Being allergic to subscriptions, and finding Zwift to be awfully bad given:
- how long they've been around (I recommend the interview of the CEO by DC Rainmaker, the CEO is an epic clown, it's pretty amazing),
- how little they've innovated since inception (the graphics and 90% of the UI is THE SAME since day 1 (again, see the interview)),
- and how much money they've burnt,
i've tried a few alternatives.
I think Mywhoosh has now reached a point when what it's missing most is users. I wish they'd pay me to say that, i'd happily shill for a totalitarian regime, but they dont.
The graphics are much better than Zwift. I havent used it much, probably just under 10x, and it's buggy in various ways (for example sometimes you can overlap with another user, instead of moving to the side), the UI is pretty confusing because they have coins, and then 2 other types of coins that aren't coins, and you have to click to unlock things and what not, but it's honestly working quite well now. They added a ton of routes, worlds, and challenges, so it's gamified quite well. The aerodynamics modeling is rather dubious, which irritates me, but then again, the whole thing's free.
Interestingly, the training section seems much better than Zwift's. I havent tried one yet, but i browsed a bit, and it looks legit. I will probably follow a plan to try it out.
While i'm considering a trainer road subscription because i do think that personalized coaching is valuable, what you get from Zwift for the money they charge is, i think, a bottomless pit.
You will own nothing and be happy
The beatings will continue until morale improves.

I’ve used MyWhoosh a few times and its nice but I usually use IndieVelo though because it runs better on my machine and offers a super solid, albeit basic user interface that I like.
I am on my trainer 3-4 times a week due to my schedule/responsibilities. I mostly do basic z1-2 rides and a few different interval sessions. I like the pace bots and doing the occasional race, but it is kind of lonely.
I may start using MyWhoosh exclusively if IndieVelo starts charging. I did like MyWhoosh's large workout library.
Maybe this thread can add on or pivot into a list of usernames on various virtual riding platforms?

I've been using Mywhoosh on my iPhone for quick 20-45 minute rides. It's been great so far and easy to get going.

Well, as a beta user i support zwift from the beginning....i am happy to pay their subscription fees as they provide the best online platform for my purpose, i use it year around..
i rather have a ceo being a clown, then coming from abu dhabi!
Check their terms: stream or otherwise make available your use of the App and/or Services (including rides and races) on any platform whether or not for the purpose of commercial/monetary gain (for example streaming on YouTube).
so no live prideride possible, lol...

Is indoor training helpful if I live in year round cycling weather? Part of the reason I ride outdoors is to avoid being indoors. Plus I already live in varied terrain. I have access to hill climbs and long flats from my front door. The only other reason I might consider indoor training is to do virtual rides with friends who don't live close by. In that regards, maybe a non-subscription cycling app might be worth trying.
-
Seconded. I've used mywhoosh and indievelo a bunch last year when my (third) zwift free trial ended and they're great. By far my biggest complaints for both was how lonely I felt being surrounded by bots or just alone in the world. I think I slightly prefer indievelo as you don't need the windows store and it ran better, but they're both great. Fuck the subscription economy

well, it depends..
do you just want to ride? or do you want to train?
I have checked ALL platforms and always end up with zwift...because i always find somebody i know or to ride with, i am member of several clubs...there are special triathlete workouts from trainers i can join...i can race! you cannot race against yourself...
once again, joining a platform of a country which desrespects human rights should not even come up your mind! just because its free...you think its free but you pay with your gas..

I've tried them all and the best is wahoo systm for me. It has best testing and training plans. Great videos with music, motivation or locations. It is also the only that implements strength training, stretching, yoga and even mental training. Best tool for all in one training package for winter.
I really don't get the social aspect of zwift, I'm not looking for virtual friends. Also zwift races are stupid imo. People just pushing all in on every ride in winter are the ones who are already burned/overtrained when summer start. Winter on a trainer is all about getting the most of your training in the least time. Time for pushing watts without any structure is in the summer on your bunch ride
Then there are also apps like Rouvy with real world video but man those virtual riders on real video look super weird.
My vote is for wahoo systm as it has the best package by far. If you wanna make serious gains in the winter and work on your weak sides this is the best tool.

If you want to go low budget, than i can recommend icTrainer.
It's minimalistic, but with all the features you need like structured plans or real routes with video and you can even import your one gpx routes if you like. Also you can minimize the hub and go transparent as an overlay when you want to watch some series or movies while basemileling.
But, to be honest, some things like the UI could be more intuive. But for 24€/year you can't really moan.

