Title: ZTTO chains
Post by: emu26 on February 09, 2021, 04:22:03 PM
Anyone had experience with the ZTTO 11sp chains?  They seem to be doing reasonable quality stuff with their other items and I'm wondering what their chains are like.  I did see the other ZRace thread and it seems to have mixed reviews from the small sample size that replied.

The price difference to a name brand is imo too small to bother with a chinese chain. Especially with when you read stuff like them beeing too soft or be worn out after 500km etc.

Less than half the price is too small a difference?

I'll take a 50% discount almost every time thank you.

Which chains are you comparing to?  SRAM X1 11 speed and KMC 11 are both $27 on Jenson.  ZTTO is $21.30.

Add postage.  Not everyone lives in the U S of A

Then also add the fact that Jenson are out of stock.

Actually scratch the above. Jenson won't ship either Shimano nor SRAM to Australia.

For comparison, the ZTTO is 18€.

I have had good experiences with SUMC and YBN chains. All the rest have been loud, shifted like ass or worn really quick. I went with Chinese chains for their fancy colours and lower prices but i always end up back with a standard silver chain.

Thanks Matt, did you try a ZTTO one?

Schumo, as a comparison to the prices we pay in the "lucky country", and these are our bigger discount on-line shops.  Then add about $10A for postage, even locally.

The SRAM PC 1110 has been out of stock for ages as are most of the shimano chains.  The ZTTO I linked is $26A + $2A delivery.

I dont think ZTTO actually make their own chains. They get their supply from a different factory, the original factory is usually stamped on the chain links.

Here is my most recent chinese chain/cassette combo. An ultra light Sroad cassette at 175g and a light weight hollow link and hollow pin chain from OG-Evkin. Shifting is okay but the combo is quite noisy, cant be sure if the noise was cause by the chain, cassette or both. Also the stamps on my chain are different from the stamps in the product listing, my chain is stamped 'TOP TKC' and I cannot find much information about it.

I just had a look at the ZTTO chains. The purple one is stamped by SUMC (good chains) and the silver is XMC (KMC wanna be ;D ). Do your research on the quality of these chains rather than 'ztto' chains. Also just like me, the chain you receive might have a different stamp to the chain in the product pictures. Ideally you could look at customer picture reviews but the markings can be hard to make out.

ZTTO usually has pretty decent products and from what I've heard take care of their customers. Zrace chains are made by Sumc and YBN according to this Ebay listing https://www.ebay.com/itm/312792999687

Recently ordered ZTTO regular silver chain, 11 speed, brand is SUMC. Performance is OK with shimano crank + cassette, shifting into bigger cogs is occasionally a bit slower than ultegra chain. I stripped the factory grease with paint thinner and used Squirt wax lube, and the chain holds onto the wax fine.

Not sure about the Ztto Chain, but I think you would be better off getting a genuine one....."Everytime"
I got one off AliExpress, OG-Evkin 10 spd, 3000km later I was in the start box for a ITT and 3, 2,1,SNAP! It was well serviced and checked....just snapped and over the bars I went.

Some things you just get genuine!

Update: I have done roughly 4000km on a ZTTO 12sp gold chain with hollow links and pins. While it looks nice and is super light, it’s worn after 4000k. I hot wax my chains and this is the fastest that I’ve ever worn out a waxed chain. My Campy chains don’t even show the slightest signs of wear after 6-7000km.
Also, the chain was noisy and shifting was sub par. I’ll stick with established brands for chains, I think.

Dropping experience with 12-speed hollow pin ZTTO chains here as a warning: ordered last September, I didn't even get 500km out of them before they're past acceptable wear, even on the indoor trainer. Had 3 of them, all the same, so total crap. Which surprises me as ZTTO stuff is usually decent quality and this is the first that's really just garbage.

So, if AliExpress, it's rather going to be SUMC or YBN, preferably, although as of late those haven't really been any cheaper than Shimano XT/XTR.

I got ZTTO gold 12sp chain, passed 0.5% stretch after about 300km of mtb use. Waste of money. Do not buy it.

Original SUMC(color, ti nitride) and YBN SLA anly long lasting chains for China.
