Hi Tom, what is the biggest tire you can fit in the rear? Is it really limited to 29x2.2?

Thank you!

Hi guys, new to this Forum, great stuff.

Looking to purchase an FM058 and wondering what kind of review you would give this bike.  According to the weight, it looks extremely lightweight.  How would you compare the weight to a Scalpel or otherwise?  Very nice build...I can't stop looking at the pictures, incredible build.

Copied from previous post: If anyone's interested, I've asked Hongfu about 19" FM-058: the price is 650USD and weight is in 1800±40g range. That is without rear shock. I believe Scott Spark frame is 1800 grams with shock.

Thank you. At 2.1kg with rear shock that is nice! I wait until Lunar New Year over before communicating with Peter or whomever has a 19 inch frame in stock. Give me time to decide on rear shock.

I've already commented on this post, but damn.. this thing is ridiculously sweet. I always loved those plastic mag wheels on bmx bikes back in the day.. and this build kinda scratches that itch. I seriously don't know if I would even take that thing off road.. just cruise around the park lol. Nice job, man. Makes me want to start a "build of the month" feature on the forum just so I could post pics of the bike for everyone to see!

I'll echo what jkcoda007 asked: what's the verdict on frame performance? I'm assuming you have a decent amount of experience with different frames. Would be interested to hear your take? Also, I'd be cool to hear what you think of the wheels as well. Thanks.

Great looking bike Tom!!

What is the shock size on the 058 frame? Is it 165 or 190?
I got a drawing for an XL from HF, it clearly reads 190, and they refer to that when asked.

At the same time they talk about "shock size: can be both 165*38mm and 190*44mm" on the HF website.
Obviously you can not choose between the two. (and I think 190 is 51 stroke, not 44, those are 184*44.)

With such a steep stem, do the levers, shifter touch the frame when turning the bar ? It looks no...
Not sure what you could do more to make it even more awesome  ;)

Merci Sitar_Ned,
Yeah those fancy bmx wheels also ring a bell over here ;) part of the magic...
Be my guest for your build of the month thread, I can help you with that, will be honored.
So far the frame is more efficient than my previous FS, mostly because of frame geometry & suspension setup (R414 shock). my attention points are linkage quality & rear triangle stiffness.

Great looking bike Tom!!

It is 165mm
When I ordered, back in summer 2017, the frame was available with both 165 & 190 configuration, so two different front triangle possible with identical geometry (they said...). Since then they did not sold a lot of 190 and I doubt they carried on producing them.
Anyway, Hongfu now replaced this frame with FM258 correcting the headtube & brake caliper problems.

Congratulations on not having a show bike and actually using it, I love it. The bike is definitely eye candy. Is that an Intend stem in these pictures?

So how do you like the KA engineering ovals? The Ti ones have me intrigued but I think I might have to order an aluminum one in the "mint" color for my wife's Tallboy 3.

Very nice!! I've been watching Intend's facebook and instragram posts for awhile now as I love the machining on their stuff.

Just your overall impression. I've been using an oval ring from Absolute Black for the past 2 seasons and I'm very happy with them. I may go for a Ti one once my AB one wears out. But I do like the looks of the mint KA one as my wife still has a round ring and it appears that it would be a good match for her bike. You haven't run into any issues then their stuff? I notice you have a few logo's of theirs on your bike so I'm assuming you are familiar with them.

I had a look at your other thread and, with the help of Google translate, worked out that the brake caliper issue you had was that magura brakes didn't fit very well.

What is the headtube problem that you refer to?

Are you happy of the XC11 TR tires, do you get a good grip in the mud ?
How would you compare them to Maxxis or Schwalbe tires, like Ikon or Rocket Ron/Racing Ralph ?

How is the frame holding up now that you've put some miles on it? Have the pivots or pivot bearings developed any play?
I'm seriously considering ordering an FM058, but want to be sure that the frame won't wear out after a few months, as is the case with my Ican S8.

I love those tires, efficient on dry soil, and better than Rocket Ron in muddy conditions. Well, ok... RORO ain't the best mud tires.
despite their lower knobs, the XC11 are better in the mud than my Ardents.
But do not get me wrong, these are not mud specific tires.

How is the frame holding up now that you've put some miles on it? Have the pivots or pivot bearings developed any play?
So far so good, I changed the pivot axles to titanium onces & had to secure them with appropriate torque after 200km, but since then, nothing to declare.

Wear out, what do you mean ?

Wear out, what do you mean ?

The "cups" around the pivot at the rear of the chainstay began to enlarge after about a month and cause the rear wheel to flex laterally under hard cornering and sprinting. I had to place a .5mm plastic spacer on each side to take up the space, but the frame is still wearing out and I'm sure I'll have to add another soon.
Fortunately, none of the other linkage pivots have this issue-- yet.

My frame is on the way!  I'll post up with a detailed report once it all comes through. Everything is waiting to get built up, targeting 20 pounds. The bike in this thread really inspired me to pull the trigger on this frame for my personal ride, although I was in touch with Pro-Mance before this frame was first produced.

I got the ultralight frame (T800), which took a while to manufacture, then made the mistake of ordering a complicated paint design, so I've been waiting 3 months now.

My frame is on the way!  I'll post up with a detailed report once it all comes through. Everything is waiting to get built up, targeting 20 pounds. This is also an FM058, or is it the FM258?

Front triangle looks 058, while the rear end looks 258.

...I got the ultralight frame (T800)...

Did they make the full frame in T800 on your request ?
What weight difference do you expect ?

Isn't a mix of T700 and T800 used on some rims and bikes, depending on where you want some more rigidity or more flex/strength ?

I ordered the 19" boost T800 M9007 frame from Pro-Mance on request (see http://www.pro-mance.com/product-390-16797-46557.html). Neither Hongfu or TanTan were willing to do an ultralight version, and Pro-Mance was both willing to special-order a T800 version and work out a much better price.

I'm expecting about 150g lighter, but I did have it painted so probably around 1850g for the frame.  I'm building with the goal of staying under 20 pounds, so this little bit might make that possible.

You can probably negotiate with Pro-Mance any day for in-stock T700 frames to match the quote Hongfu is giving on their "special" pricing with a 3-month wait. In retrospect, I would get an in-stock frame, as I was not happy waiting for three months without any bike. I had to sell my other bike to afford this one.

Looks like about the same geo as the 058 right? Definitely let us know when you get it!

Have you received your frame yet ? Trying to get a size 15.5 for my wife with the brake caliper mounted in the chainstay.

About to pull the trigger on the same frame with the Boost specs from pro-mance. I could only find pro-mance and Yishun making this in Boost with the brake mounted in the chainstay.

That surprises me.  I was under the impression that the rear end with the chain stay mounted brake was 142x12 only.  I thought they only had the boost spacing option on the seat stay mounted rear end.

If I were you, I'd be triple checking this.  E.g. get them to take a photo of the rear end before they send it.

I did triple check it, and got the cad drawings to backup. Even asked the seller 3 different ways.
The frame is the same as a brand frame out there and on their website it shows the brake mounted in the chainstay.

Nice.

It sounds like you know how to deal with those kind of vendors.

Yep and when they are unable to answer I walk away as many times there is a language barrier.  This is the 7th frame I build.
Also learn to lower my expectations :P

Wow! Did the derailleur hit something or the cage just failed by itself?

Why are you selling? Do you have another frame in mind that better suits your riding style (just curious).

I change it twice a year, so I use a low quality standard headset from hongfu.
