Finally have most of the parts in for my daughters 24" build. I am using the BXT hardtail 24 model. I requested it to be a raw unpainted frame and they were able to accommodate that. Very happy as it came stripped and sanded ready to paint. Wheels are built, went with Stans Crest 24" as they were the lightest option I could find. Paired to novatec 411/412 hub set and Pilar 1420 spoke, the wheels came in at sub 1200g. Very happy with that. For the fork I went with a 26" Reba. Found a new old stock one at a good price. Weight was 1700g with an uncut steerer. Only it has no damper adjustment. We will see how that works out. I went with the usual elita seat post, toseek bars and uno stem. Shimano deore drivetrain and brakes will finish it off. Based on my maths I am looking at a bit over 19lbs.

Nice, looking forward to finish product as I will be doing the same for my son in a few months.
-
Finally built. super happy with the outcome. waiting for a few things to finalize it like her actual stem and grips. just borrowing from other bikes for the moment. total build as pictured with chunky pedals is 19.2 lbs.
-
That’s a nice light weight bike, 4lbs less than my son’s 20s I am sure it makes for a more enjoyable and contrôlable ride.
I’ll put the built together during 11/11 sales.

Jeff,
Full build picture didn't seem to work, can you try again?
What did you go with for the drivetrain/crank?

Ali goldix 140mm for less than $40 are perfect for this bike.

For those interested, that frame is currently discounted here (can request no stickers):

I went with the Deore M6100 shifter and derailleur and then an 11-36 cassette and the Gold 140mm cranks.
that frame looks great. like the paint with bare carbon as well.
-
I have added gold stem spacers and the gold wolf tooth lock on grips. also an Uno stem with ti bolts of course. my daughter loves it. have not had it off road yet but the 24" wheels are so much faster than her 20" wheels. much better of bumps and sticks.
-
Awesome built as well! What is the minimum seat height?
-
I think it is like 28". My daughter needed 29" and it was able to do it. The bigger issue is the frame stand over is about that so she does not have much room. But she can ride it around this fall and in the spring we can get after it off road.

I wish there was some descent budget 24” fork with 50-60mm travel to lower the from some and reduce the stand over. Almost tempted to try some of the cheap Chinese options, bucklos/bolany

agreed. i have been looking for an option to make the 100mm reba i have and 80mm fork but no luck. it even has a different air shaft than the normal one. i pulled it apart and checked.

It's childs play on 15 year old reba dual airs. The two I bought are about 120mm, but have a spacer to reduce it to 100mm. I 3d printer another spacer to shrink them to 80mm forks. Took $2 and 1 hour.
-
I never played with spacers but doesn’t that just affect the travel on the compressed side of the stroke, acting like a stop? What I was thinking was reducing the stroke length so that both lower and uppers could be shorter, to minimize the overall length and allowed a lower front end

no way, so you 3d printed a shorter spacer? or is it a longer spacer? would you be willing to make another and how much would you charge? i was thinking it needed a whole new airshaft like the 29er rebas require. could i

If you look at the pic, the stock hard rubber spacer is on the left, that shortens the fork 20mm. I added the middle spacer, that reduced the fork another 20mm.
I mean I could help you, if your air side is identical, no problem. You could save time and money and have a local library or maker space print one. I used PETG but I doubt it matters much.
These reba dual airs are pretty sweet. After reducing the length for a 24" bike, you can either shorten or remove the spacer, which I did so it's a 120mm fork for my kids 26" bike.

It reduces the overall length. Rockshox sold the spacers years ago, it's a documented thing.

That’s a great, I didn’t realize that! Opens up things nicely then, off to find a good 26” fork then
-
Can the same be done on more modern 26 reba like the SL?

I have no clue. This was one clue a found a few years ago trying to understand. https://www.mtbr.com/threads/changing-travel-on-older-rockshox-reba-29-dual-air-fork.1075241/

I am also considering this frame from BXT but with carbon fork. I do not think that my daughter needs a suspension fork for her style of riding and it adds weight too. But it seems that nobody produces 24er thru axle carbon fork, they have just standard QR version. The only one I have seen is on WOOM off5. Has somebody of you came across any 24er fork for thru axle?
About the length of cranks and fitting in general I found lot of inspiration on hupcc.com. They have completely different approach and prefer 28" wheels even for small frame sizes. So another option for a kid's bike (and an alternative to HUP) could be getting Chinese TARMAC SL8 clone or DOGMA F clone in size 44 (43). HUP suggest 44 size for 138+ cm body height. And the geometry is almost the same. Starting with flat handlebar and 26er wheels (if they fit) would be better for us. Standard open mould frames usually start with size 49 and it is too big.

Not sure if you went ahead but I am in the process of ordering one for my son, through carbomania on Ali, great contact, a bit cheaper than BXT official. Still undecided between black gloss and bright blue; they will supply sticker free, I will apply my own after.
Hardest part so far is finding wheels. So few options for 24in thru axles that don’t cost much. Was originally going for aluminum but may move to carbon as the price delta is not much and better hub choices

For wheels i built my own. like you found, not many options out there. I ordered the Stans Crest in 24H and then the Novatec 411/412 hubs. what are you finding for carbon rims? i was not able to find anything under the 160-180$ range per rim.

Bitranz has one at 150
I just found this on AliExpress: $189.00 | 24er 520 38mm 30mm Width Carbon Rim 25mm Deep 24" Tubeless Sleddog Dog Racing Wheel BMX Folding Bike Freestyle 20 21 24 28 32 36

oh i think i saw those. the Stan's Crests were lighter by just a bit. but those were nice and wide.
-
Well I think I will end up with aluminum wheels, unlabeled Pasak’s from carbomania, the frame supplier. Gave me a good deal on a demo set with tires.
I’ll start a built thread to not pollute yours
