Title: One more reason to buy a bike stand

Kid's science projects.  Even if you don't have kids, you can use this as a justification for buying one.

I use the stand of a friend for now.

I like straps with hooks that hang from the ceiling too.
I find straps somehow easier to go around the bike.
Everything is ready to hang, but I'm just too lazy to drill the ceiling in my new place.

But I agree straps are totally useless for science projects  :D

My first "stand" was like that- an old brake cable from my road bike, hung from the garage door opener with a loop covered by vinyl tubing on the other end to hang the bike by the saddle.  I let the front wheel rest on the floor, so it didn't swing too much.
