I have gone a different route on a frame, didn't feel like waiting until next season.  Thanks and good luck

Good catch! Didn’t notice that...

Well, I was going with no paint and using the hardware that came with it... so I was thinking $850 shipped with shock. Backcountry and CC charge taxes and shipping so that price would be closer to $2300.

That's almost $1500 and is the difference between me doing a build and not doing a build at all. That said, I already have a bike and don't need another... if I needed a bike I might share your opinion.

Not to split hairs, but frame shipping is $70 from BC and I don’t have sales tax where I live, so for me the difference between doing a build with an authentic frame that has a warranty and not doing a build is still roughly $1k.

I’m still gonna hold out for bit to see where this goes...

Backcountry.com and competitive cycles have the frame right now for $2k.  I figure this China build will cost closer to $1k with custom paint and improved hardware.  I may shell out the extra $1k for a warranty and something I can ride this season, haven’t decided yet.  I imagine others would be thinking the same

Bump because I’m in the exact same position, want to build up a spare rowdy 27.5+ for friends with spare parts.  Thanks for any leads!

Eddy mentioned they accept Pantone codes if you want something other than the colors posted on pg. 1.  For anyone that wants the sweet blue color that SC uses on the 2020 HT, the paint code is PMS 2153c.

I would imagine it would be cheaper if several people ordered this custom color.

Good info.  I re-read the first page of the bulk buy thread, and Eddy says they accept Pantone codes for paint.  For anyone that wants the sweet blue color that SC uses, the paint code is PMS 2153c.

Ok, can we generally assume that the color ways are matched to SC’s?  It’s hard to tell from the photo provided if they are, especially without proper color matching.  Ie. the blue on the 2020 SC Hightower seems similar to the blue #6 provided by Eddy, but darker.  Hard to tell without knowing the white balance levels of the photo.

Also, as a first frame up build this is slightly daunting with unknowns and hearsay.  For instance, is it better to just buy your own hardware (headset, bearings, shock bolts) for these frames? It is mentioned several times about the low quality metal provided, guys with shock bolts getting bent after a season etc.

Does anyone have first hand knowledge of whether these paint jobs are worth it? How much cost and weight do they usually add?  Any alternatives? Thanks

That would add complexity, longer design time, and most importantly cost that I’m not interested in personally.

I'd have to agree. Also, perhaps introduce some weak points in the frame. I'm sure specialized does plenty of testing to get theirs right.

What I would like to see them do to set themselves (and this frame) above competitors is to use high-quality hardware (bearings, bolts, etc). Maybe even offer as a paid upgrade option.

Exactly.  As my first bike build I would rather not have to also invest in tools and hardware just to replace shit quality bearings that shouldn’t be there in the first place.

@Eddy, i know it may not be that easy, but if you were able to integrate in your design/manufacturing a "Swat box" like Specialized does on the diagonal tube of their bikes, you would position your products one step above direct competition.
And I'm sure we all would love it!

I am interested, but could use a little direction.
I've ridden a pretty entry level hardtail (cannondale trail 3) for the last two years and would like to transition to a FS. I road a chinese road bike for years and its still going strong in the hands of another local rider, so I'm not afraid of china carbon.

I'm 6'2" and ride a XL (21). Would that translate to a L or should I go with XL?
Is this more of a trail bike? Or enduro? All mountain?

My only real concern is that this is new unproven tech. But I guess someone has to be the guinea pig huh?

I’m 6’2” , and in between sizes as well.  Going with 19, it’s the same as Santa Cruz size XL.

I believe the frame is still a first iteration, maybe its just me but I cant seem to find the hole for the shock to pass in between the seat tube, still its nice to see the first frames comming out  ;D

From that image we don't see rear shock bridge, but why would they build an useless mold, create a frame and then work on another mold (correct one) wasting time and money?
From what I know, frame in under testing from now on, then production will start and shipping from late april.

Any idea what has come of this? Concerning...

Nice looking bike, and may fall in my budget.  What was the final weight?
