Title: CS-036 low-cost marathon race build
Post by: markalanprior on March 04, 2017, 04:29:08 PM
Sharing my success in building up a CS-036 dual suspension frame as a race-ready XC marathon bike. Through careful mix-n-match part selection during pre-holiday sales, I believe I was able to cobble together a build that would likely cost ~$5500 retail for around $3000. Under 25 pounds with non-carbon rims. After around 10 rides in CA and AZ, have found the bike to meet expectations and to be a perfect match for my needs.

In addition to deconstructing the part supply chain, I enjoyed tackling some of the more complex configuration problems. Would have been much more stressful if I hadn't allowed lots of extra time in the off-season and approached as a learning project.

Detailed parts list and pics attached.

I found the forum invaluable, so please let me know if I can answer any questions to pass along the karma.

Thanks for sharing. Nice bike, you can shave some weights from current build if needed.
Do you find the placement of the second bottle cage useful under the downtube? Wouldn't it be better to try the seatpost option? Just curious.

How much have you ridden on this bike? Any issues so far?