The GTA V mod looks really interesting-not sure if it's still being supported.

I ride through the real life version of GTA Los Santos. Sometimes the game version isn't so far off from reality!

I went from Zwift to MyWhoosh. I really don’t care about the social aspect or virtual racing. I’m looking for structured training and that’s where MyWhoosh is just better than Zwift. And it’s free. So that’s a no brainer. Wahoo SYSTM is nice but the videos and especially the subs IMO are cringe worthy. Also I don’t need to stare at ten year old pro races to stay motivated. And the yoga and mental lessons are not worth the monthly rate for me. I rather use MyWhoosh and spend that money elsewhere.
I used to have connection issues with MyWhoosh. But it seems they’ve ironed out those bugs. Now it’s reliable.

Yes, this is a very good software! And the founder is German...i would not say it is minimalistic!
But it will always loose against the cheapo for free software from middle east...
so please stop using mywhoosh..just think about it..
-
I'll try both - thanks for getting the trainer discussion started ahead of winter weather.
-
An issue with my whoosh is that it requires recent hardware which I don’t have and don’t plan to get just for the sake of a free app.
I can run zwift on my old ass iPad without any issues, and that’s fine.
Having said that, I actually don’t use either anymore. I’m back to TrainerRoad plus Netflix and it’s the best app I’ve tried so far for performance gains.
-
Also made the switch from Zwift to MyWhoosh. The pacer rides are a bit slower, but training wise it's the same. Who cares about virtual speed, just need to do my workouts somewhere. And it looks alot better without costing me anything.
-
i rather have a ceo being a clown, then coming from abu dhabi!
No place for racism buddy.

I am a user of Zwift since 2018 and still enjoying it. The yearly cost is well worth for me since I do not like to go to the gym and ride year round indoor for general fitness.
Of course I prefer outdoor riding but due to work and miserable weather I use Zwift at least twice per week.
The social aspect and that you are not riding in a deserted landscape is a big plus for me.
My indoor setup uses an Apple TV and so far only Zwift support this properly.
MyWoosh is in beta and a pain to install while IndieVelo is not free if you want to use the AppleTV.
I will stay on Zwift for the time being 8)
BR Chris
-
I'm using it and the workouts look fine for me. Free rides I can do outside
-
+1 on icTrainer.
Also supports the atmosphere of the pain cave.
As I’m doing structured WO only indoors it works best for me. Dozens of free workouts available at trainerday and I’m good to go.

Since indievelo is dead (to me) is there any other platform other than mywhoosh for free?

if you are on trainingpeaks premium, you will receive a new app for free...
-
If I pay, I'm getting something for free? That's awesome

Biketerra is free, just a lower graphics version of a cycling "video game"

First time posting here :)
I just wanted to point out some things I found out on my own when looking into MyWhoosh when I first heard of it.
The CEO is AKHTAR SAEED HASHMI according to (https://www.mywhoosh.com/ceo-message/). The first google result for this name seems to show that a person by the exact same name in the UAE was implicated to some extent in a spyware controversy of an app called ToTok by the Emirati intelligence services.
do with this info what you want

Lucky me I'm using a dedicated pc for zwift/mywhoosh. They can only tell me to spend more time with my wife ;D

No place for racism buddy.
Are you blaming me being racist?
https://www.hindustantimes.com/trending/woman-claims-she-faced-casual-racism-at-abu-dhabi-airport-the-automatic-assumption-that-i-belong-to-101722429994831.html
so, where is my racism here?
just do a google search what abu dhabi is known for, but hey, you may do share all their opinions? and the way they treat people...
mywhoosh is a very popular platform for earning money with riding bikes, they have had race series with 1 million USD price money if i remember right.....so some people even earn loads of money with it, which i can understand somehow, especially in the women cycling world, paygaps are huge....of course, abu dhabi has equal pay for the races...they are the best.
-
I gave it a try tonight and the file failed to upload to my Strava. I have used it when it first came out and I was surprised at how much it improved. I ended up doing a training session on GTBikeV with no issues what so ever except maybe being sworn at, getting shot and run over by a car. LOL
-
It's pretty awesome, I agree. The only annoying bit is that during structured workout, you don't get detailed info on what the next interval is. Only the color indicates whether it's hard or not. I wish I could see the whole workout structure and info like in Zwift.
Also, it takes up a load of disk space because you gotta download all these routes. And yes, there's the issue with where it's made and who makes it. I might just try other options because of this.
-

