29er / My IP-057 project
« on: April 12, 2015, 08:16:24 AM »
Hi everyone.

Just wanted to say thanks for the help in answering my small queries that enabled me to build my bike.  It is really appreciated.

And just to show off the finished project, let me present:

So far I am very happy with how it has turned out.  I am loving nearly every part on it and of it.

It is a fairly basic build with mostly Shimano XT running gear, but it turned out OK.  Weight is around 10.2 kg.

A couple more pics follow.

I was originally going to add some paint or colour, but right now I am diggin' the stealthy black look.  Time will tell.  Only thing that is a little annoying is the internal cable routing (which was much easier to do than I expected) is setup backwards for us aussie builders.  The runs are to suit left hand drive countries where the brake levers are on the wrong sides. But it does work out ok.

29er / What's Up with my Carbon Fork
« on: March 31, 2015, 07:56:57 PM »
Hi all,

so my newly arrived XMI 29er fork has a small blemish in the region where the bearing sits. See:

It looks like it is maybe a bit or carbon sitting on the aluminium that I need to scrape off, but then I wonder if the aluminium has been turned after production and it has been cut thru to reveal carbon underneath?  Not knowing how these are made, it is a little hard to say.

Anyone seen this before and can shed some light?

Thanks

29er / XMIPLAY IP-057 Cable Routing
« on: March 31, 2015, 09:48:27 AM »
Hi everyone.

New member here, have just received my IP-057 from Jason at XMIPLAY, so far it looks pretty good.  But I have some questions regarding the cable routing as no details came with the bike.

For the rear dérailleur, I note a thin liner already installed in the frame.  And this liner fits the Shimano cables I will use nicely.  So here I guess I just add some outer cable sheath on the portion of liner outside the frame, and trim the liner so that really stops just a bit short of where it comes out the frame.  Does this sound right?

For the rear brake I really have no idea what should happen here.  The already installed liner here is thicker than for the dérailleur, but what do I do with it? I presume it has to come out and be replaced with the brake hose? Do we tape the two together and pull through?  Will the brake hose fit into the openings in the frame?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Tim
