Title: Crank and Chain ring compatible with SRAM 1x12
Post by: gohloum on September 09, 2016, 07:46:56 PM
Someone mentioned in another thread I had going about using an XX1 or X01 upgrade and adding the BB, chainring, and crankset.  So I've been doing some looking and trying to come up with a cost effective approach to this.  However, with all the new tech, I am not sure what exactly I need to accomplish this for a BSA threaded frame.

For the crank, I found a Race Face unit:

I am assuming I need this chain ring:

And this for the BB:

Utilizing this upgrade kit:

Minus cables, this is all I would need, correct?

Total and converted to USD is just under $980.00, still might be too high, but seeing that I could get a configuration of 10-50 rear an a 36 front is very attractive.  Especially since 30% of my riding is done on the road.

Still might be a little rich for my blood, but at least it's under that 1K mark... Although shipping will likely put it just over to Florida.

Otherwise, it's looking like XT with 34 front and 11 - 46 rear on a 29er XC build.

Seems ok apart from the chainring, SRAM direct mount is different from RF cinch. You can get Eagle compatible chainring for RF (cinch) cranks from AbsoluteBlack or Woolftooth. Not sure about rings made by themselves. EDIT: RF claims their own rings are compatible too: http://www.raceface.com/products/details/dm-narrow-wide-cinch-single-ring

If you want to keep the cost down, go with all SRAM GX or X1 components.  Total drivetrain cost would be around $450 USD from US online retailers or eBay.

If you are considering spending $980,  a full XX1 11-spd group is going for $1,039 complete. For $59 more, it includes carbon XX1 cranks which IMO are much nicer than the forged AL Raceface cranks you posted, a very lightweight XX1 cassette, a very smooth shifting XX1 shifter, a GXP bottom bracket, and 11-spd chain.

You can use the absolute black rings, that work with many types of cranks.
They have circular, and oval(my preferred ones).
And they are compatible with the Eagle.

Sorry, in my previous post I misread your question that this is about the SRAM 1x12, not 1x11 drivetrain.  However, in my opinion, 1x11 is still the better value over 1x12 right now.