If you look at the track record of the CIA when it comes to death abroad, misery, misunderstanding local dynamics, war, mayhem and so on, since Allen Dulles, or more recently, with the current US endorsed genocide and US endorsed war (it's not me saying it, but the UN), playing the morality card is really arguably a joke.
Paying for zwift because it employs American incompetent hipsters, to support America, that is legit.
But saying UAE is bad and the US is virtuous is cognitively dissonant to such an extent that I had to point it out.
And to be clear, yes, UAE is bad. But show me one nation that isn't. Like Jesus would say, who hasn't sinned throw the first stone lalala.
-

I don't know where you read that. Certainly not in my post. I didn't write one word about the US.
With "other options" I meant something like icTrainer, as in an individual selling his own software and asking for a very reasonable licence fee in return (rather than wanting all my data). And honestly, a training software is all I need. I don't care about flashy graphics, digital social rides and online racing.
-
Just cancelled zwift over the weekend, every month I see the subscription fee go out and I think about how I haven't used it

Ah, sorry, my bad! I assumed you were comparing it to Zwift, as it's the gold standard of virtual cycling. Then yes, I agree with you. It can make sense to give your attention & money to other players for specific reasons.
It's just that most people virtue signal from a position of abysmal ignorance of history and reality, it's very irritating.
-

I think part of the point is that MyWhoosh is directly funded by the UAE government, unlike Zwift.

I tried Mywhoosh when the weather went to shits at around the end of September/early October. Tried it on the iPhone first, it was okay. Then installed it on my Macbook, terrible experience. Kept crashing all the time. Cannot recommend it for this unfortunately. Also, not a big fan of the graphics, still seems to me it's in an early Beta state. Zwift, even though I hate to admit it, does not have a direct competition at this very moment imho.
-

No wonder... mac is not a priority to developpers. Doesn't happen on windows. Shame they use the garbage microsoft store though. And no linux

Changed over to MyWhoosh from IndieVelo with the impending changeover spring 2025.
What's the deal with the ERG on MyWhoosh? It seems to barely function for me no matter how I connect my power meter and Saris H3 smart trainer.
-
I’m using it on my Macbook Pro M1. No crashes. Flawless performance. Great graphics. Much better than Zwift in fact. And ERG works just like with any other indoor training app with my Elite Suito combined with Favero Assiomas. Nothing to complain about. Only minor issue I have with it is that it only supports Bluetooth. No ANT+. That could be an issue for some devices.

I have problems with ERG sometimes and I also use Saris H3. For me it only happens if you connect a trainer and leave it idle for some time before actually starting a training. The app registers power but erg does not work. I reconnect the trainer when that happens and erg starts working

I narrowed my difficulties down to trying to use my power meter cranks as the cadence meter. If I let it default to using the Saris for everything during ERG workouts and being in appropriately high gear, it functions fine enough, although the rpm fluctuates quite a bit at times.

It won't even use a USB device? I use mywoosh on a 10 year old windows laptop that says in the garage, haven't tried the Mac version.
I like it, I've tried zwift off and on since they were new but I just can't get over how much it costs for me to play a video game. I miss the old days when I could just buy a game.

I think up until recently it didn't support ANT+ at all. But there was major update recently which also brought with it a newly designed menu/user interface. There is now an ANT+ icon in the top right corner next to the bluetooth logo. So they might have added that feature. I haven't tried it bc I'm only using bluetooth for connectivity. Someone else on here might know better?

