seems like it would have to make contact with the outer rings of the bearings while clearing the inner bearing race so that it can spin freely. Also, what did you use to upgrade the bearings? I am interested in getting one of these frames. But I wish to have all of the facts straight before I make a purchase.

Re: FS830 Enduro Frame - Stef Biggel’s build Thanks for the information. If the tubing is cut to a 43.5mm length it will fit nicely between the bearings? And other than this upgrade the frame has worked out well for you? I am thinking about buying this frame and putting a bike together this spring. My choice is between this and the FM1002. Either seems like a good choice. Although I am partial to the Pivot style rear end of this bike.

Breathing new life into the old P9 I just installed a Slack-R headset adapter into my four year old P9 to slacken the head angle. It seems to make a notable improvement in the downhill handling of the bike. Although with our recent 2' of snow I have been shut down from trail riding for a week or so.

Re: Breathing new life into the old P9 Sorry actually probably 4 years now that I look back. I bought a P8 first, and the P9 shortly after words. It has been a solid bike. I sold the P8 and kept the P9. I put some lock tight on the pivot bearing screws and all has been good. I also bought a used Ibis Ripley that gets half of my riding. So, P9 isnt my only bike. But the Slack-R slackens the head angle to about 65 degrees i am guessing. Which makes it more useful for what I want to use it for.

Re: Carbonda FM909
With no technical justification, my preference is the 936; I just like the lines of the frame better.  More straight tubes and I just don't care for the pregnant cat belly down tube of the 909.  Hard to decide which is better though when you factor in more than looks... Having 2 bottle holders in the Arizona desert where I ride would be preferred.

I see what you mean about the asthetics of the lines between the two bikes. All I might add is that companies like Rocky Mountain and Specialized have switched from a vertical
shock Horst Link to the horizontal shock Horst Link to increase the progresivity of the suspension. And improve somewhat the pedaling efficiency.

Re: Carbonda FM909 Lighter, more progressive, and in some cases allows for a water bottle. Or sometimes second water bottle.

Re: Possible 30% Income Tax Credit For The Purchase Of An Electric Bike (U.S.)
It would be interesting if Congress passed an eBike incentive.

Why not a tax break for people who never leave the house and go outside? They aren't burning ant fossil fuels at all for travel. A sofa incentive would be nice.

Re: Options to slacken out my OG-EVKIN CF-052 29er frame

I just pulled the trigger on a OG-EVKIN CF-052 which has a 69.8 HA  . . .
Does anybody . . . have any idea if I can use an angleset or spacer puck?  Thanks for your input!
