Title: New bar installation - is something missing???
Post by: crazyravr on May 25, 2025, 05:39:03 PM
Or am missing something. See photos.
Installed seems to be good. No play in the fork and all feels stable but does not look right. As if there is supposed to be a cover or the bottom piece should go over that bottom cap?

You can't ride your bike like that. The compression ring is wrong, either you have put it on upside down or its the wrong size for your bearing. What bike is it ?

That is horribly wrong; please dont ride your bike like that. You will end up in the hospital. If you already rode the bike like that than check for cracks in the streerer tube.

No I did not ride the bike at all. This is a BMC Roadmachine. I installed this as per the information provided from the seller (see pics in the link).
I will try today again with removing the bottom piece and using the original top cap etc. Looking at the pics from others, this immediately looked wrong to my eyes.

Also try using the original BMC compression ring and see if that integrates with the Kocevlo top cap. If not try the BMC top cap and see if it sits flush with the spacers. Worse case, some people have resorted to using the original compression ring, top cap and spacers and simply replace the handlebar although I don't recommend this as it may not all fit cleanly together.

I decided to do just that as nothing else works. Not sure about the look but will give this a try for now. No idea how others have installed this bar and its working for them. Both of the bottom pieces that are supposed to go under the top cap simply do not fit at all.

I can think of 2 things :

The compression ring doesn't look like it's sitting in the top bearing properly. Does the BMC use a smaller top bearing ?

Second, and this is a much more common problem is you need to find a lower stack height compression ring.