I've used the ANT+ feature with an ANT+ usb dongle on my mini pc. Seems to function just as well as the Bluetooth connection.
-
I've been using Rouvy for a couple years, to me the real videos are a lot more interesting than a game-like world.
-
Just started using Woosh.
Set-up is:
2019 MacBook Pro
Bluetooth only (may get an ant+ adaptor for heart rate later)
Magene PES P505
Using a non-smart set of rollers.
I don't get resistance changes/feedback. But of the couple rides I've done it's fun.
-
Seems like a big part of my local Strava bubble migrated from Zwift to MyWhoosh this winter.
I think it's a good thing that there's pressure on Zwift. I think they're just plain lazy on a lot of fronts: when it comes to introducing new courses and features, the logics and and complexity of the workouts, the graphics. Maybe it will force them to up their game.
-
Maybe it will force them to up their game.
They've torched so much money from investors and the CEO sounds like such a tool, i wouldn't hold my breath.
I'm level 32 on mywhoosh now (i transferred my points from zwift). The grahpics are way better, the workouts make a lot more sense and there's clearly been some input from real coaches.
I run it on a mini pc with a really fast SSD, 16gb ram, and an AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS. All the settings are maxed out.
I dont love it though. The gamification isn't as good as zwift, so you're much less tempted to cycle the extra 5 - 10 - 15min because of X Y Z. There are more worlds and routes, but it's a bit bogus, in reality, you're criss crossing a lot. The avatar is a bit clunky, when you're out of the saddle, for eg. The interaction of the avatar w other avatar (overlap, moving aside) is quite bad. The aerodynamics are totally useless because i bought the TT bike and the disc, and i'm not going any faster. This is disappointing, i enjoyed geeking out on zwift finding the best gear for a course.
But in the bigger scheme of things, I like it.
I ve also used training peaks virtual a couple of times, it's not bad, but i think mywhoosh has much more potential. mywhoosh is trying various things, for a few weeks they had a complex coin / credits system, and this is largely gone, afaik. Given where Zwift is and when they started, vs where mywhoosh is vs when they started, it doesnt reflect well on zwift.
It seems to me that zwift is focusing on getting more people on the game, with marketing, rather than improving the game in any meaningful way. That and being woke AF. Meanwhile mywhoosh is improving, and in graphics and structured training sessions alone, is streets ahead.
-
Loved going to Six Day Races back in the day-virtual cycling that would gamify that up to and including old school, super loud two stroke keirin pacing and bands playing in the oval would be awesome.
-
MyWhoosh taking up a huge heap of disk space and yet half of the routes are usually not available, at least temporarily. That annoys me the most. The gamification aspect is totally irrelevant for me. I'm all about structured workouts. Riding speed, elevation gain and the likes I don't care about.
Edit: What's the deal with the season pass? Is this some sort of precursor of MyWhoosh becoming subscription based as well?
-

Disk space in 2025... Sure, but that's a really cheap problem to address with a usb stick or another drive, or maybe it's time to upgrade your storage generally because GB are really, really cheap these days. I kind of had that issue myself, then realized i was making my life unnecessarily difficult, and just bought more space, really doesnt have to cost much at all.
How hungry the game is performance wise is a much more real consideration, i'd say, because you do need a competent machine for a good experience. No need to go overkill, but it can't be an old ass PC.
On gamification, i thought i didnt care, and found myself riding much more last year because of zwift, precisely because of the gamification. While on an indoor ride, pre-zwift, i'd feel like giving up way sooner. Given that we should all probably riding our bikes more, i want to give them credit for that.
The routes being unavailable is to concentrate users together so you're not riding alone for 20min on the flat, the routes available rotate pretty much every day.
The season pass thing, not sure, i do know they are trying weird things with all sorts of points and gimmicks, i guess they're trying things. Unlike Zwift, they are new in town, so you'd expect them to try stuff. Zwift has been the same largely mediocre game for many years now.
-

Forgive my ignorance: Sure, GBs are cheap and I got drives lying around. But how does an external storage help with that? I'm using the app on my MacBook and iPhone. As with many other devices in this day and age, upgrading the internal storage on those is no option.
-

You can run either move your disk speed insensitive files such as photos on the external storage to make room for the program on the internal storage, or just run programs from a USB stick or external SSD. It will be slower to boot but it works. 22GB isn't that much space. There are legit, genuine 64gb kodak microSDs for 2e on ali
(It's also fucking crazy how apple slipped through EU regulators with soldered RAM and storage)

Ah, you're on Apple... the plague of modernity. I make no comments on Apple stuff, it drives me insane, i had a tablet from them once, i got violent because of how insulting it was to my intelligence so many times that i gave it to my mom. She loves it. I can't.

You could run it from an external drive even on a mac.
Honestly though just TrainingPeaks virtual, the physics are SOOO much better. Racing can actaully be trusted and it runs great on a Mac or iPhone.
Haters gonna hate :P

Got a Kickr Core about a month ago. I'm currently trialing Zwift and about to give Rouvy a try, but with warmer months almost upon us I'll probably not use one of the paid services until next fall/winter. I'll likely be using MyWhoosh on weekdays and the odd rainy weekend days.
