Re: Any chinese frames using high modulus carbon like the real Specialized frames? The upcoming Elilee Blize will have an ultralight 680g variant constructed from a mixture of Toray T1100 and M40X. You also have the Dizo Epic Pro which is constructed from Mitsubishi MR70 and Dyneema. These two won't be cheap and they certainly won't they sit at that 2-3K US sweetspot. According to Elilee, T1100 costs 5x of T800 and M40X costs 10x of T800...you do the math. For reference Elilee's top level EVO XXE triathlon frame retailed at around 4.5K US in China. Finally you have the not-as-high-end Pardus Robin Evo that employs a mixture of T1100, T800 and M40 for its carbon layup.

Do note that carbon supply is massively constrained worldwide which means that there is next to no excess material left for no name brands. Since imported material is hard to come by and there are actually export restrictions placed on top level T1100 due to military applications, most open mould makers source their material from Sinofibers who produce T1000 and T800 domestically in China. Sinofibers has small batch T1100 & M40X equivalent material (ZT9 & ZM40X) on top of their recently commercialised T1000 but currently only T800 (ZT8) is mass produced and readily available. Besides Sinofibers, Tianshun produce T800 equivalent material (TS800) and are also working on their own T1000.

Re: Interesting Aliexpress finds! - good deals, interesting stuff, new products etc! These IIIPRO brakes seem copies of Juin Tech F1s at less than half the cost or am I missing something. From the photos, the finishing looks better on Juin Tech's listing though.

I just recently started seeing PRO branded gear on AliExpress. They do look a lot like Juin Tech calipers, but with a barrel adjuster built-in similar to the ZRace BR-005. Also I just found these Tanke branded calipers. I'm not sure if they're new. They look similar to the PRO calipers, but the machining is different. I thought they were rebranded BR-005 calipers, but I don't think they are the same:

Re: New Lexon spirit The weight difference is going to be in materials (that nanotube reinforced resin in the Scott is a big advantage over regular carbon-resin matrixes) and the fact that the layup is likely a lot less optimized, partly as a result of the materials difference. I bet the pivot bearings and hardware are also a little heavier.

Personally I’d like to try one of these out, just to see what it’s like; I’ll never put down the money for a branded XC bike on this level and it would be neat to experience this particular suspension system first hand. Wouldn’t expect it to be that special in terms of kinematics but the low slung center of gravity would probably be nice, and it does seem inherently pretty stiff.

Re: Super Boost Discussion Sounds like you know a thing or two. Only you can determine the personal financial feasibility end of such a deal. Are you on the Facebook "Bicycle Wheel Building" group. Over 27k members worldwide. Several current/former industry types contribute. You MIGHT be able to find some interest there. Hell, if you can't sell it there then I'd consider that good reason not to pursue it. You might also try the Framebuilders forum. I've had a few discussions similar to ours regarding the advantages of Superboost on custom frames. You might run into some builders that are looking for the same solution you've found.

ICAN Gravel X I was waiting for my new my bike to show up (3 month back order on the new Trek Fuel), so I decided to build a china carbon gravel bike.  I picked the ICAN Gravel X frame.  The order process was super easy.  I think it delivered in about 3-4 weeks.  The frame quality was great, no issues on any bolt holes or cable runs.  My only regret was not getting a custom paint job; I think the matte black turned out nice with the leather seat/bar combo, but some color would be pretty sweet. 

I also bought the ICAN carbon wheels. They arrived a week or so after the frame.  They apologized for not being able to ship a set with decals, but honestly I preferred the blank wheels.  Everything from ICAN was packed super bomb proof, I don’t think anyone could have damaged my shipment. 

The general setup:
SRAM rival axs xplr group set, 1x12. 
SRAM force cranks. 
Brookes saddle and bar tape
45mm wheels, tubeless

I don’t own a scale so I have no idea how much it weighs.  I did a lift comparison between this build and my road bike (2008 specialized roubaix) and it feels about the same.  If I ditched the Brooke’s saddle I bet I could tell the difference. 

Went on my first ride today on some mixed road and gravel;  bike performed great, no issues.  Need to dial in some seat positions but otherwise it’s going to be a nice bike.  I wasn’t really going for the cheapest option or the lightest weight, so I didn’t really keep track of any of that info during the build. 

13/10 on dealing with ICAN, would repeat again.

This is definitely true. My buddies and I ride this fast, downhill canyon trail on our gravel bikes. I'm hitting close to 30mph on a rutted dirt trail. The carbon bars make such a huge difference in stability, dampening and steering control. Even on technical switchbacks, the wide flare makes it easier to maneuver as well.
